I just heard on Cold Pizza, that the D-Rays are 18-11 since the break. I think that with a few more veteran pitchers they could be a .500..........................which of course, will never happen.

Huge series in the Wild Card Race, a 3 game set between Toronto and Anaheim(sorry, I won't say LA).

 

While Anaheim does have the AL West Lead, Oakland will win the division ultimately. With 3 teams between Toronto and Anaheim, this could shake the Wild Card Race up pretty substantially, especially since Toronto swept three weeks ago.

The Braves are praying that the Wild Card comes out of the East so as to set them up with the Padres.

 

Also, the DRays would be better just from having Rocco Baldelli in the lineup again, I'd reckon.

I really want the Yankees to get within at least 3 games this week. 3 games can be made up in a series, 4.5 not so much. If Boston drops 2 of 3 and we finally beat the shit out of the D-rays like we should of been doing all year, I can see us taking it from there. Boston's offense has been scary lately though so I don't see how Detroit is gonna take A game let alone 2. Hopefully this is the series where they go flat.

The Mets came awfully close in 1973, going 82-79, but no sub-.500 team has ever made the playoffs, and it's doubtful one will this year.

It seemed like the AL and NL west divisions were both awful in 1994 or 95. Didn't the Dodgers get in with a .500 type record in 1995?

Dodgers were close to .500 in the strike year but well above in 1995. I think the strike year was a little disceiving as a shorter season tends to allow extremes in these kind of things.

 

CanadianChris already pointed out the '73 Mets. The 1987 Minnesota Twins were the worst team record-wise to win a World Championship, going 85-77 in the regular season.

It should be pointed out the Twins ended the season on a long losing streak after they add already clinched the AL West. So had they needed to their record would probably of been better.

Here's how bad the A.L. West was that year in a nutshell: At the time of the strike they had the four worst teams in the entire American League. The last place Tigers and Brewers both were a half game better than the first place Rangers when the season was ended.

Yeah it's the Royals and all, but their lineup isn't all that terrible. Only the bottom third sports below-average batting average. It is their pitching that makes them truly awful. And having said that, holy god is Felix a stud.

The A's are melting down at home. The hot streak is OVER. Angels are going to be two up and the Yankees only a game and a half back. The terrible start is biting them in the ass as they just had so little margin of error even with the incredible run they were on. I really hope this doesn't all come crumbling apart.

 

Sorry I just don't accept this team playing this shitty at home. It just doesn't happen often.

Hopefully Hernandez doesn't turn out to be like Gooden off the field. He's got all the potential to win 300 games. That's way way into the future and alot of things can happen. However he could reach 100+ wins by the time he turns 25.

Exciting Jays/Angels game here. They've been trading the lead back and forth, and the Blue Birds couldn't capitalize with the bases jacked and 1 out. Bottom of 9 coming.
