CBright7831 Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 I know seven seasons of The Simpsons are currently out on DVD with eight on the way soon, and I'm thinking about buying some of the DVDs, and I want to know which Season would be the best to get/look foward to. If you pick Season 10-16 be sure to tell which season you picked. VOTE!
Zetterberg is God Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 The best stuff is found in seasons 4-8. Any one of those would be worth a purchase.
the max Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Widen that to 3-7. Season 3 is very underrated, I feel. It has such classics as "Homer Defined", "Flaming Moe's", "Homer at the Bat", and "Separate Vocations".
Kahran Ramsus Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Season 5. "Boy Scoutz N The Hood", "Cape Feare", "Homer Goes to College", "Deep Space Homer", "Rosebud", "$pringfield", "The Boy Who Knew Too Much", "Homer and Apu", "Homer the Vigilante", and "Burns' Heir" are some of the best episodes ever produced. You don't find this type of quality across the board in any other season.
ZGangsta Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 I voted for 5, but I'll collect every season from 3-9. 9 has a few good episodes (the New York one stands out) but is obviously the decline of the series. But the peak of the series is seasons 4-7. Everything past 10 I can't stand to watch. But I might add, the episode that aired 'between' seasons 9 and 10, where Lisa Kudrow plays a new student that Lisa befriends, is hillarious. But that's mostly for the awesome Bart/Homer grease collecting subplot.
Guest The Iron Yuppie Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 I voted for season four, on the strength of "Last Exit to Springfield" and "Whacking Day", though you can't really go wrong with most of seasons 3-8.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 But the ball! The groin! It worked on so many levels! I gotta go with Season 6 here. Maybe it's just fresh in my mind since I recently got the DVD, but God, I forgot how great some of this stuff was. Unlike some guys here, I don't mind Lisa episodes, and Lisa's Wedding was a pretty damn good episode in my eyes. And Homer Badman may be my favorite episode of all time. It's either that or Marge vs. The Monorail.
the max Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Lisa's Wedding? Good lord, that was the worst episode of that season.
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Season 3 is probably the best "storytelling" season of the Simpsons. This is when they were trying to mix together more "adult" stories (not adult in the way they do today with "adult topics" like porn, but stories that would appeal to adults) with humour, rather than being a straight comedy. Less gags, more substance and has some legitimately touching moments. Very re-watchable in that regard. Notable episodes: "Homer at Bat" (Top 10 of all time), "Black Widower" (Sideshow Bob marries Selma), "Bart the Lover" (with Mrs. Krabapple), "Separate Vacations" (Bart goes good, Lisa goes bad). "Homer Alone" (Marge goes to Rancho Relaxo), "Radio Bart" (Timmy gets stuck in the well feat. the all-time classic "Sending our Love down the well"), "Flaming Moes" (top 15 episode), "Bart the Murderer" (Bart gets a job with the mob), "Treehouse of Horrors II" "...that's bad". All in all, a very solid season with some great high points. You can't go wrong with Season 3.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 I've been watching season two again lately, and I've been surprised how good some of those episodes are as well.
Annabelle Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 did anyone get the alternate box for season 6? did they order it? how much did ti cost? does it look nice. please elaborate. i downright refuse to buy the set with that godawful looking plastic piece of shit. i really like season 6. its sorta the end of the simpsons greatness. well, maybe season 7. but thats as far as this guy will go.
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 While Season 3 is a top season, the two Seasons that compete for the #1 spot are Season 4 and 5. These seasons are not only the best in the shows history, but some of the best television ever. Season 4 is where the Simpsons goes into 1000 laughs territory, and sorta drops the moral lessons of the first few seasons. Homer gets more whacky, but his goofery doesn't become as overwhelming as it does in later seasons. This season is absurdly quotable and has 2 amazing episodes plus the greatest quote -IMO- in Simpsons history. A Streetcar Named Marge (Top 5 episode of all time) Homer The Heretic (Another top 5 episode) Treehouse Of Horror III ("Dad! You killed Zombie-Flanders!" "He was a zombie?" !!!!!)
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Season 5 probably is the best season, going by the amount of quality episodes. I mean, it has Homer-goes-to-College, Deep Space Homer, Treehouse of Horror IV (Bart Simpsons Dracula~!), and Boy Scoutz in da Hood... these are top 10-ers, with the first two being in my top 5. A few weeks ago Curry and I were watching some of this on DVD (and we've seen these episodes well over 20 times each), and IT WAS STILL HILARIOUS. I don't mean just "funny". I mean HILARIOUS. Laugh-out-loud-until-your-face-turns-read, hilarious.
Jericholic82 Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 I voted for 5, but I'll collect every season from 3-9. 9 has a few good episodes (the New York one stands out) but is obviously the decline of the series. Its hard for me to vote for a specific season as I dont know all of which episdoes were in which season

Cost is something like $2.75 to cover shipping.
Annabelle Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 anyone reckon that fox will just release a normal box for normal people to buy without sending away for it?
cbacon Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 Depends on how high the demand is for the new boxes. For best season, i'll go with Season 6, slightly over Season 5. Treehouse of Horror V, Homie the Clown, Homer the Great, Grandpa vs. Sexual Inadequacy and probably my all time favorite, Homer Badman help to clinch it. And for the fact it has my favorite joke in the entire series, that being Hans Molemans "I was saying 'boourns'" line in A Star is Burns.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 Lisa's Wedding? Good lord, that was the worst episode of that season. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nah. Round Springfield and the clip show were much worse. I liked the future gags in there. I don't know why the episode gets a lotta hate. And I don't know how the fuck I forgot about Boy Scouts N the Hood. That's right up there in my top 5 of best ever. SQUISHEE SPREE!
Placebo Effect Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Lisa's Wedding? Good lord, that was the worst episode of that season. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nah. Round Springfield and the clip show were much worse. I liked the future gags in there. Remember that time I hid a gun from you? That time I sued the church? Or when I ruined Lisa wedding in the future? Remember?"

the max Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 I've always hated "Flash to the Future" episodes. At least with clip shows, it's to save on animation money/labor. The future episodes are lame. Lisa's Wedding was atrocious. The only redeeming joke that came from the Indian Casino episode was Ned giving Bart money "only because you haven't outed Rod and Todd."

Spaceman Spiff Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 I think they were refinishing some furniture, actually.
Damaramu Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 I don't know what seasons they're on but I like: -Kamp Krusty(my fav episode ever) -The Radioactive Man Movie -Homer Bad Man(which i NEVER see in syndication) What season are all of these from? I know they're different seasons but yeah....
Vampiro69 Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 I am a big supported of the following episodes Homer at the Bat (3) Radio Bart (3) Dead Putting Society (2) Homer the Great (6) Mr. Plow (4?) Sideshow Bob Roberts (I am a Republican but those jokes are great and is my fav from season 6) There are great ones sprinkled throughout the seasons that I know I am forgetting.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted September 17, 2005 Report Posted September 17, 2005 I have seen all the episodes, though I'm not too familiar on the names...which one is Homer Badman?
