Click the link on the left for a QT vid of some footage of the Extended Edition.

More Battle of Pelinnor Fields. Mouth of Sauron (creepy guy!). Saruman shooting fire from his staff. The Witch King and his fire sword before he takes on Gandalf.

:headbang:

What did the five fingers say to the chest? CHOP! I'm RIC FLAIR BITCH!!!

Ok, I'm excited.

This is the first time I haven't seen a Lord of the Rings movie since its theatrical release - so I'm excited to picking this up and watching it again.

Too many good DVDs coming out from now til Christmas.

I'm thinking that down the line, the ultra-geek edition gets released and is basically all three movies' extended editions, along with PJ's three hours of unused footage, thrown onto like 8 discs.

I'd buy it.

I actually prefer TTT theatrical. Let's face it, no one gives a shit about Merry and Pippen dicking around with the trees and arguing over who is taller. The theatrical version cut out a lot of useless crap. There was maybe one awesome scene in the EE, namely Boromir/Faramir/Steward and that backstory.

ROTK will have all sorts of pertinent stuff added though. Hell, they dropped entire subplots like Faramir and Eowyn.

I have been waiting for the very special directors edition for years now so with all of the extra footage how long would the movie be 15 hours?

I read today on IMDB that Peter Jackson really didn't want to do the whole "Army of the Dead" because he felt it would look too unrealistic, but he did it anyways to appease the fans of the books. Now, I read that while watching TTT today and I have to ask: how is the Army of the Dead any more un-realistic than an army of Ents marching in Isengaurd?

Oh... about the super-geek edition with the extra 3 hours of footage or whatever...

I remember reading an interview where PJ basically said that there won't be another DVD release of the LotR trilogy until the next format is out and useable. And since the trilogy will be re-released then anyways, he wants to add some extra stuff to make it worthwhile for the loyal fans out there who already have the movies.

Serious question: does anybody ever really watch these Super Geek Edition versions of the trilogy? Or do they sit on your DVD shelf and get pointed out to envious (and truly ignorant) friends?

Yes. It is the theatrical versions I don't watch.

I'm probably one of the few people that only cares about the movie and not the extra features.

I haven't watched all of the special features myself, but these versions of the film are better than the cut versions released in theatres.

I actually just watched the Fellowship extended edition last week. And I have watched all of the special features at least once. I find the ones I like and I watch those of and on.

Really, I buy them for the movie, but the special features are icing.

I only own the Extended editions. I got Two Towers and Fellowship at Slackers for $25 each, and I've intentionally waited untill ROTK was almost out to get them so I could watch the entire trilogy together.

as an aside, I found an easter egg on TTT- Andy Sirkis accepting the award for Best Virtual Performance from the 2003 MTV movie awards. Man, I haven't laughed that hard in ages.

On the first disc, go to the scene selection and then highlight chapter 30. Press down to reveal a ring. Press enter to see Gollum's acceptance speech from the MTV movie awards.

Seeing how I have no friends, I haven't bought the EE's for their looks. I only watch the extended films...
