Foley's first and Sex, Lies, & Headlocks are the best of the four. Foley's has more personality but Sex, Lies, & Headlocks is just full of interesting stories. There are some obvious inaccuracies in Sex, Lies though. Nothing over the top, just little stuff like saying this guy fought this guy at this event when they didn't. Piper's book is also good but I'm not sure how accurate it is. Piper loves his kayfabe. I've read a good bit of Gary Michael Cappetta's book as well. He autographed it for me back in August. Good stuff. Mostly 70s WWWF thus far. Talks about having Monsoon as his boss, Vince never liking him, being scared of George Steele during the ring intros, etc. The new road stories book looks interesting. Guest BrokenWings Report post Posted January 8, 2005 The first two Foley books are far and away the best wrestling related books I've read, and the fact they were personally written by Mick and not by a ghostwriter make it even better. Must-buy's as a Foley fan, at least, if not simply wrestling in general. The Rock's is written half in kayfabe basically, and while decent, I'd recommend skipping this one. I'm only about a quarter of the way through the Ric Flair book, but so far it's been entertaining. The only complaint I have about the book so far is that I wished he had gone more in depth with his childhood and some of his stories growing up like Foley had. Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 Piper's book would've been great had he not wrote off the last six years of his career. It ends terribly. Death of WCW is tremendous. Flair's book rocks. Foley's books are great. Avoid Hogan's book. Full of his usual revisionist history. As for Lawler, Lita, Hardys, etc., it really depends on a couple factors. a) Reading capacity - I'm a fast reader, so a mediocre wrestling book isn't so bad since I get it done in less than two days typically. b) What you read for - Some people read to indulge in the grand scheme of things, others read for bits and pieces of great info. The aforementioned books would only be interesting if you like bits and pieces of info. c) Price - If you really desire to read them, borrow them from the library or buy them off Half.com. Its True, Its True: almost worthless for pro wrestling fans, since Angle barely talks about his short WWF career at all. Good for info on amateur wrestling though. The Rock Says: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports-Entertainment: pure unmitigated crap. If it weren't for Chyna's, this would easily be the worst wrestling bio ever. Hollywood Hulk Hogan: not too bad, a couple funny stories, but you have to read between the lines of all the blatant lies that Hogan spews out at times. The Stone Cold Truth: a good read, but too damn short, I wish he'd gone into much more detail. Chair Shots and Other Obstacles: Winning Life's Wrestling Matches (Bobby Heenan): this is Bobby's second book, and he tells a bunch more stories that he didn't get to in his first one, but it's more of a self-help inspirational type book than a wrestling bio. Ric Flair: To Be The Man: excellent book in every way, except for all the controversies over Flair's opinions of people like Bret Hart, Mick Foley, etc. Sex, Lies, and Headlocks: overrated. If you've ever read a dirtsheet, you probably know most of the info in this book. Nothing in it was anything I hadn't heard before. The Death of WCW: wonderful book, Scott Keith should read it and learn how to actually write one of these. Adam Copeland on Edge: the saddest attempt to rip off Mick Foley I've ever seen, right down to the Al Snow jokes. But he did write it by himself and tells a few decent stories, so points for effort. In the Pit with Piper: Roddy Gets Rowdy: kinda like Hogan's book; some of it is interesting, but you do wonder how much of it is true. Too short, too. The Hardy Boyz : Exist 2 Inspire - Very good. Lita : A Less Traveled R.O.A.D.--The Reality of Amy Dumas - Very good. Chair Shots and Other Obstacles - The first Heenan book is fun, disposable far. Haven't read the second. Ric Flair: To Be The Man - Very, very good. He takes a dig at Sammartino which I can't endore though. Sex, Lies, and Headlocks - Pretty OK. The Death of WCW - Feh. Wanted to like it. It has a few intersting spots but has a you've-read-all-this-before-on-the-internet feal. Adam Copeland on Edge - not yet. "Tietam Brown" was cool I'd pick that up to. Flairs book is one big piece of fucking shit and speaks volumes about what a washed up egomaniac he really is. Case in point-near the end of this pile he wastes about ten pages telling you how wonderful his wife and his stuck up brats are. Oh and the real reason David left Puerto Rico is because he woke up one night and Victor Quinos was jerking off over his face, not shitty accomadations they put him up in a beautiful beach house. That's just an awesome read - so bitter, so jaded, so wildly misinformed and insanely bitchy. I've got it as a Word manuscript somewhere on my computer. Just for the sake of additional info, Ted DiBiase's book is a decent enough read, but it's heavily steeped in Jesus and isn't really worth picking up unless you're a huge DiBiase mark. Ken Shamrock's book was okay, and gave some nice insight into his adventures in Jaan, MMA, and his early days as a pro wrestler with Dean Malenko, but again probably isn't worth going out of your way for. The other half is an extended screed against the PTC, which while somewhat well thought out, is way too forgiving of the WWE, and just a shill for Vince. Hey, guess what, Mick? Everyone who bought the book probably already liked wrestling. I think it's just because it was far too soon to write another book. Not enough new material. And sure enough, there's a whole chapter dedicated to Big Show's adventures in foreign bathrooms. Other than that, it's your average road stories; some cute, some hilarious and some blah.
