Paul Londons Promo On Velocity *spoilers*

Recommended Posts

Velocity is showing here at the moment, and the match with Nunzio was alright, nothing special.

But his promo afterwards was just plain weird. Talking about taking everyone on a march to WWE Headquarters with him to get "my... errr our WWE Crusierweight Championship back".

So it looks like he's turning heel, afterwards he got booed pretty heavy too.

I just watched it as well, and I'm not sure that the promo indicates that he's turning heel, but it's certainly taken the 'serious' edge off of his character. I guess WWE won't be satisfied until every wrestler is turned into a cartoonish caricature? Whatever happens, I'm sure London's 'march' to WWE HQ will be confined to Velocity and never see the light of day on SD.

The London vs Nunzio match was decent enough. Btw, how is it that we in Australia get both Heat and Velocity so much earlier than in USA, but SD is delayed several hours and Raw is delayed about 36 hours (granted, Raw's live in USA but I don't see why we can't have it screened sooner)?

The crowd certainly believed that was a heel turn from the boos. I guess the mine our thing seemed arrogant to them.

Well, for anyone who wants to see it later, it's at 7 PM ET due to Ultimate Fight Night. I'll definitely check it out.

how many people would be angry if this ends up with London doing skits like Jericho's Cruiserweight march on WCW headquarters?

I don't think London has the comedic chops for that.

At a guess, the boos are probably canned. I doubt anyone cares that much about London.

I was in the crowd foer this show, and while it's possible they put in some canned heat to make it sound louder, the boos were legit. It seemed to me though that the boos were not so much because he seemed to be turning heel, but more of a "STFU you whiny crybaby" kind of heat.

If that's the case, then it may only be a matter of time before Cena gets a "Cena sucks!" chant every time he talks on the mic in a few months or has a match.

It looks like the WWE fans are seeing how bland/annoying WWE's face characters are now.

I dunno. He's not the same type of funny that Jericho is, but London strikes me as the guy with the incredibly random humour. You know, like that friend you know who can make a boring night fun again by doing something pretty stupid and random...

The one time London did comedic mic work in ROH, it was actually better than most people would have expected. He was playing de facto heel in a feud against AJ Styles and did this promo where he spoke alongside a mop that was supposed to be Styles (the angle was London/Styles were supposed to team up to go after the tag titles, London got sick and missed two shows they were supposed to team on, Styles found a replacement and they won the titles on one of those shows, leaving London feeling abandoned).

It actually was WCW Jericho in nature and exectued well. It was better than it sounds.

What's the deal?  Did he lose the Cruiserweight title and I didn't notice, or...?

Well since the thread is already marked for spoilers to begin with, London loses the belt to nunzio in the opening match on Velocity tonight.

Well, except for one...three H's, I mean, guesses as to who I'm referring to...

I saw it. I wouldn't say it turns into a cartoonish caricature. It just made him seem really rediculous, in a good way. It looks like a heel turn like Jericho's in 1998, if anything. The beginning was nothing much, but when he said "help me get my... err, I mean... OUR title back", it sounded like they really are turning him.

This had better lead to a series of videos of London single handedly protesting outside of WWE HQ, with all the random corporate people looking at him like he was crazy. Imagine London just picketing, then some intern starts walking to the entrance. London runs toward him and gets in his face with a mega phone. I'd love to see something like this lead to a heel turn. I mean let's face it, London has yet to really get over as a face. He gets pops for his high spots occasionally, but that's it. Give London some kind of character, even if it is whiny heel to start.

Hollywood Hulk Hogan?

I understand what you're saying. I just hope that if this new heel character turns out to be a success that WWE doesn't turn him into another John Cena or Rock later on by turning him into another catchphrase-spouting, play-to-the-crowd face with corny gestures ("You can't see me!", 5 Knuckle Shuffle, and "Just bring it!") and a 5-move moveset.

How does getting cheated out of your title make you a heel? That promo was indeed really weird.

anyhow, good thing I read this thread before so I made sure to see it. It's not often you see a title change on the bshows (infact this is the first ever title change on Velocity IIRC)

Technically Nunzio turned heel by cheating no?

or will the new FBI be faces?

Im confused

Perhaps they are turning him heel so he gets to hook the tights or ropes to finish an opponent now that his finisher has been "banned"

If they would only give London a guy like Ralphus as "the Head of London Security," I'd be sold on any storyline they want to do with him.

Why the fuck would they turn him heel on Velocity? That isn't exactly the show where you want to start an angle. If he just pops on Smackdown continuing this most people are going to be lost.

Then again, I doubt half the audience would even know he was the CW Champion if you asked them right now.

I remember right after the Brand Extension when it was still WWF and they made Jakked/Metal the Smackdown B-show before Velocity was made, The Godfather turned heel and everyone forgot about it a month later because it happened on Jakked/Metal.

Gahahaha, I remember that too. IIRC correctly it was the first Jakked of the brand extension (of course right here in Rochester, Smackdown! captial) and not only did Godfather turn unexpectedly; but Albert turned on Scotty too. I was yelling constantly during the Albert/Scotty match about the marks around me cheering for Albert for no reason other than being with Scotty; then he turned. I then kept yelling "WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR PRECIOUS ALBERT NOW?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
