The Ill One Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 That seriously was one of the best fights in a long, long time. Exactly what the UFC needed for its' cable television live debut.
CanadianChick Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Oh man, what an intro into UFC for a viewer. I MUST tape this tommorrow.
razazteca Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 ECHO! This is the best thing that can happen to MMA in USA. Maybe now there will be a second season and hopefully fights on a regular basis on tv from other companies. I want to see PRIDE FC and KOTC on ESPN or FSN!
The Ill One Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I'm sure as hell taping it. Franklin and Shamrock's match is going to look like child's play unless they pull off another amazing bout.
Lei Tong Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Oh man, what an intro into UFC for a viewer. I MUST tape this tommorrow. "Welcome to party, pal!" I would easily say that is one of the most gratifying moments in MMA history.
RavishingRickRudo Posted April 10, 2005 Author Report Posted April 10, 2005 That was everything it needed to be and then some. Bonnar getting a contract too was the PERFECT ending, and those two guys' post-fight promos were fantastic. I love em both.
AboveAverage484 Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Is it just me or is anybody else looking forward to Diego losing? IMO, he'd get owned by Jeremy Horn, Anderson Silva, and company.
Lei Tong Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Man, how lucky was it that the fight of night was put on by the two funniest guys in the house as well?
JoeDirt Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Are you guys surprised there wasn't more takedowns/submissions/wrestling in that match?
AboveAverage484 Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Zen Master? WTF, Mario Sperry's not gonna be happy,
razazteca Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I say fight stoppage due to Shamrock fragile fist or early KO.
Styles Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I'll say Franklin catches Shamrock with an armbar or something for a sumbission.
the pinjockey Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 HOLY SHIT! That was the greatest fight ever. I want to see Lidell/Griffin right now swinging for the fences motherfuckers! I'm still jumping around the god damn house. Poor Franklin and Shamrock having to follow that.
The Ill One Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Was anybody expecting it to be a tenth of that great of a fight?
KingPK Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Wow....holy shit. I haven't watched UFC in a good long while, but FUCK was that an entertaining 15 minutes. I was actually pulling for a 4th round, but both guys deserved a contract. And Forrest is a funny son of a bitch. I could dig some more of this on Spike. Would probably pop a higher rating than Velocity does, anyway. The Shamrock/Franklin fight is like Hunter and Jericho following Hogan/Rock at X-8. No way they can get the crowd that keyed up again.
RavishingRickRudo Posted April 10, 2005 Author Report Posted April 10, 2005 I was expecting it to be good, I wasn't expecting it to drain the energy of me and be that fucking exciting.
The Ill One Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I knew it'd be a good fight but Jesus Christ. I'm still freaking out for that.
JHawk Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 What an amazing fucking fight! That blew away just about anything UFC has ever done! That just blew away everything I've seen in boxing or wresting in years as well! Absolutely fucking amazing! Put the rematch on PPV and I'm fucking there!
the pinjockey Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Can they please hurry up and get past this Franklin/Shamrock match so I can rewind and watch that fight again?
The Ill One Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I hope they'll stop playing that Kimo knock-out clip. It was a decent string followed by a well timed knee. No epic.
Conspiracy_Victim Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I didn't even post because I was just staring at the fight. I was playing Rome: Total War during the fluff and having my DVR record anything I might have missed. I almost missed the beginning bcause I thought there'd be a feeling out process to start. Instead, they started at the bell and just NEVER stopped. 15 minutes of brawling. Outside of a few kicks it looked like 2 guys fighting in a parking lot. Punches, knees, takedown, everything. Dana White should thank his lucky stars these two made it to the finals. Plus you had the added bonus of them being able to talk a good game too. "I can pawn this for a LOT!" "Damn I'm ugly!" "I've even been cutting down on the sex. I'm hungry now..." "I went home and got really really drunk a few times." "I don't have medical insurance and I get beat up for a living." Just a few of the classics.
KingPK Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 What I especially like is both guys did exactly what they said they would do: Beat the fuck out of each other until one drops. They've probably won the UFC at least a few more buys for their PPV next week (not me though, since my cable took out PPV to force everyone to switch to digital). EDIT: Wow, Shamrock's 41?
the pinjockey Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 This crowd is going to turn quick if they don't come out swinging.
Lei Tong Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Who did Franklin lose to? KO loss to Ryota "LYOTO" Machida.
