Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 I was watching that segment knowing that Jillian was gonna come in with the FAKE VOMIT FROM HADES attached to one side of her face and expected the segment to just flat out bomb because of that... but call me crazy, I was entertained by that segment. I pay attention to detail sometimes, and MNM's facial reactions to Jillian sold that segment to me. And some of the stuff they said to had me laughing (Nitro: "Is she a girl" and Mercury after seeing Jillian: "Would you?"). They got tons of charisma and the gimmick to me just WORKS. Deluded hollywood stars who name drop people left and right when they get a chance... and their entrance makes them LOOK like stars... but now they've got Jillian Hall and fake tumor/mole/fake vomit/uprising of the Aztecs in their camp now. Do you see MNM's future still being bright or will this hold them back and ruin them for their careers?
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 If you've seen any of their OVW out of the ring work, you'd see WWE is missing the boat on these guys. What you saw last night just scratched the surface of how entertaining they can be. Nitro really pulls off this male-airhead act that is gold. Mercury plays off that well and is the worker of this group in the ring. Melina is awesome in her role as the glue for them. As for Jillian, I just hope to God they have a surgery angle to get that stupid thing off her face once Creative realizes you can't run with that gimmick for more than a few weeks without it becoming very stale. As much as I hated this segment, the "would you?" line was gold. That gives me some hope for MNM, just not this angle.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted July 29, 2005 The Future of MNM, Doomed because of Jillian Hall? Nah, I'd say losing the tag titles to Hedeinreich and Animal did that.
Just John 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 Steph must think Melina is too fat, because MNM went from the best tag team in WWE to a joke in the course of a week. Losing the belts to Heidenreich and Animal was the death blow, and Jillian is just the icing on the rotten rice crispy. Sad to see MNM's comedic talents wasted trying to get an un-funny, Austin Powers ripoff joke over while LOD 2K5 retains their titles in 30-second jobber squashes. Karc 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 The problem with MNM (and why they were doomed from the start) is that the WWE considers Melina the bigger star, not the tag team. They always do this, and it NEVER works for the team, because then they come to the conclusion that the team sucks, when in truth the team is okay, maybe even great, but the marks have been told that the woman is more important, so that's who they root for. I mean, there's a list I can form off the top of my head. Sunny and the Body Donnas, Trish and T&A, Melina and MNM, Stacy and the superheroes. Out of those twelve, the four women are the biggest stars. If people are looking for a reason as to why tag teams don't matter in the WWE, there it is. They are used to get the women over. Everyone else can go hang.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 I remember in the old WWF No Mercy game on N64, for the three frames of animation for T&A's Titantron video, Trish Stratus dominated three of them. That sent a message right there, pretty much. You're right...WWE always makes the valet/manager the focal point, and ends up forgetting about the team, then breaking up or firing them when they "fail to get over". What a bunch of fucking bullshit. Dammit Vince, quit fucking things up or hire someone to do a better job with the booking, you asshole.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 All I know is that Jillian Hall thing last night on Smackdown was one of the worst ideas for a "gimmick" I've ever seen in WWE in many many years. It wont get over and having her attached to MNM is just going to hurt them overall. I seriously can't believe that was actually greenlit as a gimmick. I can't imagine anyone backstage even finding that humerous and/or interesting. Just a ridiculously bad gimmick they are going with her and the storyline with her and MNM already has become a joke a week in. Can anyone fill in what Jillian Hall was all doing down in OVW? Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 When I heard that she was going to have a "mole" on her face, I was picturing a slightly exagerrated Cindy Crawford type thing, not a gigantic alien face-sucker thing. I think I'd rather review the close ups of Rikishi's ass from WWF in 1998, rather than see more of those close ups from last night. Seriously, do they think close ups of something that gross is going to get more ratings? I think WWE is getting close to the masturbatory booking of Vince Russo in WCW, where they just put stupid shit on TV to get a laugh for themselves, not caring what the audience thinks. Guest carnage Report post Posted July 29, 2005 My opinion is that Melina is great, as are MNM...but for whatever reason the WWE has no concept of how to handle tag teams. Outside of the Dudleys...who they stupidly released...the WWE has a great reputation for busting up good tag teams or foolishly ruining them. I agree MNM could be terrific...but the lame ass mole image is just stupid.
Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 Damn, you beat me to it. I was gonna say, as soon as Jillian finally steps into the ring, eventually the thing is bound to fall of her face, and well, there goes the gimmick right there. Of course then they'll turn it into some 'oh my god, its a miracle' thing. I for one, obviously love MNM. And like some said, their facial expressions and manneurisms are just awesome, and they do their gimmick well. Johnny Nitro > *. I dont think the Jillian thing will ruin them for that reason. They're still a good team, and, in a few weeks, I'm betting the gimmick'll be over. She'll probaly turn on them or something stupid like that. I'd hit it. Her face..and not to mention her boobs, look way to plastic for me. And I'm not even talking about the thing on the side of her face. Melina isn't even that hot (As shown by the pics from when she had the I guess..boxer gimmick) But there's something about her that makes her sexy as hell. I'd definitely take that over Jillian. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 Jillian toiled in OVW for years without a contract, and much like Dinsmore made a big sacrifice (in his case, choosing to play a retarded man, in her case, getting breast enhancement and I believe a nose job) in order to get noticed. She finally does so, and THIS is what they give her? Oh, and Melina being the "star" of MNM is pretty similar to how it was in OVW. A lot of angles were built around her (Ken Doane putting up his car for a night with her, etc.).

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 I don't see the big deal about MNM. They're just a new version of the Hardy Boyz, but without the spotfests. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I keep maintaining that they should put together a babyface cruiser spotfest tag team ala Hardys, and I think MNM would be the perfect Midnight Express to my imaginary face team's RNR Express. MNM aren't big enough to be threatening to, say, HHH, but they're big enough to believably toss around cruisers and punishingly beat them down because they look pretty big next to Paul London. But WWE seems to continue to insist that cruisers exist in their own little universe fighting over a meaningless singles title, when WCW only managed to strike anything resembling gold when they got to 3Count VS Jung Dragons with a third team thrown into the rotation at times to keep you awake. Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 I don't understand all of the love for MNM either. I must say that I have only seen their work in WWE though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well here's my take on it. People, in recent memory have of course complained about the WWE tag team division, and I'm not just talking about what's going on now, with there being pretty much no one, and the Dudz being 'fired' etc., But even back when Kidman/London were partnered up and then broken up for no reason, pretty much the tag division has sucked. The main reason I've seen people say is that WWE just...well partners random people up. There are no real teams anymore...well, MNM are just that. From the start, they came up as a team, and they epitomize (I believe is the word >_>) what a real team is. They have that classic, dress alike/act alike connection going on, and in the ring, they aren't to bad at all. Granted, I will agree that since being on SD Im sure they haven't had the chance to pull out there best stuff, but they still have moves that stick out, and can get the fans going, such as The Snapshot...which is a credible finisher, and I love the little 'take picture' motion Mercury does before it. I also love Nitro's sort of..spinaroonie leg drop, even though he's only done it on a few occasions. They also have great charisma just from the WWE stuff they've done most notably last night. I have to say I loved the Nitro pointing at her face (well about to) then Mercury hit his hand, that was great. I just think overall they're what a team should be. Not someone like...Animal & Heidenreich, who win the titles because of circumstance.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 I could see the rehired Noble (downhome country boy) and Spanky (dorky sidekick type) forming a team to feud with them. Noble and Spanky can be the bickering but effective face duo, and their personalities would be the polar opposites of Nitro and Mercury.