Special K 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 Pick your poison. Fully Loaded 2000 of course comes to mind, smark-wise. It's actually an excellent PPV, but Angle getting his as SQUASHED and Benoit and Jericho losing was miserable from a mark standpoint. Starrcade 97': Fucking miserably booked PPV. This was supposed to be IT for WCW fans, and if the WCW team had prevailed definitively, it wouldn't have ended the nWo angle, they could have dragged it on. But the heels reigned supreme, every babyface needed Bret Hart to win. Whether or not you think the 'fast count' was bribed by Hogan (I do, there's really no other plausible explanation) Hogan whooped Sting's ass the whole match. The unbeatable Sting. Horrible. WMX, there's a PPV that everyone could love. Drama, grat matches, good guys winning, and the first great match I ever saw (Bret/Owen. I saw a second grat match after that, but I can't place my finger on it...)
MDH257 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 WM 2000, they throw away the HHH-Rock match they had been building toward because the McMahons wanted to be able to say "remember the year we main evented Wrestlemania", bring Mick Foley out of retirement after only a month so he can job to HHH again, and the big finish is the almighty HHH coming out on top again and Vince turning heel for the tenth time. Backlash 2000 a couple of weeks later was everything Wrestlemania should have been.

MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 A sentimental favorite of mine is Spring Stampede 1994. I know the ppv ends w/ an indecisive finish but it was such a fun show to watch. The Chicago crowd is hot for much of it. The opener was a nice little bonus match. The street fight was awe-inspiring at the time. My buddy and I marked for Muta regardless of a 8min headlock or whatever. Sting won the big gold belt. IIRC, Vader busted out a moonsault. The Bunkhouse Match was pretty hardcore at a time when my only exposure was syndicated WWF/WCW programming. And of course, the Main Event was great. My buddy and I went half and half on the ppv and we'd fight over how long one of us would get to keep the tape before letting the other one have it. Imagine my surprise when I go to Suncoast in the late 1990s and see Spring Stampede 1994 for $12ish. My jaw dropped and I bought it.
res37618 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 And on the same note, Spring Stampede '99. I don't know if I've ever been so stoked about being a wrestling fan as I was after that show (WM X-7 excluded) - it shows what could've happened had WCW done things right, it was a damned good PPV with only a couple of minor flaws. MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 ^^^ Ironically, I popped in SprSt99 before I left the house this morning to make a backup copy of it.

MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 Yeah, once my master of Best of WWF Volume 9 snapped, I decided to make backup copies of most (if not all) of my commercial masters to avoid having this happen again . . . after about 2 months, I'm halfway through. Plus, it's nice being able to cram 3-8 videos on a 8hr tape.
Guest jm29195 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 No Way Out 2000- a great ppv, but all the heels went over, Foley was 'retired' Rock 'lost' his no.1 contendership, and Tazz lost to Bossman!!!!

But the heels reigned supreme, every babyface needed Bret Hart to win. Whether or not you think the 'fast count' was bribed by Hogan (I do, there's really no other plausible explanation) It was a slow count. Sting was supposed to look screwed by a fast count, but Patrick did a slow count to make the win look legitimate, remember? Bret came out and acted like Sting got kayfabe screwed anyway (ironically, he was legitimately screwed.) Hell, for all we know, this could be a worked-shoot angle to make it look like Sting REALLY got screwed. A sentimental favorite of mine is Spring Stampede 1994. Is this on the tape? Danny Bonaduce (Danny Partridge) beat Christopher Knight (Peter Brady). And on the same note, Spring Stampede '99. I taped it. I remember it being good, aside from the four-way dance ME. I am not big on those or triple threats. And this: Scotty Riggs pinned Mikey Whipwreck (7:03). Nothing like a surprise Riggs match.

Danny is a legit badass...well, in terms of fighting other celebs. He is a black belt in one or more martial arts. He also beat Barry Williams (Greg Brady) at the first Celebrity Boxing event. Taking out the Brady family...one by one!

Actually, I believe Tazz won by DQ. Tazz was playing his "Go on ahead, beat the shit out of me. I'm tough dammit!" gimmick. Albert and Bossman did a number on him and many people were chanting for Ken Shamrock.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 KOTR 2000 was really disapointing from a smark POV. When Benoit and Guerrero both went out first round, robbing us of a semi-final match between the two and a potential classic final with Angle, that just killed the PPV for me right there. It didn't help that the main event was a fucking six man tag where Rock pinned McMahon to win the world title.

Some Guy 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 WM 2000, they throw away the HHH-Rock match they had been building toward because the McMahons wanted to be able to say "remember the year we main evented Wrestlemania", bring Mick Foley out of retirement after only a month so he can job to HHH again, and the big finish is the almighty HHH coming out on top again and Vince turning heel for the tenth time. Backlash 2000 a couple of weeks later was everything Wrestlemania should have been. I think the way they booked it made sense from a business point of view. If Rock went over HHH clean in the middle they would have been able to get one more ME out of it. By booking it so that HHH was capable of winning it kept the feud going and with Austin and Foley out they needed that feud to last until someone else came along (Angle). All of their PPV MEs did well and they wouldn't have if Rock beat him 2 straight. I agree that the "McMahon in every corner" and Vince turning heel things were bad but other than that, with hindsight I can't say that the WM 2000 ME was booked incorrectly. They really had no other choice. I was pissed at the time, though.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 Unforgiven 2002. Overall, it was a pretty good PPV, but the ending to the main event totally killed my love of it. It wasn't necessarily that Brock v Undertaker ended in a No Contest, but that Lesnar the young studly powerhouse who was the future of the promotion was treated as the personal bitch of an aged and decrepit 'locker room leader'. Undertaker dominated the match, sold virtually nothing, and it all ended with Undertaker tossing Lesnar through the PPV set. It should have been the exact opposite, but because Undertaker wasn't 'feeling it' in regards to doing a job, and it wasn't even going to be clean, he had to gobble Lesnar up under the guise of looking strong before he would finally do the job the next month. Just John 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 I still mark for the NWO forming at the end of Bash at the Beach 96. And the Rey/Psychosis match on that card was damn fine. I also mark for Sting returning to beat up the NWO at Uncensored 97, which also featured a solid undercard (esp. Malenko/Guerrero). I'll agree with Starrcade 97 being depressing. I remembered that whole show being mediocre when I watched it live. Then I re-watched it for the first time a couple weeks ago, and I discovered it was horrible. Just a hard to watch show all around, and the Hogan/Sting match was a joke. As for WWE... I marked hardcore when Angle won his first title. I still mark for Benoit and Eddie winning the major titles and the embrace at the end of WM 20. I hated it when those three lost their titles, but moreso for Eddie losing to JBL at the Great American Bash. I also hated the ending for the JD 2000 IM match. I love the show as a whole, and mark for Taker returning, but the final fall DQ left a bad taste in my mouth.
