DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 I recall the NHL games getting a bad rap on the SNES (especially the later years in the series) even if only compared to the better Genesis versions that I never played, but I always loved playing them for my SNES every year. It was a bit old by NHL 96, though.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 In regards to Double Dragon, I think the NES version is a little eh but the old Sega Master version rules. I remember getting a free game of that from the company for whatever reason and I was just thrilled. There is one game that no one has mentioned (because it isn't bad for one): Shinobi. The original Shinobi in the arcade and on Sega is one of my favorite games ever. It owns everything. As far as a guilty pleasure goes, it doesn't get much campier and silly than Renegade. Fun game, but it's cheese galore.
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 Super Baseball Simulator 2000 for the SNES. Some of the CRAZIEST Baseball ever...which makes it a bad game to some. Fun as fuck, says I. Dames <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I love this game, if it is what I am thinking of. I know there was one (it may have been simulator 1.000 or whatever) that had a female team and a legends team, along with a few other special teams outside of the regular MLB ones. I believe this one also had the slot machine type thing where your batter/pitcher could get power ups like a super spin or a super fast or slow ball or a cannon shot. Oh man, I just remembered the all-robot team. The pitcher had a fucking cannon arm or some shit. I loved it.
Ced 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 The Simpsons Arcade game was the only beat 'em up at the local arcade after a foosball went through the screen of Golden Axe 2. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A traverse air hockey puck I can understand (I've been beaned by one, and yes, it hurts like fuck) but how do you manage the trajectory and velocity to have a foosball break through a screen?
Carnival 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 Golden Axe is a great game. Here is 2 stinkers you may or may not remember, Mutant League Football, Ultraman for the SNES.

I was desparately clinging to a lead in the bottom of the ninth in the outer space stadium and got myself into a jam. I think was just about out of 'wacky points' or whatever that shit was the let you throw the crazy plays. Anyway it's two outs with a couple on base and I serve him up a BP fastball which he just knocks the absolute piss out of. We're talking 600ft out of here blast. My brother jumps up and is all, "YES YES!! HAHAHA EAT THAT ONE!!" Then he looks at the screen which says, "OUT! Game Over!" We both are like, "WTF?!?" until we see my centerfielder floating back down to the field. He must have leapt 400 feet in the air to rob him of the dinger. I bust out laughing and my brother just went apeshit and started stomping all over our NES. God I loved that game!
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 I was going to add the Mode 7 NCAA Basketball game for the SNES (my cousins and I always rented it and enjoyed making shots from half court) but checking reviews on GameFAQs seem to indicate the game was well received at the time. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 A crap game that I used to love playing was this Major League Baseball game for the old Game Gear. I used to be able to pick the Braves on that game, put in an ultra fast lineup with Deion Sanders and some other guys, and just KILL the computer like 25-3. Aero 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 Most Simpson games are bad, but I remember renting Virtual Bart occasionally way back when. The tomato-throwing level was fun. Nothing will ever top the Arcade game, and luckily, they STILL have it at my movie theater.

Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 I liked the cheesy sound effects and taunts <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "Call an Ambulance!" "I own you" "HAAAAAAAAA Can't Take the Heat?" "I'm Gone!" "Black Turds!" I never got that last one. I think it's supossed to be "My Turf" or something. And a note about NBA action '95(could be '96), you could dribble down the floor, pump fake your guy at the 3-Point line, and then just keep dribbling. You can pump fake as many times as you want without a traveling call. It was great/horrible. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it was trying to say, "this is my turf"
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2005 For Madden 96 a Nickel Defence with an inside blitz will always get you a sack and on offence a sweep to the outside will give you a first down.

