I hope this will begin a transition to smaller arenas.

Smaller arena + hotter crowds > Huge arena / dead crowd.

Let's face it, business is down. You need to make it look like fun to attend the shows again.

Some of the comments in this thread are ridiculous.

No, chances are f-word chants aren't going to come out in full force on Raw and this isn't some sort of revival of crowds biting back and booing and chanting profanity at bad angles and boring matches.

The thing to remember is that this was a 0% mark crowd. How do I know this? Because I've been watching WWF since 1999 and even I don't know who half the guys on the card. I've been interested in wrestling for six years yet I'm not a veteran enough to know who's who on the card.

Most WWE viewers, on the other hand, are far markier than I am. And they'll just take what's given to them because it's their idle hobby and not something they obsess over like some people on this board.

And that's why JBL matches and HHH title wins will continue to be met with tepid applause instead of Fuck You chants.

It was good to see that Joey Styles hadn't changed at all over the past 4 years. Still looked the same, and did commentary just as well. I am still just in awe of that fantastic brawl between Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka. That definitely made my night. I dont normally tack star ratings onto matches, but I have no problem giving it ****.

In a perfect world, tonight would be what it finally takes to light a fire under Vince & Co.'s ass, and causes him to completely rethink how their shows are booked, and what their employees are allowed to do in matches. However, Im sure tomorrow it will be back to business as usual.

It's gonna be REALLY hard to watch RAW tomorrow. After watching a masterpiece of a PPV tonight, it's gonna be hard to realize that PPV is probably the last time something like that is gonna happen. It's gonna be hard getting back into the Draft Lottery, back into what RAW and SD are doing. Oh man.....this sucks...lol

notes from PWI:

After ECW One Night Stand ended, the ECW wrestlers left the ring one by one and returned to the locker room. Tommy Dreamer, who had been sitting on the floor watching the final battle, rolled into the ring and looked around the building. Dreamer began crying and got on his knees, bowing to the ECW logo on the ring. The crowd chanted, "Thank you Tommy." He then kissed the logo. The Dudley Boyz returned to the ring and embraced Dreamer, with Bubba saying, "This is all for you." Dreamer rolled out of the ring, hugged some fans at ringside and slowly made his way to the locker room.

During the brawl to end the show, John Bradshaw Layfield obviously targeted the Blue Meanie and shot all over him, stiffing him bigtime and bloodying him. He wound up reopening the gashes on the back of Meanie's head from Friday's Hardcore Homecoming show.

When they were off camera, a number of the Raw and Smackdown wrestlers continued to interact with the fans.

TNA's Trinity was backstage with Kid Kash.

Yeah I've read over at deathvalleydriver that JBL really didn't hold any punches back when he got face to face with Meanie and that after JBL was done with himhe just hid in a corner..

Also how was Joey Styles on commantary?

From wwe.com:

"Prior to the night’s main event, Paul Heyman took to the ring and thanked the people that made ECW possible. Heyman then focused his attention on the WWE crusaders in attendance, more specifically Eric Bischoff, Edge and JBL. Heyman took great pride in reminding him that he was in the audience at an ECW pay-per-view, not a WCW pay-per-view. He then focused his attention on Edge. Just after mocking the RAW Superstar by telling everybody to hide their wives, Heyman said he had one name for him – “Matt Freaking Hardy.” Finally, Heyman told JBL that the only reason he was WWE Champion for close to one year was because Triple H didn’t want to compete on SmackDown!"

Surprised they told about Hardy and the JBL bit.

Apparently Matt Hardy comments:

-- After hearing about all of the support that the fans gave him at the ECW PPV, Matt Hardy posted his thoughts on the show at his official website. The following is what was written by Hardy on his website:

"What's up everyone? I got about 50 calls tonight from people buzzing me on the ECW crowd being all over Adam's @ss about me and the Paul E plug. After reading a couple of reviews of the show, it reminded me of why I loved ECW so much back in the day. Spontaneity. Controversy. Not being afraid to break from "the formula." A lot of truth and honesty rolled into the "entertainment" aspect of pro wrestling. Regardless of how predetermined or not Paul's two (or three) words were - "Matt frickin' Hardy," I respect him and thank him for going there. It popped me when I heard. Paul Heyman is a truly amazing individual when it comes down to him having his fingers on the pulse of the product. I respect his contributions to the business and wrestling mind greatly. I also respect the f*ck out of the New York fans--more specifically, the more educated, can't be insulted, we'll call you out on your feces fans. When it comes to performing, there's nowhere like NYC and the New Yorkers. As always, I thank everyone for their support--be well."

I found this line pretty hilarious-

As if the pulse of the product is a guy that for the last few months has been bitching to no end over a slut.

I think he just meant it in general, not just in reference to that alone. Which is very, very true.. Heyman's had a knack forever for knowing what fans wanted, especially establishing hardcore/violent matches in stark comparison to the gimmicky WWF.

I kind of emotional right now, maybe because of nostagia. I don't know why but I want to say thank you.

Thank you Vince for doing something right.

Thank you Paul for telling people how it is.

Thank you to the workers of ECW for giving it your all.

