natey2k4 Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I may start asking a question or two daily, to find out what my fellow "smarks" think. This will be good to get different opinions on certain questions each day. Anyway the question for today is really three parts and it is; Why Does Orton Get So Much Hate Around Here? Why Does He Deserve It? And Is He Really As Bad As Everyone Here Makes Him Out To Be? *I'll post my opinions after a few replies.
Guest MikeSC Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I don't do much HATE him as I am utterly apathetic towards him. He in a position he should not be in, as he is a really, really bland face. As a heel, he had a cool demeanor and the "RNN" thing was gold. -=Mike
2GOLD Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I don't hate him. I just dislike his Mean Street Posse face and his Lex Luger promo ability so much that I would rather listen to HHH talk for 30 minutes than Randy for 5. His ring work is sub-par but I blame that more on the style of the WWE and I'm not sure what ability anyone has in the ring anymore. I just find Orton to be boring with his moves, boring with his promos and the kind of look that belongs more in "Jock bullies wimp" movie than wrestling. Add in he dresses like he just stumbled in after killing a hooker in Vegas and you have my total reasons. He has no charisma to me and he is about as cool as those Pepto commercials.
tekcop Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 He's pushed pretty heavily without actually being entertaining. His matches aren't anything special, he can't cut a promo worth a fuck, and his character is boring. There are many, many more people on the roster that could be so much more than he is with just half the push.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 He's a terrible babyface. His mic work, while adequate, is delivered with all the passion of a eunuch on his wedding night. He keeps doing that gay ass pose all the time. His wrestling attire makes him look like he's come straight out of a Suck 'n' Cum Wrestling home video. He does nothing bad in the ring, but he also does nothing at all that draws my attention. He has all the charisma of a tree. He's just 'there'. I don't hate him, but I have zero desire to ever see him wrestle, no matter how many times they have him RKO washed up crack heads or stick figures with breasts that look like flea bites.
Rendclaw Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I'm more apathetic towards him than Mike is, as I could not care about him as a heel or as a face. To me, he is Brock Lesnar 2005; pushed too fast, too soon and its starting to blow up in his face. Since his face run has stopped dead in its tracks, what happened last night wasn't even that much of a surprise, since it seems that him playing the cowardly heel-that-isn't would have been the way to go against uber-face Taker. But overall I say, meh.
Promoter Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Orton basically is Rocky Maivia 2005, but the difference is he did not capitalize on the uber push given to him last summer. Maybe he will pick up steam returning to heeldom. His mic work is atrocious though. Maybe Triple H and Flair really are that good and people didn't notice how weak he is on the mic. Hopefully, his dreaded long headlocks don't return either. I don't hate him really. I'm more apathetic as some have stated here. He has his moments though.
AndrewTS Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 His matches are boring. Not flat out horrible like they used to be, but boring. His promos suck. He's a goofy-looking motherfuck who I could more believably see as a midcarder. His character is as bland as library paste smeared on white bread. The notion that he should be main eventing anything besides a house show in his home state right now is absurd to me.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I'm indifferent to him and think he's a lifer for the mid-card. I think he has no business beating Undertaker because they blew their one chance to make something of him in the summer.
Guest Coffey Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 He just comes off as if he's trying too hard to fit in. Nothing about him seems natural. It all comes off as if he's trying to do what he thinks everyone wants. Everything from his ringwork, to his entrance, to his attire to his promo's. He's a walking, talking cliché. He looks like the kind of kid that tried to pick on you in high school. Everyone else looks like the kids that wouldn't get picked on. There's a difference. The big difference being if he picked on you, you'd kick his cocky ass.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Why is Orton the future? because Vince says so.
razazteca Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Why is Orton the future? because Vince says so. Because HHH Vince said so.
natey2k4 Posted March 22, 2005 Author Report Posted March 22, 2005 Alright I said I'd leave my opinoins after a few replies.. thanks for all the feedback and replies guys and ladies. Anyway, while Orton's matches are never bad, and normally actually some of the best on the card (Pretty much from late 2003 - till about now), normally within the top 2 on the card. vs RVD, vs Benjamin, vs Benoit... all are decent-good workers, but Orton had to carry his own weight. Orton's restholds are for the most part boring, but at least he adds drive to them, and torque to make them look better. If I must say, he does the best Boring Restholds in the company right now. While he does get some of the best pops still at houses shows and probably live events, he does lack something in charisma. Maybe that will come someday.. but as of now he is a really generic face. Orton is decent while giving heel promos (I loved the Bad Blood 2004 promo he gave, one of the best PPV promos in a long time).. but sucks at face promos. Overall I would say Orton was pushed too fast, but is still a relatively good talent. And I'm gonna get bashed for this, but to me Orton is a better wrestler & talker than Batista.. although I do like them both. So in Final Words, Orton was pushed too fast, too soon, but still should have a good future because he is a decent talent.
The Niggardly King Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 He comes off as a jock from a bad 80's comedy movie. The only difference is it's not funny. He doesn't suck enough where I find him amusingly entertaining like a Snitsky or Heidenreich. He's a guy who is plain and seems like he's trying too hard to be something else. I started liking him when he had pyro added to his entrance but once it was taken away he was just back to plain old Randy Orton to me.
Big McLargeHuge Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 His character is immensely bland to me. Heel or Face. Looks like they were shooting for the next Rock, and got Lex Luger instead. Now they're trying to retrace their steps to find out what went wrong by turning him heel and starting from scratch. Orton just doesn't have the dynamic personality that Rocky has. I don't find a thing special about him. Since I didn't watch over the summer, was Orton getting face pops as a heel? If so, why?
The Niggardly King Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 If Orton played a prick heel that picked on people only to wind up getting his ass kicked, then he'd be entertaining.
Gary Floyd Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 I don't really hate him per say. Hell, I like him better as a heel. It's just that they've pushed his heel turn too soon, IMO
Guest Coffey Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 I don't think that they pushed him heel too soon as much as I just think he shouldn't have turned babyface. He could've easily left Evolution as a cocky tweener.

