Cheech Tremendous Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Why not have J.R. "retire"? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, why not just do like, at the end of Raw, instead of ending with a cliffhanger like they usually do (I think), just have the last match end, have the lights at the stage turn off, and just show Ross saying that he's decided to call it quits after 20some years of announcing, it's been a pleasure, thanks for inviting me into your home each week, I wish Raw the best, so long, we'll see each other again on this long dusty trail of life. It doesn't have to be "YOU'RE FIIRED BLAARRRGH!!!" every damn time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Like the WWE would do something that classy.

Also, I don't understand the part about Lawler in the report. At one point, they say he's going to be let go. Then at another point, it says he'll join JR on the Web. Well, which is it?
Downhome Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Let go in terms of his RAW job is how I read it.
Jericholic82 Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 They should get rid of the King while they are at it. I was cringing while he was mentioning puppies during the Bra and Panties match. The guy acts like it is still 1999. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What I like is how he acts like he coined the phrase when it was Road Dogg that originally said it on WWF TV. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dear Cbright HEY HEY YOURE NOT SUPPOSED TO REMEMBER THAT PLEASE CEASE AND DESIST OR WE WILL SUE YOU!!!!! WWE back to topic, maybe JR is tired of it and wants a change. I wouldnt mind a new team. Coach I like, perhaps they can get Dusty to be the new color man? (CLUBBERIN COACH, THEY BE CLUBBERIN)
Vern Gagne Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 It's been mentioned before. Bring Jericho back to fill the Mr.Perfect roll.
Guest xad Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 It's sad that they had to take someone from UFC, they could have hired someone new and knowlegeable about the product. I kind of liked the joe rogan/golderg team, but as long as rogans still on UFC commentating, its all good
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 To be fair to Goldbreg, there are -at least- a million gracies involved in MMA. Granted, Carlson Gracie is one of the bigger ones, but he could have easily said "Renzo Gracie". http://bjj.org/tournaments/ufc32-20010629/...ers_995x644.jpg Here's a pic of Goldberg, for those who haven't seen him (middle).
CanadianChick Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Huh, this really is to snub UFC then, because he ain't a pretty boy at all.
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Well, who would be standing next to Frank Shamrock?
Styles Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Well, who would be standing next to Frank Shamrock? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Frank Shamrock should be the new RAW announcer.
Downhome Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Is this guy considered the main guy in the booth for UFC? Thanks for the picture though.
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Shamrock and Blatnick and Tazz. Blatnick and Tazz get into it every time someone does a suplex. "A nice suplay by Kurt Angle there" "You mean suplex, Jeff" "No Tazz, I mean suplay. That's the proper way to say it." "Oh no brutha, I think you mean suplex. All these years, I aint been doin Tazzplays..." "Well maybe you have" Frank: "Will you two cut it out." Both: "Yessir".
ChrisMWaters Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Mike Goldberg's look reminds me of two people. Kevin Kelly. And... Mike Nelson (center one )
RavishingRickRudo Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Goldberg directs the flow of traffic, so to speak, so he is the main guy. He calls moves, shills, but rarely provides insight or anything technical. That job is up to Joe Rogan (being fed lines by Eddie Bravo, I assume), who actually does a good job -imo- in that role. Though, Goldberg did offer up one of the more memorable lines in MMA history with "Ruttens taken over, Ruttens taken over!". Goldberg and Rogan are my favourite announce team goin right now, and are far superior to Ross and King, or Tazz and Cole. I think Goldberg is better than JR, but being unfamiliar (to the fans) is going to really hurt him because he comes off as a "regular announcer" - with the voice, the fake smile and enthusiasm.
Spaceman Spiff Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Frank Shamrock looks like he could pass as Josh Matthews' older brother (at least in that pic, any way).
Guest xad Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 I just read that apparently UFC has matched what WWE was offering Goldberg, which is $500,000. He was apparently getting $100,000 on his current UFC contract. *edit* source: fightsport
Guest xad Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Talk about overpaid. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> even more so when you take into consideration what some of the fighters/competitors get paid.
CBright7831 Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Mike Nelson (center one ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Come to think of it, why not have Mike, Tom, and Crow be the new announcers for RAW?

The Czech Republic Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 JIM ROSS, YAAAR FIAAAARRRARR! Here's your replacement... ...MIKE GOLDBERG! (oh?)
Guest Brian Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 I just read that apparently UFC has matched what WWE was offering Goldberg, which is $500,000. At least not when it comes to UFC at this point.
Guest JesusJuiced Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 The move is to get Ross off TV because they don't think he's good looking enough. It's stupid, but it has been the company mindset and it explains why the announcing generally is so bad. - Meltzer http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/f...t.asp?aID=14442 HA!
Dobbs 3K Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Well, if that's the case, maybe they'll make like, Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson the new announcers...

Guest I miss Test. Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Goldberg is still doing college football on FSN this week, so looks probable the rumor that its him, is false.

Seriously, you see them like a combined 1 minute each show.
Vern Gagne Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Goldberg is still doing college football on FSN this week, so looks probable the rumor that its him, is false. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So what. Jim Ross did games for the Atlanta Falcons, while he worked for WCW.
