KingPK 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2005 On Thursday night, the 2005 NFL season kicks off as the Raiders play the Patriots in Foxboro. Use this thread to discuss that and all the other games of week 1.
Just John 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Patriots win easily on Thursday. I understand the logic of putting the SB champs in the opening game, but the Raiders? The Patriots have games against the Colts and Steelers, so why Oakland gets this spot is beyond me. Well, actually, I have a pretty good idea, but I'd like to think there's a better reason than "They got Randy Moss." I am interested in the Colts/Ravens, Eagles/Falcons, and Chiefs/Jets games. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Eagles/Falcons would have been the better opening game. I hope the Bears are able to kick off on a good note with Kyle Orton under center.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Wasn't this the AFC championship game 3 times in the past 5 years?
Gert T 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Nope they played in the Divisional in the Snow Game. Pats played Steelers, Colts, Steelers in their 3 SB runs. Raiders played Tennessee I believe when they went to the SB.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 I can't wait for next Sunday Night. The Ravens need to start off on the right foot with a win vs the Colts..
Sass 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Raiders vs. Patriots will always be a blood feud after the '01 playoffs. That is, until the Raiders beat the Pats in the playoffs and then go on to win the Superbowl. The Raiders would have beaten the Rams the year the Pats did in the SB. The "forward motion" call will always leave a bitter taste in Raiders fans mouths (mine included) since it prevented them from going to the SB.

therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Hopefully the Eagles shut Ron Mexico down again on MNF so I can gleefully watch Woody Paige backpedal from all of his statements about the Falcons on Cold Pizza the next day. Thank god it's Monday Night Football and not the Sunday Night crew doing the game...
fazzle 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 I'm hyped. I'm going up to Buffalo for the Bills' opener against the Texans. Hopefully they can win this one, as both openers I've gone to (01 against the Saints, and 04 against the Jags) have been losses.

Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Nevermind. HAHAHAHAHA Ron Mexico t-shirts http://www.cafepress.com/ronmexico Also, the new Blitz game (no NFL license) has a Falcons ripoff team (the Redhawks) with a QB named Ron Mexico. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3832438 And the NFL won't let fans make personalized Mexico jerseys. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7504682

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Redskins vs. Bears is what I will be watching, and I have to say I am feeling good about this game. True, the Bears are a better team then Washington faced last season, and with Grossman at the helm I'd say the Bears might have a slight edge, but are you seriously going to tell me that it is a safe bet to say Kyle Orton--Rookie-- is going to lead a team to victory against a Top 5 Defense, in his FIRST NFL START? I am not saying it CAN'T happen, but it is surely not something anybody would pick in a pick'em. My Skins should start out 1-0 going into a Week 2 Showdown with the archrival Cowboys on a night they are honoring the Triplets.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 but are you seriously going to tell me that it is a safe bet to say Kyle Orton--Rookie-- is going to lead a team to victory against a Top 5 Defense, in his FIRST NFL START? Joe Gibbs is just another legend for Orton to spit on......but seriously I expect 2 INTs, 3 fumbles, and a safety.

Fartsauce 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 It's nice to see some Bills fans in here. I'm so glad Drew Bledsoe is gone even if J.P lead us to a 4-12 record this year I won't be mad because Bledshit is in Dallas.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Looking forward to the Packers getting spanked at Detroit on Sunday! But fuck, it's still great to see the NFL back in action. November-January is usually the greatest time of the year in sports, since there's no baseball and we got football, basketball, and hopefully, hockey back this year. Hey, and I'm actually kinda starting to like the Dolphins, from living here and all. Guess I feel bad for them. I heard that Sage Rosenfels might actually get the start.. Hey, as long as it's anyone but A.J. Feeley. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with Gus Frerotte.

I think the only way the Bears win this is if we give it to them i.e. offense starts fucking up royally, etc. Things that could happen, just not sure if it will be enough for a Bears win. Guest Frank_Nabbit Report post Posted September 6, 2005 Looking forward to the Packers getting spanked at Detroit on Sunday! Lions starters failed to score a TD in all four preseason games... Packers can do just enough to eck this one else I think.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 Yeah, but they didn't play Packers D in any of those! Seriously though that should be an interesting game. Looks like in my neck of the woods we'll get Bears-Redskins on Fox & Bengals-Browns on CBS with Dallas-San Diego the afternoon game.

Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2005 Hopefully the Eagles shut Ron Mexico down again on MNF so I can gleefully watch Woody Paige backpedal from all of his statements about the Falcons on Cold Pizza the next day. Thank god it's Monday Night Football and not the Sunday Night crew doing the game... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hopefully the Falcons put the beat down on so Skip Bayless will shut the fuck up. I was just reading his article on ESPN about how he thinks Vick puts his running above winning, when he is, what, 24-11 as a starter and 2-2 in the playoffs. Anyone want to throw Peytons Playoff record in there?
Sass 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2005 Skip Bayless hates black people. Maybe... That said, Bayless is a shit disturber to the nth degree in sports "journalism" and loves hating on good or popular things just for the sake of it. He's horrible to listen to whenever I see his skin stretched face on ESPN. I'd love to heave a brick at him just once. I'm saying it again: Mike Vick and the Falcons are going to take their division. Let Mike run all day if he wants to just as long as the team wins in the end. Winning is what matters. Stats be damned. Ask Barry Sanders and Dan Marino how far stats can get you to winning a Superbowl. Mike can throw *and* run, which makes him a double threat to defenders. That's not a bad thing. "JUST WIN BABY!"
MrRant 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2005 I hope the Falcons don't win the division just because I don't like them or Michael Vick since they haven't proven themselves and I don't put Vick on the level of Culpepper or McNabb as a two feature threat (even though Culpepper and McNabb don't run as much as Vick but Vick doesn't throw as much as those two). Vick 321 passing attempts for 2313yds which is a 7.2yd avg. He also had 120 rushing attempts for 902yds with a 7.6yd avg Culpepper had 548 attempts for 4717yds which is a 8.6yd avg and 88 rushing attempts for 406yds with a 4.6yd avg McNabb had 469 passing attempts for 3875yrds which is a 8.26yd avg and 41 rushing attempts for 220yds with a 5.4yd avg. So if you add up offensive attempts you have totals of: McNabb - 8.02 yds per attempt Vick - 7.29yds per attempt Culpepper - 8.05yds per attempt. I'd be more worried about McNabb or Culpepper as they both average more offensive yards per attempt than Vick does so those two would be the better two weapon threat IMO. Sass 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2005 Touche Rant, touche. Culpepper's a freakin hoss. A lot of defense guys, top guys even, have stated how difficult it is to take down Dante since he's built like a DE (6'6", 270ish) and can bulldoze guys over if he wishes. The Vikings should let Dante run the ball in more often when it's like 2nd and goal or something. Just get that FAT FUCK offensive line of his to push on forward and let Culpepper run the damn ball into the endzone.
