SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 USA Weekend Box-Office Summary 19 August 2005 (Sunday Estimates) Rank Title Weekend Gross 1. The 40 Year-Old Virgin (2005) $20.6M $20.6M 2. Red-Eye (2005/I) $16.5M $16.5M 3. Four Brothers (2005) $13M $43.6M 4. Wedding Crashers (2005) $8.28M $178M 5. The Skeleton Key (2005) $7.4M $30.1M 6. March of the Penguins (2005) $6.68M $48.6M 7. Valiant (2005) $6.09M $6.09M 8. The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) $5.75M $68.8M 9. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) $4.54M $193M 10. Sky High (2005) $4.01M $50.8M http://www.imdb.com/chart/ I'm still shocked at how well "Wedding Crashers" (only first 2/3 was even remotely funny) and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (not terrible, but didn't live up to either the book or the original movie) are doing. But, hey, check out those Penguins marching away with some mad $$$.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 I think Valiant is the first flop computer animated movie since Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within. And I do believe it's the first flop that was meant for family audiences.

Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 What about ANTZ or Robots? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Antz made 120 million world wide (90 millin in the US) and Robots made 130 million in the US alone. They were even close to flops.
Dr. Zaius 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 Although I have no doubt "Antz" was a hit film, I cannot name one person I know who has seen it. Like "National Treasure", it is the hit movie no one wants to admit they saw.
Guest Smues Report post Posted August 21, 2005 Supercross made $1.3 million this weekend. OMG MEGA HIT!

Mik 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 You know why Wedding Crashers is succeeding so well? Parents LOVE it. My parents, and all the parents I know have gone to see it and have told others who have gone to see it. It's connecting with all audiences - not just the typical Vaughn/Wilson crowd. ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 Thoughts: Well, I guess that teaches Disney that they're fucked without Pixar. I'm so stoked that Steve Carell is starring in a #1 movie. Wow, Supercross sure is a huge success. I actually thought it would have made more money considering all the advertising. Then again, it got 2% on rottentomatoes.com... Wedding Crashers has some legs man. So does CATCF.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 A Bugs Life was better then Antz.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 Valiant (2005) $6.09M $6.09M According to IMDB, they spent $40 million on the movie. Apparently, none of the money went to advertizing it.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 Thoughts: Well, I guess that teaches Disney that they're fucked without Pixar. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Disney didn't really have anything to do with making it, they just bought the domestic distribution rights. A Bug's Life is a lot better then Antz, but Antz is still a good movie.
Sideburnious 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 Antz was better than a bugs life. And yeah i'm shocked at how well Wedding Crashers has done. Is it actually any good?
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 Antz was better than a bugs life. And yeah i'm shocked at how well Wedding Crashers has done. Is it actually any good? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not particularly. Its got a few really awesome lines and gags in it, but it completely falls apart 2/3 of the way into it, making way for the climax that manages to be a romantic comedy cliche while simultaneously making no sense whatsoever. I suspect the same people are seeing it over and over because the redhead was so fucking hot.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 I've seen maybe one add for Valiant. And Supercross just had bomb written all over it, extreme sports movies don't work...Grind? Extreme Ops?
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 I think this disproves what I was reading earlier about how movie studios were thinking they could get away with not spending as much advertising money on tv/print and shifting more towards the net. I hadn't seen one preview for Red Eye or Valiant.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 I've seen tons of TV ads for Red Eye. One for Valiant, but that was during a Law and Order, oddly enough.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 None of you watch the shows that Valiant's audience is geared towards. So of course you're not going to see any ads for it.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 Yeah, Bob's right. I've seen millions of ads for Valiant because my kid watches his shows and the ads come on during then.
the max 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2005 I see a lot of ads for Valiant during SVU reruns on USA. Probably two or three per show.
Guest JMA Report post Posted August 21, 2005 And yeah i'm shocked at how well Wedding Crashers has done. Is it actually any good? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's very good. The whole "romantic" ending was kind of cliché, but it doesn't hurt the overall film at all. Vaughn and Wilson have some amazing chemistry, and that comes through clear in both the previews and the movie itself. All the other actors and actresses in the film are "on" as well. I'd definitely recommend seeing it. Yet as good as Wedding Crashers is, The 40 Year-Old Virgin is even better. I'm happy to see Steve Carell is in the number one movie in the country right now--he deserves it.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2005 What is Valiant about? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Same thing as Chicken Run except this time they are messenger pigeons. Why would a 10 year old kid want to see a war movie?
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2005 11 Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo $3,600,000/$17,175,000 12 Must Love Dogs $2,315,000/$39,102,000 ----------- Why anyone thought there was money to be made with another Deuce Bigalow is beyond me.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2005 I thought that Valiant movie was coming out in a couple of weeks, since I only saw an advert for it on Wednesday. Didn't pay attention to the date, I guess.