Thank you Joey Styles. You ran circles by yourself around the RAW and Smackdown announce teams.

One more match Taz.... one more match.

Also, is anyone else having trouble viewing the webcast? I've been trying this thing for 4 hours and it's just not working for me. This is quite depressing, considering I actually want to watch this damn thing.

Naturally, but I just thought it was funny as it sounded like he was implying what I said above.

Was Paul E really "shooting" or do you think his whole speech was approved by Vince beforehand? I can't imagine Vince letting the promo go on once he realized Paul was shooting IF he really was, he would have just had them cut out the mic.

It was likely a WORKED shoot. Vince knows the fans knows all about what's going on, so he likely didn't care. And if he did, he'll punish Heyman later on.

However like I just said, it was more likely a work than an actual shoot.

SO, it's not OK for him to be upset over the loss of a LONG TERM girlfriend, and be forced to deal with it publically, and make no bones about it, sir, that he is being FORCED. I'm sure you havent had many girlfriends, at least many serious, long term ones, but if you had your heart ripped to pieces and chomped to bits by your girlfriend AND your best friend, you might be singing a different tune, chachki. And by the way...The pulse of the product does indeed lie on the Matt Hardy/Lita/Edge situation-why?- Because it carries with it some EMOTION, some emotion like we saw tonight in the ring, and THAT is what WWE has lacked for a severely long time. I guarantee you that a Matt Hardy Edge fued would absolutely sell a building out., just built on that raw emotion ( no pun intended) ALONE. So yeah, Paul Heyman got it spot on, and decided not to Ignore the fans chants-which didnt happen for the first time tonight, but they were loudest, and most definitely directed to Mr. Copeland- and he gave the fans what theyve been wanting for about 2 months...SOME FUCKING RECOGNITION. We knew what was happening, and the WWE IGNORED US. SO, YEAH, Matt was right, Paul E does have his finger on the pulse of what fans want, and it's the most simple thing in the world...they want to be recognized, appreciated, and respected.

Let's not turn this into a Matt Hardy-only thread. And the rest of your post, I'll disregard, just because I'm not going to flame you over something silly. We're both entitled to our own opinions. I think Matt Hardy is being stupid by making it all about him, ONCE AGAIN. You think it's justified. Good for you.

No dragging this thread off-topic. If you want to get into a bitchfest, take it to PM's.

My apologies,

I do believe that this PPV showed us all what we're missing. Raw will definitely be tough to watch tomorrow.

This is the first time EVER I have actually stayed sat down and watched the entire replay of a PPV.

This show was just unbelievable.

RVD's interview was a shoot because if you're a mark, you have no idea what he's talking about.

But Heyman? Everything he said could be justified by a WWE mark. Even a mark remembers the on-air relationship Matt Hardy and Lita had. A mark can relate to his comments on Edge. A mark can relate to his comments on Eric Bischoff. A mark can relate to his comments on JBL.

"The only reason you were WWE Champion for a year is because Triple H didn't want to work Tuesdays." = Worked Shoot

"The only reason you were WWE Champion for a year is because Triple H wasn't there on Tuesdays to fuck Stephanie McMahon before the pre-show creative meeting." = Shoot Shoot.

But the show was incredible.

I got teary-eyed at the beginning seeing Joey Styles almost lose it.

I marked out when Francine showed up. I was totally not expecting that.

But the mark out moment of the night was seeing Beulah for the first time in 7 years. Awesome.

Need I say anything more about Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka? They had a match that completely equalled November 2 Rememer 1999, if not outdid it. I was surprised the ECW crowd didn't hold a grudge against Awesome, but Joey Styles sure did. You could tell Mick Foley was really trying to defend him.

Rey vs. Psicosis was terrible. Psicosis tried, but Rey really should have known better not to bring his WWE act to an ECW show.

What happened to the Japanese-style match Heyman promised us between Chris Benoit & Eddie Guerrero? It looked like a lame WWE-style match to me. And plus, Eddie just seemed like he didn't want to be there.

For a guy who was told he'd never wrestle again, Sabu put on a great performance. "YOU GOT FIRED" chants at Rhino were hilarious. I also enjoyed seeing him referred to as the Big F'N Deal again.

Boy, is Taz a fucking fatass now or what? You would have thought he would have at least stayed in shape after retirement.

RVD gave the best promo of his career. I bet he knocked the socks off any WWE fan who had never heard RVD be the Whole F'N Show.

The 3-Way was great for what it was, but way too short. When Guido got eliminated early, I thought Tajiri and Super Crazy would have another 15-minute war again. Not to be.

ECW is like a drug. I thought the addiction was over. I hadn't taken a hit for 4 years. And I finally experienced it one more time, and I'm addicted again.

Looks like they pushed the right buttons. I haven't seen this board marking out so much since...well, maybe since Evolution turned on Orton. And even then, not so much.

Still don't regret not ordering though. Sounds like the kind of show that'll live in the memory for a couple of months but won't hold up all that well over time. Still, if the DVD isn't edited to all hell then I'll be picking it up, just to see what all the hysterics here were about.