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 Well I get the entire thing about them being a "real" tag team, something that we almost never get. I just don't see anything special about them in the ring. When I see them on TV, I see any number of tag teams that I have seen at local indie shows. I just don't see anything special about them in the ring. I want tag teams once again as much as the next guy. I miss the days of when the tag team straps actually meant something. Where guys would spend the majority of their careers being a member of a tag team, and only after a succesful tag team career, then would they move on to singles, never to really go back to the tag division. I miss the oldschool psychology of working a tag match also. The constant tags, cutting the ring in half, and all of that. Where I will give MNM credit is that they seem to have a basic handle on those last two points. Even in their match at the last PPV where they lost their straps, they were doing the constant tags for a while, cutting the ring in half keeping the other guy from making the tag, and it was looking good. They just need some more meat to their offense before I'll really be able to jump on board with them. Another reason I'm not too high on them, as mentioned by other people before me, is Melina. The gimmick of MNM isn't even about the tag team. It's just another example of WWE putting these cookie-cutter dime-a-dozen "divas" over the teams they are actually put with. I'll never understand why WWE pulls this bullshit. I know that Nitro can be entertaining as hell at least, so why in the world wont they let him, or his partner, do too much more than making faces in the back while Melina speaks? I like the look of MNM, I really do. I think they have a lot to offer the tag ranks that we haven't seen in a very long time, but as long as Melina, or some other woman, is with them, the focus will not be on the guys who really matter in my eyes. Speaking of Melina, I don't even think that gal is anything special at all. Ok, so she does a split type thing getting in the ring, YAY! Her mic work is ok I guess, but her looks don't really do anything much for me at all. There is just something about her face that really turns me off of her. Then we have yet ANOTHER bitch a part of this team, doing nothing but taking the attention off of the actual WRESTLERS. I am not about to get into everything I feel about this new factor, or I just might explode. Also, I think their gimmick "as is" is just too over the top. Please stop with the name dropping and all of that week after week. I hate that they are trying to play their gimmick off as totally real. What they should have done, had they wanted to go with the same entrance and everything, is have it be reveled at the very start of their run that Melina pays those photographers and everything to follow them around. It would have been a lot cooler to me if their gimmick was that they wanted to be Hollywood so much, that they paid people to follow them around and all of that, and they actually started believing that what they are pretending, is real. So, adding in that I don't see too much in MNM in the ring right now (which is more than likely not even their fault, almost everyone in WWE needs more meat added to their offense) to the fact that I am sick and fucking tired of women in wrestling being pushed instead of the wrestlers (Lita, you whore, I'm looking at you, as much as I hate Edge, it should be Kane vs. EDGE, not Kane vs. Lita!!!!!!). My hatred for quite a few things in wrestling today grows by the week. Then again, I guess seeing a character debut of a bitch with a pile of dog shit on the side of her face will do that to a guy. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 Call me crazy but I think there is something you can do with this Jillian angle. It'd be a silly angle but what else could it be? Once this Animal/Heidenreich stuff is done, MNM need to wrestle a duo where one guy falls in love with Jillian despite the MOLE. It can lead to a big falling out between Melina and Jillian (Melina being baffled as to why anyone would like Mole Girl), Jillian can join the other team, etc. Obviously during this Jillian would get the mole removed and thus be unveiled in a new hot persona. This can lead to a decent tag feud, some 1 on 1 women's matches, even 6 person matches. Thing is, I have no idea who I'd have as the other team...though Spanky seems weird enough to go for a chick with a huge mole.
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 Wow, you sound very, very bitter at all females there. This mole crap is stupid, but Melina is good for the team. A good valet is something we haven't had since maybe Sunny. It's refreshing to see a female being so good at her character. This "bitch", as you so eloquently put it DH, helps the team with their mimbo and superficial gimmick. To say she's a dime a dozen is pretty laughable, since she is actually interesting. I'll take her over any of the girls on Smackdown, and the girls on Raw except for Trish and Victoria. If a girl isn't going to wrestle, they should be in the position that Melina is. There is a female problem (oops, I mean "bitch" problem. Sorry DH!) in WWE, without a doubt. It's hilarious that you're ragging on the one that is in the best role a female can be in though.
