MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Orioles are losing again, only 1-0 though, but that 1 run seems like 10.
treble Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 FINALLY the Jays make up a game on somebody. I still think they're too far out (4 1/2 back of Oakland), but there's still lots of baseball to be played. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 4.5 seems so much closer than 5.5, though.
CanadianChris Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 True that. The big thing is they're only 1.5 back of the Yankees, who are looking extremely vulnerable right now, for second place. If they can get to where there's only one team ahead of them, all bets are off.

I ripped it off blatantly from Loose Cannon, albeit with his permission. TWINS WIN A FUCKING GAME! As a Jays fan, it came at the right time.
KingPK Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Wow....that was just a horrible play by the Cubs. Why didn't the catcher just step on the plate for the force? I knew the Jays were going to make some noise in the race this year. They're meeting the Yankees soon, I think, so they've got a shot at passing them. They scare me a bit, since the Sox haven't been able to beat them lately for some reason.
Guest SpiderFan Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Jay's go against the Yanks this weekend, actually. I fully believe they can take 2 from them, with Chacin going Friday, and Leiter scheduled to start Sunday's game. Especially if Halladay makes his return on Sunday.
CanadianChris Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Halladay reported some pain in his leg after throwing a simulated game the other day, and won't be back until next week at the earliest. If Bush can keep throwing the way he has been lately, though, they'll still be in decent shape. Of course, now I've jinxed them, but what the hell.
Gert T Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Wow, looks like Macias could have stolen that GS away from Abreu. Oh well, 4-0 Phillies.
Vern Gagne Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Damn Felix Hernandez was born in 1986. That's kind of scary.
KingPK Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Well, you can scratch Jason Varitek off the list of "Guys Who Have Never Hit a Grand Slam". Damn does the Royals pitching suck.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Wow, looks like Macias could have stolen that GS away from Abreu. Oh well, 4-0 Phillies. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's all just empty numbers anyway.
fairtoflair7 Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Great job Randolph...way to run a solid bullpen...overwork your 40 year set up man 4 days in a row during the hottest week of the year.......

EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 There's a full thread devoted to Mazzilli.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Watching the Braves/Reds on TBS. It's amazing what the Braves organization has done over the last 15 years. No organization has enjoyed as much success bringing up young talent. This year they've produced Jeff Francouer, and rather than having him sit in favor of washed up veterans like Raul Mondesi, the Braves jettisoned the dead weight and Bobby Cox plays him. The Braves bring in young players one or two at a time, trust them to produce, and the on-field results are clear. And what's truly scary about it all is that no team in their division looks better going forward over the next few seasons.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 I refuse to believe Mazzili was the reason the Os were in such a funk, but its crazy how improved the team became just from getting him out of there, but this team wouldn't have won like they did today even last night, so maybe it is.
NoCalMike Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 A's take the series from the Twins 3-1, and the Angels lose again, so their AL West lead is back down to one game.

Guest Smues Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 When will they let LaRoache be the everyday starter at first base? When Julio stops producing. Or dies of old age. Whatever comes first.
The Czech Republic Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Can't they play LaRoche in the outfield, rather than Langerhans? If that worked, that'd be ideal.

UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Al, Abreu did well today. I give him props. Hit a meaningful big-time home run. Even ESPN had the "At bats without a HR" meter on during the highlights, though. So they knew he was slumping. But he did good today.
Bruiser Chong Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 If he hadn't done so well in the derby, ESPN wouldn't be giving Abreu's slump any kind of attention. Even great players slump. It's stupid to judge a player's ability by a lone month of stats.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 I wasn't judging his ability. Just considering him overrated, full of hollow numbers, a stat monkey, and non-clutch. I don't wanna argue about it. I've given reasons for those, and they are my opinion. Maybe he can keep it up and make me happy. They're got 3 with the Brewers, who they play well against, so we'll see. They've got a TOUGH September, though, if they make it to where the games matter.

C Dubya 04 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Just wanted to jump in here with two quick things on the Phillies. Abreu gets shit on all the time around this city for the things UTSH is mentioning, and I don't think that it is fair to him at all. If you actually look at his stats, they are about the same in all situations (runners in scoring position, late in games, late in close games, etc.). I think that he got shit on by 610 and people picked up on it, and now you remember the bad. If you think about it, someone who fails 2 out of every 3 times is considered very good in baseball, so it is easy for people to find examples of Bobby getting out in clutch situations and they stick in your mind. Now, on the other hand I don't always get the feeling that he is giving it his all in the outfield. It might just be that he's not the greatest fielder ever, but that is where my problems with Bobby come from, not anything he does at the plate. The other Phillies point that I don't think has been mentioned here, is that by doing nothing, the Phillies have given Ed Wade a 2 year contract extension. Unbelievable to me. He has made maybe 2 good trades during his time here, the team has not made the playoffs once and he hired the worst manager I've seen in a long time (well, not that long since we've had our share). What is it going to take to get Wade out of here?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 When will they let LaRoache be the everyday starter at first base? When Julio stops producing. Or dies of old age. Whatever comes first. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> LaRoche is fourth on the team in games and at bats. The Braves have a nice platoon going, and if Julio's putting up even better numbers, there's nothing wrong with that.
Fökai Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 I wasn't judging his ability. Just considering him overrated, full of hollow numbers, a stat monkey, and non-clutch. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Uh-oh. ...and what the fuck is a stat monkey?
