Comments that don't warrant a thread

So after deciding 4 months ago that my slowly becoming non-functioning PS2 needs to be replaced, today is the day where it goes down. EB Games warned me that to get credit for my PS2, they have to run 3 tests on it - a game, DVD, and CD. I don't know how well they test or how much patience EB has for the testing process, though. A lot of times, even for a game that does work, you'll need to try twice and load the game throwing the browsing menu. It needs to be replaced regardless of whether I can get store credit towards a new one or not.

Edit: And the bulky, loud machine from 2001 is worth nothing. First thing the guy did was comment that my AV wire was too frayed to consider taking it in, but salesman 2 said "just test it". They tested a dual layer game (I believe it was God of War) first, and from what I understand those are the main games that aren't loading in my PS2. Naturally when it didn't load, the trade-in was off the table. I bought a new silver PS2 and called it a day. Salesman #1 did suggest giving the old PS2 to a Cash Convertors but really, I'm at the point where I can't do that in good conscious if the hardware has become so bad. I have no problem selling it to a friend for $20, though (he knows the hit or missness of it... I might even just give it to him).

I guess the nice thing about buying a new PS2 is it's slim, quiet, and it WORKS (I can finally rent/buy games without fear of them not loading!). I suppose I could even go online with it if I brought it up here. Also, 2 PS2's in 5 years seems better than multiple Xbox 360s in one year... right Anya? Of course most SNESs from 15 years ago work just fine but that's another story.

Welcome to the wonderful world of getting it fix/exchanged.

I decided to go back to NCAA07 to play and I created a decently made CAT (cupcake rating plus some CAPs that are good) and managed to somehow go 4-2 against ranked to near ranked teams, then cake walked the rest of my season to a Bowl win over Clemson (6-6) whom I crushed.

Didn't really get that many good players, but I got a few good ones that I could shuffle around some of my good players to accomodate them into the lineup. Hopefully I can move up my #25 ranking (I have no idea how I'm ranked, I didn't beat someoen really high up) and get a better Bowl ranking.

...:( I miss my truck stick from Madden though. God, slow HBs just get killed.

I'm playing NCAA07 too (having called a mulligan on my legends), this time as QB of UNC. We just handed Clemson a crippling blow to their title hopes. Next is THE U~! My QB leads all QBs by at least a thousand yards, and 5 TDs.

Anyone else playing the new Dawn of War game, Dark Crusade? It's quite fun, both of the new races are fairly interesting. It's also stand-alone, so you don't need to buy the original Dawn of War or Winter Assault to play.

Yup. Unless you want to play the Space Marines, Chaos, Orks, Eldar, or Imperial Guard in MP.

The Tau are my favorite of the two new races, due to the freedom of play styles.

Well, I lost my star FS and SS on my team in NCAA for 3 games due to violations. I hafta rotate my 3rd CB over to play either FS or SS, then rotate either two WRs or a WR and HB to play CB, one to cover the other FS or SS position because my depth sucks.

What I wouldn't give for some actual team depth here.

Why dont you play Legend? Less to manage.

As for me, my QB Legend in his freshman year is now 9-0, ranked 8th in the country (despite ranking 1st on offense and 1st on defense), and my QB is the leading Heisman candidate, with a good 2,000 yards lead over the 2nd place candidate. And all this for UNC.

I bought Cabella's Alaskan Adventures today. Cabella games are damn near as good as really hunting besides the getting cold and wet and having to gut something.

There just isn't anything more fun than following deer shit to your prey.

Actually, the hunting games are suprisingly fun.

Been there, done that. Twice even. And bah to using UNC... Oh wait, thought that was USC, my bad. Wasn't that much fun. If it was like Madden's it would be more fun (I need to get back to that too...)

Besides, I wanna try actually building my prospects and viewing the ones I need to draft for Madden. That and my team is a bunch of people I knew over the years are who I made as a team.

