Best Singles of 2004

Recommended Posts

'First of the Gang To Die' is utterly awesome, really. I accept he'll always be a love or hate artist, but that's a great pop song and one of the defining moments of his solo catalogue. Unashamedly, I much enjoyed 'Some Girls' by Rachel Stevens. And fuck it, I loved 'Laura' and 'Take your Mama' too.

You know it was a weak year in radio-play hip-hop when "Lean Back" is the best case you can make for a summer jam. Woof.

Meh, I liked the remix better anyway.

Also, "Roses" wasn't exactly a good single. It was probably the worst one Outkast had ever offered up,

No, that would be Ms. Jackson.

"Never Gonna Change"

Drive By Truckers

Not their best song, but download "Lookout Mountain" or "Marry Me" if you want to hear the best southern rock band since vintage skynyrd.

Here's my picks (hey, at least I didn't start the thread)

Britanny Spears, "Toxic" I can't stand her, but damnit, I love this song

Kanye West "Jesus Walks" Finally, a song about Jesus that doesn't suck

Ministry "No W" Proof that Al Jourgensen still has it

R.Kelly "You Saved Me" Just because it's so bad, it's hilarious

Dirty Vegas "Walk into the Sun" I don't like the band, but this song was pretty cool IMO

And even though they weren't singles, their from TV shows, so what the hell

Little Brittle and the C-Bag(MC Chris) "Please Come Visit Me Dawg" from Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Hesh (MC Chris) "Wedding Rap" from Sealab 2021

Foxxy Love "Labia Baby" from Drawn Together

Our British users will no doubt tsk at this, but I thought McFly, for a boyband, made a decent effort this year ...

There alot better than Busted IMO.

The lack of respect for Busted in this thread is at best foolish, at worst near blasphemy.

Thunderbirds Are Go. ;)

The Killers- "All These Things That I've Done"

Eric Prydz- "Call On Me" (if only for the video)

U2- "Vertigo"

I saw Busted live the other week (free tickets) and they honestly rocked more than any other band Ive seen this year.

But on singles - The Sound of Settling - Death Cab for Cutie. Best use of "Ba-ba" ever.

And Call On Me is easily the best pop single of the year.

Busted - Thunderbirds Are Go

Biffy Clyro - Glitter and Trauma

Muse - Sing For Absolution

Morrissey - The First Of The Gang To Die

Manic Street Preachers - The Love Of Richard Nixon

Placebo - Twenty Years

And yes, Busted are pretty fucking brilliant when it comes to their live show.

Still nothing for Gwen Stefani....disgusting.

I really really like the opening vocal line of the verse and the rest of the song is ok. She's always been best at techno. Preferred No Doubt's pop stuff to the ska stuff. Whilst on the subject, was 'It's My Life' released this year? I know it's a cover, but that's another fave of mine.

And I kinda liked 'Walk Idiot Walk' just cos it reminds me of the metropolis zone theme from sonic the hedgehog 2.

It was. Good song. And her second single of that album is weird, and is basically built around "If I Were A Rich Man" from Fiddler on the Roof. I kinda like it.

But I will consider 2004 to be the year of Quarashi, as this was the year I became a fan of their music and that was my most listened to group this year. This was also the year I became a Beastie Boys fan after years of liking their singles. I now have all of their albums and I love them all.

HungryJack where in Canada? Hip hop is played constantly in the GTA.

Lately, I haven't been able to get HEAAADSPRUNG out of my head. I will probably be sick of it by next week, but for now, it's all good.

Jesus Walks by Kanye is probably it for me though, when all is said and done.
