This is a thread to great matches most of us have probably forgot. I read a post on another board where somebody talked about a great series of Marty Jannetty vs. Kato matches which I'm assuming happened on Superstars leading up to Royal Rumble 1991. Anyone else remember these?

As for me, I watched a great match between Jannetty and Bam Bam Bigelow from RAW in 1993 the other day that I've never heard anyone mention. Also from RAW in 1993 is a good 2/3 falls match with Doink and Marty.

Anyone else remember any good matches from Superstars, RAW, Wrestling Challenge, Prime Time Wrestling, All American Wrestling, Worldwide, Saturday Night, or any other show that deserves mention?

Yeah, I have one Marty Janetty vs Kato match on tape which is pretty good. I also have a nice Janetty vs Tanaka match.

DDP v Sting, Monday Nitro in Louisville, KY.

During the era where Raven had stolen the US title. The match itself just surprised me about how good it actually was.

Mr. Perfect and Shawn Michaels had a kick ass match from the WM VII Primetime Wrestling Special, and it's also available on World Tour 1991 (or one of the WT's).

L.O.D. vs Austin/Michaels from a mid-97 RAW.

Michaels bumping like a pinball was pretty cool to watch and this match proves that Road Warrior Animal was truly an underrated and athletic big man. I just dug his work in this match.

Prior to one of the earlier In Your Houses (which featured Razor vs Dean Douglas), Razor and 1-2-3 Kid wrestled on a RAW (Superstars?) in order to settle some tension created by Douglas. As you would expect between two Clique members, they pulled out one hell of a match that ended up with Ramon obliterating the Kid, going so far as to pinning him three times (Kid insisted on continuing). Douglas interference ensued and things seemed all right between Razor & the Kid, for now.

Doink and Curt Hennig had a really good series of matches on RAW heading into the first KOTR.

But I liked the in-ring work of face Doink. It was just a shame his gimmick was so bloody lame.

WCW Pro in 1991 had a streak of three weeks of main events that were all well over ***+, with the matches being Z-Man, Dustin Rhodes and Big Josh v Richard Morton, Terry Taylor and Thomas Rich, Brian Pillman v Ricky Morton, and Steve Austin and Bobby Eaton v Brian Pillman and Z-Man.

WWF had one of the very few Ricky Steamboat v Bret Hart matches air on TV in 1986 that was PPV quality.

Pat Tanaka had a pair of ***+ matches with 1-2-3 Kid and Marty Jannetty on WWF syndicated TV in 1993.

I just watched Hulk Hogan vs. Mr. Perfect from SNME in 1990. Not great, probably only around **, but Hogan showed a ton of energy in that match and took his own share of the bumps. Hennig's bumping was superb of course. Very fun popcorn match. Hogan actually had a nice run of matches around that time frame (1989-1991).

The York Foundation 6-mans were REALLY good for a stretch there.

And I'm still amazed that Pat Tanaka never really got over. I always assumed he and Al Perez would be much bigger than they ended up becoming.

Woah woah woah... when was Tanaka on WWF TV in 1993? I thought he was gone by Wrestlemania VIII.

I seem to remember him popping up from time to time. He wasn't around all of the time.

That was after Jannetty lost the title (he lost the title on June 6th, 1993 IIRC, and that match happend in either late June/Early July). Still a pretty good match. Doink was awesome as a heel.

Him (Doink) and Perfect (like mentioned) had 3 good matches on the 5/1/93 Superstars, 5/23 Challenge, and the RAW KOTR Qualifying Match: Take 3.

Hogan-Bob Orton from the Memorial Day episode of Superstars (1986).

werent the first two matches kotr qualifiers as well? i remember them both going to time limit draws and thus needing a final match with no time limit on RAW to finally advance someone (and in that one another doink came out from under the ring and Perfect pinned HIM) Ironic cuz at the PPV Luger vs Tatanka went to a draw and they didnt add extra time.

I still have to mention Steve Austin vs Barry Windham 2/3 falls for the TV title on WCW SAT Nite (Barry wins the title) as I really enjoyed the match at the time.

I remember a good Money INC vs High Energy Match (it was either superstars or challenge) from I guess about early 93ish or it could have been 92ish. Koko was injured and had to be taken to the back, but Owen continued to fight only to lose. It was an excellent match if I recall, but I was angry cuz I was waiting for Bret to come out to help his bro.

123 Kid/Jannetty vs The Headshrinkers for the tag titles (during kids/martys brief ttitle reign in early 94) its availiable on Wrestlefest 94 (same tape as Steiners vs Harts) was a surprisngly good to me match. The Shrinkers actually sold a bit for the champs and Kid was bouncing around the ring as usual. It even had a flase finish as The Shrinkers cheated to win and celebrated, but the ref reversed the decision I think after another ref came out to explain.

All 3 were KOTR matches, I just said it for the last one because I couldn't remember the date of the MNR match (maybe June 1st?).

I don't think it ever made TV, but Steiners vs. Hart Foundation from the Wrestlefest 94 tape is a GREAT babyface vs. babyface tag team match.

The 123 Kid/Razor vs. Shawn/Diesel match from the Slamfest tape is a great match from Superstars that is a pretty famous battle of the Clique. But if you've never seen it before, it's definitely worth checking out. Waltman is friggin' AMAZING in that match.

I ran across some really good RAW matches from 1996 when I was watching a bunch of old RAWs I had never seen. Steve Austin vs. Taker was solid, Shawn Michaels vs. Marty Jannetty for the title was very good, and Undertaker vs. Mankind no holds barred a few weeks after Survivor Series is a great little brawl that you never hear mentioned.

The KLIQ Tag Match happend on the October 30th, 1994 episode of the Action Zone. It was one of the first weeks in the show, with a good Bret/Owen match being on the debut episode.

never seen that, but the rematch on Worldwide where Austin won the title back i really liked.

Off the Inside the WWF tape, there's a tag match that's nearly as good as the kliq one, it's Jannetty/Ramon vs HBK/Diesel. And also from that tape I'm a big fan of Yoko vs Bret in the cage.....

Michaels and HHH had a phenomenal match on Raw in May 1996.

Seconded. Frankly I think it's better than any of their overblown 2002-2004 matches.

I suppose my favorite hidden gem is the Owen-Shawn match from 12/97 Raw. I love it to death. Probably in part due to Owen coming within an inch of winning the World Title. ;-)

It was a good match for a Coliseum Video exclusive match, but compared to the Kliq match... I don't think so. Michaels was in the middle of his lazy, overweight days (taped sometime in August '93), Diesel wasn't very active, and thus was probably not "loose enough" to have a good match, and a good portion of the match was resting.

A more recent one would be The Hardyz vs. Edge and Christian at No Way Out 2000. Everyone plays up their gimmick matches, but this regular tag match was excellent.

I remember that austin-windam match from wcwsn.I wish I was able to get a copy of that match. It was great at the time.

Another in sept/oct 92 was windam/dustin rhodes winning the tag belts from williams/gordy.great 30 minute match.

The best though is flair/steamboat in 5/94.It was there rematch from spring stampede.Much better than the ppv match and 45 minutes long.

WCWSN was awesome back then.It seemed like you could always find a ***+ match on there.

I remember a fun Roddy Piper vs Shawn Michaels match on WWF TV before Wrestlemania 8.

Chris Benoit vs Steve Austin - 5/28/01 (The one on Raw. Doesn't get talked about as much as 5/31 because of the shitty finish, but the match is very good before that finish)