Ced 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2005 Here are 2 stinkers you may or may not remember, Mutant League Football, Ultraman for the SNES. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Never played Mutant League Football, but I remember playing Mutant League Hockey and nearly every game ended in a forfeit since me and my brother made it a priority to kill each other's players. Hell, I even remember the friggin' Mutant League cartoon. I remember renting Ultraman just so I could use my Game Genie on it. The game sucked huge though, if I'm remembering correctly. You could just jumpkick everyone over and over without backing them into a corner.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2005 anyone remember the Power Rangers game on SNES? That was pretty decent...it was a side scroller beat em up...
Special K 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2005 Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage was a truly bad Final Fight Clone, but I got quite a bit of fun out of it, just because you can play as Venom stomping the crap of what looks like a bunch of bums and 16 year old kids. And the apparently obligatory women who whip you with their hair. I don't really love them, but if I see a light-gun game at an arcade, I always have to play a life or two, even if I know the game sucks. Games like Lethal Enforcers, that Jurassic Park game, CarnEvil, terrible games, but sometimes you just need to shoot some stuff, and they don't really make light gun games for consoles anymore. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2005 remember T2: The Arcade Game? that game kicked ass! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> hell yea it did. on espn mlb 2k5 I just beat the drays with the yanks 35-1 in my season, but it glitched and I DIDNT GET TO SAVE. I HAD A 18 RUN INNING TOO DAMNNNNN
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2005 you got that glitch in season mode, correct? I noticed that shit too...it happened about 4 or 5 times...I'd play a game, go back to the calender at it shows the game has yet to be played, so i'd hit sim and it still wouldn't go through...so i'll click over to the next game and hit "simulate up to" and it would FINALLY go through...it really screwed me up because I had a pitcher going undefeated (Kris Benson) and I had to keep reloading and skipping until it gave him the win...I was already 17-0 with this guy when it first happened, no way was I letting it get fucked up because of a stupid glitch... cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 Here's another Game Gear brawler that I liked: Streets of Rage. The Game Gear was a curious invention really, a hand held portable that was too big to conveniently carry around (like a Game Boy). Add to it that you had to get a wall plug in charger or change batteries every 2 hours and it's no wonder the format never got all that popular. Renegade is a fun game, the main thing that kinda sucks though is that about 12 guys attack you at once. It doesn't have the cliches of stuff like Double Dragon where one or two attack at a time. The main boss on Renegade is named SABU I might add.
Guest Fook Report post Posted June 28, 2005 In no way is Streets of Rage considered a bad game. And it was on Genesis too, not just Game Gear.
Special K 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 I actually hated the game with a passion, but I beat Beyond the Beyond. That game's terrible. You gotta understand though, there hadn't been an RPG in America since Chrono Trigger.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 In no way is Streets of Rage considered a bad game. And it was on Genesis too, not just Game Gear. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The SoR series was the best Final Fight clone games around for quite a while. First one is kind of average, the 2nd is a masterpiece, and the 3rd is flawed but still very good. Shame that the 3rd game's storyline is butchered all to hell and some things make no sense at all. However, whipping out the Game Genie and playing as Ash makes for plenty of hilarity. I was playing some of SoR2 this morning, actually. Supposedly the Japanese versions of Sonic Gems collection is getting all three Bare Knuckle games (SoR in the States). BOOO! Hope Sega changes their minds and puts it out here. Special K 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 SoR2 is incredible, except the main char has that spinning flaming punch that you can pretty much use ad nauseum to beat the game.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 28, 2005 But you lose health every time you use an "A" button special attack, such as Axel's spinning flaming punch. The flaming uppercut, on the other hand, can be used over and over without losing health, and is pretty damn effective.

Anya 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2005 Final Fight arcade is really good though, I still play it a lot. Lightgun games are great. One has to be REALLY crappy to ruin the fun. I love my Area 51.
St. Gabe 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2005 I took a Streets of Rage 3 game I had for Genesis to a gamestop-I havent had my sega for years-and they gave me 14 bucks in trade value for it, thewy said the SoR series was really opoular, the sega versions of all three were selling for 28.99 there....it fucking blew my mind...
