Faces getting heavily booed

You know, people always bring that up about Edge being booed, but I would think he was already at least a tweener at that point, if not a full blown heel. He was already acting kind of whiny and jerkish at that point, and it was pretty obvious he was going to turn heel sooner rather than later. Yet people always bring it up as "yeah, Edge was so unpopular he got booed in his hometown." It's not accurate.

Edge was booed all the time last summer. During his match with Orton at Vengeance, the fans were chanting "Let's go Orton", and Orton was the heel. Then, at Summerslam, he was being booed by the 'bizarro' crowd, but he was facing Jericho of all people.

Thats why they turned Orton face cuz of one show.

anyhow the funny part of Summerslam was that it was in Edges hometown of Toronto, and he still got booed out of the building.

Shawn Michaels being booed by the New York crowd at Survivor Series '96. I think he might have been booed during his "lost smile" promo too.

Have you ever noticed how the annoucers always play up how MSG "loves" Shawn and has the heel he faces always cut an anti-MSG/New York promo before the match? It happens EVERY time he has a match there, too.

Anyway, I'll throw out Rocky Maivia. He received a ton of backlash from the fans for being "That 80's Babyface."

The MSG crowd popped pretty huge for HBK's win in the first Elimination Chamber at SurSer 02. Then again, when he did the spring up for his babyface comeback at WMXX, they booed the shit out of him, so make of that what you will.

Probably most of MSG was rooting for Benoit in the Wm match, especially since he had never won a world title before (outside of his WCW title quicky). It depends on who is in the crowd.

Its not a case of probably, its thats the reason why.

Honky Tonk Man when he debuted as a face in the WWF in 1986, he was heavily booed a lot, one match I remember is against Mr. X (Danny Davis who was doing his referee angle at the same time) of all people in Toronto, and the fans cheer everything Mr. X does!

What I remember from the WMXX match was the crowd booing Michaels when he did superkick-telegraphing-stomp, rather than the usual "crowd stomps along with Michaels" bit. Being an anti-Michaels guy, this amused me greatly.

I remember some times where Jeff Jarrett as a horseman hopeful in WCW in 96-97 during the hot NWO period getting booed even though the horsemen were faces at the time.

Also, Hogan was getting booed during the 92 Royal Rumble.

Well come on, is anyone really going to cheer for an Elvis-Impersonating Wrestler?

I guess he was a bit of a tweener by summerslam due to his tension with Jericho, but I mentioned that because it's rare to see a guy come out, announced from the hometown and get heavily booed. Very strange, but I guess Canada likes Jericho the most (despite the fact that he was born in the States)

Was Summerslam 90 in Philadelphia? That's the only reason I think the Rockers would get booed cause they seemed to be a fairly popular tag team.

Yes, it was. But still, they were kind of like the Hardy Boyz in that they were extremely popular among the female audience but significantly less so among the males. There were pretty popular but not anywhere close to as popular as the likes of Demolition, the Road Warriors, Steiner Brothers, etc.

Steamboat was booed in the late 80s early 90s in WCW, in part, for bringing his kid out with him, maybe his wife too.

You guys are definitly wrong on the Royal Rumble with Hogan, yes he got some small BOO'S. but he was the top face by far, his cheers were twice anybody elses, yes there were very small BOO'S but that isn't even a time to consider.

The rock got booed heavly during both matches he had with Hogan

X-Pac during his InVasion match against Kidman, when the whole WWE was supposed to be the face

I remember that too......The crowd went apeshit when Mongo McMichael turned on him and gave him the tombstone piledriver.

Honkey Tonk Man was such a flop as a face and booed so heavily that they had to turn it into an angle with HTM complaining about the fans lack of support, which led him to turn heel. I remember seeing his debut on TV, he wore these red pants with matching suspenders. The crowd killed him for the whole match.

Waylon Mercy got a lot of cheers gradually after his debut. Especially after he would put on that sleeper, let go when the ref called for the bell, and then he would kick the guy a few more times and shake the refs hand and smile afterwards. Awesome stuff, I still say that's my favorite gimmick of all time.

A heel can be over with the crowd. Look at Eddie when he was playing a heel, places used to cut nuts for him. But a heel is expected to be booed, Rock was a heel at the time, hence the booing.
