Comedians are not funny

Recommended Posts

While not terribly funny, Opie & Antony are funnier than Howard Stern has been in 10 years, maybe longer.

And, I disagree, that comedians are not funny. Most aren't, but some are. Jim Norton makes me laugh, for example.

And Robin Williams hasn't been funny since he quit cocaine.

There are funny comedians out there, sure. Denis Leary was hilarious before he sold out; George Carlin made me laugh uproariously until he got too angry and political. Steven Weber is great if you like that sort of thing. Dane Cook couldn't pass an onstage drug test if his life depended on it, but his act profits from that.

The only comedian I've ever enjoyed in a stand up act was Robin Williams.

That is disgusting. I pray that you're referring to the pre-sobriety stuff.

I also disagree with NM's original statement.

Oh yeah, and can't forget The Original Kangs of Comedy too. Who would've thought that Steve fucking Harvey (whose variety show is SO bad that I literally can't watch it) would prove to be so goddamn funny once he was allowed to do his own thing?

I thought Robin Williams on Broadway was a great stand-up show. The guys on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour are damn good as well.

No, Ron White is funny and Larry is okay at times. The other two do regenerated crappy material.

It's not that comedians are not funny, it's just that comedy is so open what one person thinks is funny another person views as dumb.

Oh, and I disagree with NM's first post. I think that spontaneous situations can play a key part, but sometimes comedic gold can be pre-planned...

Eddie Murphy, to this day, still makes me laugh when I watch Raw or ...that other special that i seem not to be able to spell right now so I give up.

Richard Pryor is da man. Forever. Even sick richard still gets in a one liner that makes me laugh when they ask him a question.

Cedric the Entertainer...hell all of the Kangs of Comedy will make me giggle.

Agreed. I hate when people just out and out tell you "this person isn't funny." I find a lot of things funny that many others don't, and vice versa.

Spontaneous comedy will always get a laugh out of me, though. I'd also kill for more live comedy shows down here, since the one's we've had have been awesome.

the only way stand up comedy really works fo rmeis if they're talking about stuff I can relate to or have experienced...Blue Collar Comedy Tour, to me is not funny at all, period, yet tons of people find it hilarious...Kings Of Comedy still has me rolling after several views...now George Carlin, I always laugh watching his shows regardless of what he's talking about...

I like Nick DiPaolo, his comedy seems from the heart and rough around the edges, yes. He looks like an average joe and sometimes Dane Cook is funny but he completely sucks in movies. I love Carlin's delivery even if what he talks about is harmless sometimes. Basically I like comedians who talk about things that I assumed only I think about. There are tons of rehashed comedians and material floating around these days so I see how it could get useless.

Opie & Anthony are Horrible.

Agree. But then, it's a well-known rule of physics that All Morning DJs Suck.

Is Mancow a "DJ"? If he is, he doesn't suck.

Mancow is an obnoxious asshole; much like every other Howard Stern imitating DJ.

Jim Norton is also equally unfunny. Just because you decide to take vulgarity overboard doesn't mean you know the slightest bit about humour. Yeah, I used the queen's english.

I don't say someone is unfunny, I just say they've never made me laugh.

Like Whoopi Goldberg. I know some people find her funny, just not me.

"Oh look, a water bottle! I'll use it as a prop to simulate my penis ejaculating! Ho ho!" Only the coke-era stuff of his was funny.

NM, who do you like? Just curious.

I don't think anybody here likes Leno. Or at least I hope not.

The manic delivery and improvisational tone of Robin Williams' Broadway show made it hillarious. Though I fail to see how me liking Robin Williams has any correlation to my hatred of Jim Norton and other people of his ilk.

I don't like comedians, hasn't this already been stated.

Actually, I take that back, I liked Robert Schimmel; mainly due to his delivery. It's all about the delivery.

Improvisational? Half his shit is stolen from other comics.

To say Norton can only do vulgar stuff is ignorant. If you listened to his stand-up, you'd see he is actually really intelligent.

I agree with you about Schimmel. He is great.

Cedric is awesome, but I was disappointed by the Kings of Comedy, I thought it'd be a lot better from what I'd heard.

Dave Attell is my favorite comedian of the moment, with Carlin in rehab. Not sure if anyone's heard of him, but Pablo Francisco's pretty funny too. He also has a laughably Hispanic name. I mean seriously what the fuck, PABLO?

I did two standup shows. One went really well as I got some good laughs and managed to shock the audience.

The other did not go so well as I had no voice and was on 2 hrs sleep (thanks to being at Wrestlemania the night before). Plus my act whole act is made up on the spot and I lost my train of thought midway through my big bit.

I think there probably is more humour in spontaneous situations and what not- but I love watching standup comedy
