Wrestling wouldn't be wrestling without bad guys. But most bad guys are just arrogant and cocky (Flair, Shawn circa 1992, HHH) or foreign menaces-

What heels were real villians, the guys who didn't just want to beat the good guys and insult the fans, but had a real malice to them.

2 off the top of my head are Jake Roberts in 1991 and Brock Lesnar in 2003. Jake as a heel in 1991 went beyond standard bad guys cliches and became someone truly despicable, where for a moment you really felt the lines were being blurred. Lesnar wasn't as successful, but during that period where he attacked Zach Gowen and even shocked Vinnie Mac he showed a real streak of coldness and brutality.

Any other suggestions?

I also just remmembered the Dudleyz in ECW from 98-99, they nearly started full scale riots, and I was present at one of the best (Heat Wave 99)

The original Mankind was pretty villainous. Ditto for the original Undertaker.

Some other good ones were "Stone Cold" Steve Austin during his initial heel run, 1999-2001 Triple H, Kane, 1998-2001 Scott Steiner, Hollywood Hogan, and The Rock during his first heel run (he was more than just cocky--he was an evil bastard).

Aside from the ones already mentioned, Savage in 1986-87, Austin in 2001, and Vince in 1998 before he became a parody of himself.

^^Ahhh, but Honky was just a cocky arrogant heel, true he annoyed fans to the point of insanity, but he never did anything truly horrible or despicable, except for when he shoved Liz, that was hardcore.

I was just going to say Dibiase in his original WWF run. He was one of the few guys I could never see going face, though he eventually did in WCW, due to the whole nWo angle.

Earthquake in his first WWF run was quite a heel...I remember what a big deal it was when he squashed Hogan on the Brother Love show.

Kane-for setting people on fire.

Hollywood Hogan-For laying the smackdown on crippled asses NWO style.

while in ECW, Raven was the most despicable, slimy bastard EVER.

Roberts vs Raven, how much mind games would've been played in THAT fued.

Raven was still doing that break fingers spot in HEAT matches in 02. He even did it in TNA to Cassiday Reiley on an Impact. It does look cool though.

nWo? yes if only due to Kevin Nash throwing Mysterio like a dart into the trailer at Disney.

Akira Taue and Toskiaki Kawada-Both could be sympathetic but other than that they were real bastards. The way they abused old frail Baba in a 94 tag is about as shocking as it gets. Were also reall assholes to each other in singles matches, even after their fued when they were partners.

in Joshi:

Ozaki-In tag matches she'd stomp the face's fingers from the apron when they tried to make it to the ropes.

Brian Pillman in his ECW and WWF run. Especially in his last days in the WWF.

Wasn't aware of that. Still...kinda surprised nobody's ripped that off yet

Muta's got to be up there too.

X-Pac was a right little bastard for a while there.

Rude was mostly an arrogant heel, but he had some inspired villainous moments, especially in his feud with Lawler in (Memphis?)

It's gotta be Raven/Roberts followed by the Dudleys in my book, though.

I loved when the Dudleys found a sheet of paper from Gertner which had all his debts, and they assumed that it was sort of a 'hit' sheet'; they proceeded to maul everyone who even sort of liked them.

Jericho in WCW was arrogant and sneaky and detestable at the same time. Making fun of Dean Malenko's 'poor dead daddy' was just crazy. Also, didn't he beat Juvy, unmasking him, then proceed to beat the shit out of him anyway?

How about abdullah the butcher? he took a special delight in making people bleed(although the fans did like it too) Kevan Sullivan from the demonic days?