I don't find a thing special about him. Since I didn't watch over the summer, was Orton getting face pops as a heel? If so, why? Because as I said in my earlier post, he was putting on pretty damn good matches every night. Although with great talent, who could carry just about anyone (Benoit, RVD, Benjamin, Edge)... Plus to me, I thought he played heel very effectively, and for awhile (while in evolution) had the best entrance on RAW, with an awesome pyro. Best entrance right now goes to Christian, and Edge's ain't too bad either.
tekcop Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Since I didn't watch over the summer, was Orton getting face pops as a heel? If so, why? The same reason a lot of major heels get cheered now. They go out and run their mouths and then, in the end, they come out on top so they can look strong. The babyfaces all look weak, pussified, and generally uncool compared to Evo at its peak.
The Niggardly King Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Since I didn't watch over the summer, was Orton getting face pops as a heel? If so, why? I only remember him getting cheered over Edge really, since I've never seen his match with Benoit.

I only remember him getting cheered over Edge really, since I've never seen his match with Benoit. He got huge pops, and even chants while he faced Shelton Benjamin.. the Benoit/Orton match was more in the favour of Benoit, but Orton still had alot of pops for a heel.
Guest Trivia247 Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 last time I saw big pops for randy orton it was coming from a couple of Love starved 18 year old girls holding up signs...that was about it

Vern Gagne Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 One thing that WWE dropped the ball with Orton on was RNN. During that time, he seemed to be more a smartass heel. When he came back from the injury, he was just a generic egotiscial pretty boy heel. RNN was something different, and for whatever reason they decided to drop it.
Silence Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Name them. Another thing, natey....name the good Orton matches that DID NOT involve Jericho or Benoit carrying him, and don't just say the "Randy Orton vs. Edge" matches, either.

One of these things is most definitely NOT like the others.
Youth N Asia Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 I don't mind Orton, he's definatly over right now. My problem was him just getting forced on us on RAW every week while he wasn't over. RNN was great. I liked his heel work before Evolution took up 3/4 of the show.
natey2k4 Posted March 23, 2005 Author Report Posted March 23, 2005 I guess Orton vs Benjamin would be the quick way around that.. But normally Orton was in the best matches week in and week out. I never said he was Amazing in the ring, but the matches he was involved in were normally really good matches.
