Giuseppe Zangara Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 I kinda like that Vampire Weekend album. It's not mind-blowing or anything, but it's pleasant enough and definitely less deserving of hate than a lot of other "blog-rock" (ughh) shit. I bet it's terrible.
justsoyouknow Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 That lineup looks much, much, much, much better than Coachella.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 M.I.A and MGMT seem somewhat out of place. Also lol @ Jakob Dylan.
Bruiser Chong Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 The Dillinger Escape Plan is about to perform on Conan. Odd.
justsoyouknow Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 M.I.A and MGMT seem somewhat out of place. Also lol @ Jakob Dylan. Very true. I didn't even know he was still making music, much less fitting in with scene kids.
UZI Suicide Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 What is deal with Jack Johnson? That guy is terrible and yet seems to be a main act everywhere he goes. I mean, headlining with Pearl Jam, Metallica and Kanye West? What fucking planet am I living on?
Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 I kinda like that Vampire Weekend album. It's not mind-blowing or anything, but it's pleasant enough and definitely less deserving of hate than a lot of other "blog-rock" (ughh) shit. I bet it's terrible. I don't think you would make it through the whole thing.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Frat-a-riffic headliners for Bonnaroo. Let's hear it for drunk bros pissing off of the roof of an RV.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 When Jack Johnson plays "Bubblytoes," I just want to kiss guys relentlessly.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 I'm aware it's been discussed fairly recently, but Bryan Ferry's 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' is fucking tits as well. Why aren't there more people here who realize this. Thanks to Slacker, I've heard an awful lot of Ferry's Dylan covers. On the whole, they're surprisingly great. I really like "A Hard Rain..." and "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" in particular. It's also kind of cool and weird that they pop up on a bunch of different albums--yeah, there's a ton compiled on Dylanesque, but I think I've seen at least two separate albums that had just one or two Dylan covers tacked on.
Mik Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 When Jack Johnson plays "Bubblytoes," I just want to kiss guys relentlessly. lol. That's one of probably only two Jack Johnson songs I actually like. The other being Flake. The next three CDs have not a single highlight. I just found out today that The New Pornographers and Okkervil River are playing here in April. Tickets are only $15. I'm pretty psyched.
King Kamala Posted February 7, 2008 Report Posted February 7, 2008 Jack Johnson's music is too boring for me to actively hate. Oddly enough, I kind of like some of the artists on his label (G. Love and Special Sauce, Rogue Wave).

Well, his early solo albums were largely covers, and yeah, Dylan's songs would occasionally pop up. I can't stress enough that These Foolish Things is worth anyone's time.
King Kamala Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Hey, speaking of Ferry, what would you guys recommend of Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry to me? I've always liked the little stuff I've heard from them and I've decided I want to pick some stuff of.
Mik Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Speaking of shows coming around here... besides New Pornographers/Okkervil River there is also a Super Furry Animals/Times New Viking show coming up. I'm probably gonna skip that one, though. I'm having a very hard time getting through the Times New Viking.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Hey, speaking of Ferry, what would you guys recommend of Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry to me? I've always liked the little stuff I've heard from them and I've decided I want to pick some stuff of. The aforementioned These Foolish Things is full of an awesome range of covers. I haven't ventured that deeply into the Ferry solo catalog beyond that and scattered songs. For Roxy Music, I love For Your Pleasure from the Eno albums (the self-titled album is very good too) and Country Life after Eno left. I believe Inc is an Avalon guy. It's tough to go wrong with any of those. Ferry had a really fantastic run through the early 70s.
Kinetic Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 The first Roxy Music album is flawless.
Red Baron Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 The Dillinger Escape Plan is about to perform on Conan. Odd. And a shitty performance too.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 The first Roxy Music album is flawless. You think so? While I'll agree that the run of "Re-Make/Re-model" to "2HB" is almost perfect, the second half of the album bores me to tears. Well, "Bitters End" is nice enough, but not so much as to make up for soporific four songs that precede it. Arbitrary Roxy Music Ranking 1. Avalon 2. Siren 3. Country Life 4. For Your Pleasure 5. Stranded 6. s/t 7. Manifesto 8. Flesh + Blood Had the s/t just been an ep of the first five songs, it'd have been at least #2 or maybe even #1.
Kinetic Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 I can't remember the last time I listened to it, honestly. "Flawless" might have been a little hyperbolic, but it's a very good album.
Kristianna Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 That song "Ladies and Gentlemen" by Saliva really fucking sucks.
C Dubya 04 Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Well, it is Saliva. What's the word on MGMT? My friend has been pimping them as I think her cousin is somehow involved, but I just can't get into them at all.
snuffbox Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 I saw them on the Bonnaroo lineup but I don't know anything about them. I hope that helped!
Ravenbomb Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Built to Spill is doing a show with the Meat Puppets as the opening act. I won't be going or anything, but that's an odd lineup.
Smartly Pretty Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Meat Puppets II is one of my favorite cd's.
Mik Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Well, it is Saliva. What's the word on MGMT? My friend has been pimping them as I think her cousin is somehow involved, but I just can't get into them at all. Eh - I like a few of the songs on Oracular Spectacular. It's a bit weird at times but I enjoy it.
Smartly Pretty Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 http://www.tullycraftnation.com/mp3s/juliana.mp3 Is this band for fuckin' real?
Mik Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Yeah - so the Grammy Awards are on. So far, the only highlites were Kanye's performance of Hey Mama and Alicia Keys performance. I don't really listen to her music but I always enjoy it when I hear it. I'd have quit watching already but I'm wondering how Amy Winehouse's fresh out of rehab performance later tonight (via satellite) is going to turn out.
Kinetic Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 My ill-advised attempt to enjoy Badfinger has come to a predictable ending. This band sucks!
