Guest M. Harry Smilac Report post Posted December 17, 2004 Kevin James is great for stand-up but i've never cared for King of Queens. Futurama > Family Guy-Omg their chins look like a ballsack HAHAHAW! The social commentary of it get's old,one of the reasons I can't stand South Park anymore. Will Ferrell-He's like a 3rd rate Chevy Chase without any of the wit or delivery. Chris Rock-His schtick is outdated and everytime I hear his voice now I just about want to stab my eardrums it's so annoying. I've seen like one funny thing on his HBO show ever and that was when he was banging on the doors of the Jahovah's(Sp?) witnesses office saying "I know your in there" Reno 911-Half of it is comedic gold and the other half is just painfully unfunny. Crank Yankers-How is this show still even on the air my nizzles? Bernie Mac-Great delivery but usually of sub-par generic material. Jim Carrey-Liked him on In Living Color, then Ace Ventura and I can watch it's sequel if it comes on cable but I cannot stand Cable Guy, Me,Myself & Irene or any of the other cheesedick movies he's done. The Truman Show was also awful. The wayan's bros.-How the hell are these unfunny douchebags still getting work?Much less backing for dreck like White Chicks and the Scarey Movie shit. I can watch bits & pieces of Don't be a Menace when it comes on cable but otherwise their terrible.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2004 Most of the web comics friends never shut up about while wearing t-shirts from the comics website. I'm a nerd, they're all nerds, but maybe I'm not nerd enough to understand why everyday on penny-arcade is the funniest thing ever (I admit the odd time I've checked it out there has been something really funny, but usually I'm left scratching my head). Same goes for Something Positive, Sexy Losers, and so on.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2004 Viva La Bam...while I could appreciate Jackass, this show is entirely staged. Takes so much away from what could be funny.
Tawren 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2004 I also can't stand either Shrek movie. Anyone that laughed during those movies should be shot.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2004 On Whose Line: UK had Tony Slattery, US didn't, therefore, UK wins. Plus Clive Anderson was funnier at doing arbitrary point awarding than Drew Carey.

Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2004 I don't get the total Seinfeld dislike, but then again I'm not bombarded with all the sitcoms down here so I can still get into them. It might be more of a not liking the "self-hating, self-absorbed" "New York Style" humor where every single minute aspect of regular life can be dissected to the point of insanity NBC did nearly turn it down because it was "Too New York" I guess in a way saying that people tune to TV for "escapism" and not want to see 30 minutes of how bizzare the "little things" can become, even if it has a "realistic" approach to it Steve
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2004 Mike Myers performance in the "Cat in the Hat" I wanted to punch him in the fucking face. I'll go further, and say Myers is overrated. His characters get stale fast, and outside out Austin Powers, and I guess Shrek. I don't find him funny when he's just Meyers.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2004 People who like Seinfeld, Jay Leno, Howard Stern and laugh track sitcoms deserve a fucking kick in the temple. Those shows repeat themselves so much it feels like you're trapped in a vortex of suck. Ah, I can trust the O&A fan to bring up Stern. You're comletely right, of course - Stern has been unlistenable for a LONG time now. He's done absolutely nothing of consequence in the world of radio OR comedy in YEARS. I would have to side with the Futurama haters. I've seen pretty much every episode produced, and just do NOT like the program at all. Hell, I'd take current-day Simpsons episodes ANY DAY over any Futurama episode. .....well, except for that one, about the "Death by Snoo Snoo." That one did make me chuckle. About Will Ferrell - I have to disagree on that one. I'm a Ferrell mark, so putting him in a movie instantly increases the chances of me seeing the flick. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2004 I like Futurama, but I can't say I laugh much at it. It's hard to explain. I hate almost all sitcoms, but Married..With Children makes me bust a gut all the time. Usually it's a combinations of the scathing insults plus the over the top slapstick. Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2004 After listening to a commercial on the radio just now, I was reminded that, despite probably being in their target audience, I do not really find the "Blue Collar" comedians that funny, especially Jeff Foxworthy
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2004 I can't stand Married with Children. Al Bundy has is moments, but besides that the rest of characters are extremly annoying and not funny.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted December 18, 2004 Kevin Smith films. Not my type of humor in the first place, but just embarassingly bad here. Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back was one of the few times in life when I felt like self inflicted gun shot wounds were a positive thing.

Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted December 18, 2004 I think it's pretty obvious that you would hate that movie unless you liked his previous ones. Hell, I'd consider myself a fan of his work and I can't stand it (or Mallrats, really - though it's far superior to JSBSB). "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" would have to top my list. Not just for the show itself (which I've caught clips of here and there...uninspired and/or very obvious), but for the hideous ways it and its fans have raped b-cinema. It's really strange, because "calling out" a movie with a group of friends is fun (particularly when intoxicated), yet watching a carefully analyzed, scripted, allegedly "clever" version of it, or a stranger "calling out", is not. I feel bad because a lot of my friends/colleagues in the b-community cream their pants at its very mention, but one of these days I'm going to lose it and go on ranting for pages. When genuine cinematic classics like Carnival of Souls and Night of the Living Dead are "blessed" with commentary tracks from Joel, or a bunch of snide assholes can't stop making cracks at Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! or Gojira it's fucking war. In a similar vein...the Rocky Horror performances in my area are fairly abysmal. A damned shame, because from what I've seen the film itself is interesting in its own right, and with less vulgar* call-lines and/or props, it'd be a damned good time. Quirky, hip, pop-culture-based animation is a huge mixed bag for me. I'm a huge fan of "Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law", "The Critic", and "Space Ghost Coast 2 Coast", am indifferent to "Sealab 2021" and "The Tick", and hate "Aqua Team Hunger Force", "Spongebob", and most others in this vein. I was wrangled into an episode of Comedy Central's "Drawn Together" and it's one of, if not the worst shows I've ever seen. I never really found "Jackass" or any of its descendents funny either...though I've been drawn in on occasion by the same "freak show" mentality that makes talk shows, late night TV, and internet links like this. Jack Black? Sorry, although School of Rock was OK. Mike Myers? Chris Farley? Other popular vulgar comedies? Can't say most of them really work for me either (here is where my liberalism works against me...as comedy, vulgar in particular, relies on the hatred/unacceptance of Otherness...e.g. if I find nothing wrong with transsexualism, I won't find much funny about "guy finds out hot chick is really a dude" setups or even characters like Shrek 2's Ugly Stepsister). The thing with comedy is, despite the social construction, and widespread acceptance of certain bits/situations as "funny", it's entirely personal. Much like each person has their own fears, hopes, etc., each person has their own unique sense of humor. Personally, I prefer the works of comedians like Steven Wright, or writers/directors like Jim Jarmusch - everyday ironies and "plausible" surrealism (an oxymoron if I ever heard it...have no fear Bunuel fans, I enjoy what "true" surrealism I've seen, just hasn't been enough for me to really speak on it). If you like "Aqua Teen"...more power to you. I'll be annoyed with you talking about how hilarious it is all the time (I think this is what bothers me...not the shows themselves, but their fucking hypes), but it doesn't keep me up at night either. * when I say vulgar, I don't mean crude, or even unnecessarily crude, but unfunny crudeness for its own sake (e.g. dick and fart jokes, loud/boisterous individuals, etc.)
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2004 The whole world seems to be gushing over Arrested Development, but I just can't get into it. I tried watching it once for a bit and there was seemingly more annoying inner monolgue than dialogue which got on my nerves fast. But hey, I never got what the fuss over CYE was either but once I decided to watch a full episode I loved it.

Star Ocean 3 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2004 Conan is funny pretty often, but most of his act is doing the same stuff over and over. Dance around during the monologue, be amazed when Max doesn't talk, etc. The worst part of the show is the hideous writing. The skits are awful.

Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2004 Futurama > Family Guy-Omg their chins look like a ballsack HAHAHAW! The social commentary of it get's old,one of the reasons I can't stand South Park anymore. That joke has never once been made in Family Guy. And the "political commentary" is about 1000th of that in South Park. Not to mention the only funny part of Futurama is Dr. Zoidberg. For any UK readers of this thread - Peter Kaye? What the hell? godthedog 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2004 What about when you're watching a great dramatic scene that was written to be funny but you find really powerful and gripping, but everyone else laughs instead? Happened a few times in Punch-Drunk Love. I wanted to slap the laughing people. the goal was for it to be both, so either reaction is acceptable. i find myself laughing during emotional scenes in movies a lot, just to let the tension out. count me in with the 'chappelle's show' people. lots of the sketches are good ideas, but they just refuse to end long after the joke runs its course. the blind black racist was a perfect example of this. started out great, but they just milked that teat till it was dry, sore and bleeding. Kill! or Gojira it's fucking war. Mike's the one who did the commentary tracks, and it had nothing to do with MST3K at all--it was years since the last of the shows even aired. But hey, reach if you want. There are some overused riffs, but overall, you're greatly exaggerating. which I've caught clips of here and there Uh-huh. Sounds like firm enough grounds to form an opinion about a show that ran 10 seasons (okay, 9 and some change).
Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2004 Late Night with David Letterman- Because I have west coast bias and plus his show has not changed since he left NBC, I don't like him. (Come "Does it float?" is so stupid.) Mike Myers, Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Dave Chapelle, and Jerry Seinfeld aren't funny. My parents love Seinfeld. Any show feature on MTV featuring 20's/30's year olds acting like teenagers. "Hey look at me light my tongue on fire". The Simpsons for the last 3 or 4 seasons. In the beginning, the show use to have some drama and some comedy. Now it's all stupid. I like Family Guy, Futurama, and South Park.