And after all my worrying about my game against #20 LSU, its seems I had no reason to fear them as I play cover both 2 wideouts all game and crush LSU 73-0. Then again, when you cough up 3 INTs on the first 3 drives, you don't have much of a choice. I was up 28-0 after one quarter thanks to that. ^_^ Managed to get to #10 ranking, and I think I've only got one ranked team left on my schedule, but that's more thanks to everyone on my schedule losing at least one game sans #3. Whom I forget who it is, but I'm gonna have fun. And considering my shutout of LSU got me a cover page on ESPN, I'm thinking that maybe I've got an outside shot at the BCS Bowl now. :) Probably against West Virginia who's riding a 16 game (or is it 17 now?) winning streak.

Also I've got 3 canidates for the Heisman trophy this year: Will Thompson who already has over 2500 yards and 22TDs in the air (yes, I'm a pass first, run later type of team) and whom has started getting running milage (300 yards + 7-10 TDs), David Hunter who has 38 receptions, 770 yards + 8 TDs and Dorian Sookochoff (myself) who was last year's winner but seemingly is dropping in the Heisman even though he has 39 receptions, 800 yards + 9 TDs. I only remember the wideout totals because I'm trying to figure out how the fuck my created self is dropping off the Heisman voting even though I have the same numbers as David. Its not fair. :(

Broadsides are hilarious. It's too bad their siege mode takes so long to set up. The Missile Boat "barrage" is a great way to demolish a choke point or a base, especially since you can have like 5 of em out.

You use the drone ship much? I haven't tried it out yet.

*snip*

It seemed fairly useless the first few times I've tried it, so I stopped using it.

I've only really done campaign mode so far, but I play defensively with the Tau. Fire Warriors have an insane range, even better if you take the Kauyon path and upgrade. You don't get the Hammerhead Gunship, but you do get the expanded Kroot roster, and they're better, anyway. I always take the upgrade that gives your commander Infiltration, and have him sit out a ways from my Fire Warriors and Missile Boats, so they pick off anything that gets even close. I just gradually advance with my main group, letting the main enemy forces come at me.

The Honor Guard Fire Warriors you get in campaign are even better. On some levels, they can shoot over half the map. It's just insane.

Is anyone else playing Phantasy Star Universe? I'm doing the online thing with a few friends.

The PC version pretty much looks as good as any next-gen game, and why not, considering how much stronger a PC is than any of the next-gen systems. The gameplay seems much more interesting than the old PSO1&2, as the cities are larger, there are more of them, there's special attacks for melee/ranged weapons, they've setup a good system for switching to different weapon combos on the fly, and a lot more that I can't be bothered to type out. I'm not very far into the game, but it's looking great so far.

The single player is apparently a full-length RPG itself. It's similar to the original PSO where you basically go through certain areas and fight a boss, but this time you have AI buddies who help you out. Online costs $9.99 a month, and you get 15 free days. Time will tell if it's worth the money. I can say that even though I liked the original PSO, I would never have paid to play it online, because there just wasn't enough content. PSU is quite a bit larger than PSO though, and Sega will supposedly release new content for the online game, so it could be alright.

Anyone have any idea of how to stop NCAA players from being stupid little fuckers and getting suspensions? I had so many problems last year that I got myself on a 2 year fucking probation and ended up having 10 less scholarships for that period of time.

Part 3 of the really cool Zelda retrospective series from gametrailers.com just got posted.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/28/legend-o...pective-part-3/

Posted the joystiq link b/c its just easier than navigating the clunky GT page. Links to part 1 and 2 are also on above page

Watchingthose I'm reminded of how awesome Gameboy's Link's Awakening was. Classic gameplay that really deserves to stand alongside Link to the Past as a great zelda game. i remember playing it on the original monochrome game boy and being amazed at the size, it was almost as good as link to the past and had the same gameplay.

As anyone played Diner Dash? Here is a link to the game, if you haven't played/heard of it. Everyone should give it a try. It's really fun and a great way to kill time.

I don't know if it will work for the PC because I have the Mac version but if anyone likes it, I can give them my key code to unlock it for the full version.
