tbondrage99 Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Ok we all know that WCW pretty much had no idea on how to make good entrence music aside from lucking out on the nWo theme. My question is what WCW theme music was ripped off from what songs I already know a few. Diamond Dallas Page - Nirvanas, Smells like teen spirit (Th most obvious of them all) Chris Jericho - Pearl Jams, Even Flow Shane Douglas - Deep Purples, Perfect Strangers Raven - Nirvanas, Come As You Are Perry Saturn - Marylin Mansons, The Beautiful People I know there are alot more and some are slipping from my mind at the moment, so I come to you, what are they?
Open the Muggy Gate Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I know Rick Steiner used one lame ripoff of "Welcome to the Jungle".
Epic Reine Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Jeff Jarrett used a shitty rip-off of Kid Rock's "Cowboy" during his last stint in WCW.
ChrisMWaters Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Well, it's not really a rip-off...but I remember Sting in the final days of WCW using Seek and Destroy for some reason. Which is a shame, cause I liked the dark, moody Sting theme that he used at first in the Crow Sting era.
ChrisMWaters Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Ok we all know that WCW pretty much had no idea on how to make good entrence music aside from lucking out on the nWo theme. What about Goldberg's theme? Or is that another example of WCW using stock music?

What about Goldberg's theme? Or is that another example of WCW using stock music? Well The nWo music is the one that comes to my mind the quickest, the rest I have to think about for a few minutes.

Ah, OK. For the record, here's a couple of themes WCW used that I liked that didn't seem like rip offs to me. - nWo Theme, as you mentioned - Goldberg's theme - Wolfpack Theme (hey, I liked bouncing to it) - Rey Misterio's first WCW theme (I remember humming that in a Summer Camp) - Sting's first Crow theme. - "Man They Call Sting" And even though it sorta is a rip off... - American Made.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I don't know if my memory is right here, but I think I remember someone saying that the nWo theme was heard on a porno one time.
ChrisMWaters Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I don't know if my memory is right here, but I think I remember someone saying that the nWo theme was heard on a porno one time. The way the nWo theme sounds, I would NOT be surprised one bit.
Lil' Bitch Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Rey Mysterio's "March of Death" is used in the Austin / Angle SummerSlam build-up video.
Golgo 13 Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Raven's theme also contained a bit from Lynyrd Skynyrd's "That Smell" and one of the Filthy Animals' themes was a rip off of Q-Tip's "Vivrant Thing".
Boner Kawanger Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I don't know if my memory is right here, but I think I remember someone saying that the nWo theme was heard on a porno one time. The way the nWo theme sounds, I would NOT be surprised one bit. "Cue the porno music!" -Scott Hall Benoit's first theme song was from a porno, too.

Maybe not Steinerized... but most of it. And that Benoit song, is that the one called "Replica"?
Cran Da Maniac Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Hugh Morrus/First Family: Bruce Dickinson's "The Zoo"
Nighthawk Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Elix Skipper used a "Party Up" rip off. Somebody was using a Ricky Martin rip off around then as well, though I can't remember who or what song.
MillenniumMan831 Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Hugh Morrus/First Family: Bruce Dickinson's "The Zoo" Not to be a prick, but "The Zoo" was originally done by The Scorpions. The rule of thumb is that if it's not ripped off a song or a cheesy wrestler-specific song itself, it's probably stock. As for the ripoff themes, I actually felt they had a certain charm to them. And to add on: Mamalukes - Godfather Movie Theme MIA - War, What is it Good For? Mike Awesome - Alt version of Beautiful People Saturn's late 1998-early 1999 theme - You Got Another Thing Coming TAFKATAFKAPI - Purple Rain As for the Ricky Martin ripoff, that was Kid Romeo.
BUTT Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I remember VK Wallstreet using a "Love in an Elevator" ripoff. Also, Jim Powers' theme always seemed like a ripoff of Aerosmith's "Make It", but that song isn't very well-known so I'm not sure. Plus, in the last days of WCW, Kanyon used a rip-off of Bush's "Comedown".
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Kid Romeo used "Here We Go...Kid Romeo!" A rip-off of Ricky Martin's "The Cup of Life". "Here we go...Ole Ole Ole!" "Here We Go...Kid Romeo!"
Guest sek69 Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I'm pretty sure Sting's theme when he was still Surfer Sting (before the "Man Called Sting" one) was a rip of "All Fired Up" by Van Halen.
reign Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I've heard the generic WCW music on more than a few TV commercials and some porn too...they used to rehash so much of it though it's hard to tell...I always thought the Hollywood Blondes music was the best original theme they ever came up with...
Guest sek69 Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I don't think the Blond's music was original, I'm almost 100% sure I've heard it in commercials. Almost every theme in WCW was public domain around that time.
Guest The Decadent Slacker Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Gotta mention Hogan's faux "Real American" somewhere in here, too.
Special K Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 nWo theme had a few Hendrix licks in it too. The most obvious one from Highway Child. There was another one I had definitely picked out as a Hendrix lick, but now I can't remember it.
1234-5678 Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Jericho's Pearl Jam ripoff was fucking clutch. I'm going to go download it now. Raven's "Come As You Are" ripoff was also one of the better ones. Also, for decent "original" music, WCW did a nice job with Harlem Heat's.
Nighthawk Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Now that you mention it, I don't think HH's was at least completely original. It had what you might call samples. And I swear I heard it in a car commercial once.
Precious Roy Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 What about Goldberg's theme? Or is that another example of WCW using stock music? Definitely stock. I've seen it used on the history channel a bunch of times, the first time was back when Goldberg was first getting pushed. Turner had, and still has, a huge stock library of audio. Mysterio's first theme and Dean Malenko's first theme also pop up on THC from time to time.
Black Lushus Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I have heard someone rapping to Benoit's theme...anyone know who that was? i thought it was the Beastie Boys but I could be wrong...
Special K Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Psychosis' music was pretty cool (I think they used it for Mysterio at some point as well?) But it could have well been stock music. It was just a beat caused by many strings playing at once.
deancoles Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Barry Windham's theme during 91/92 sounded a lot like "La Grange" by ZZ Top.
