res37618 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 I was watching the WWF back in 1991, but I don't remember how these two split up? Can someone refresh my memory? How were the matches/feud, etc? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If I remember correctly, the actual split/face turn for Virgil occured at Royal Rumble '91 after he was pinned in a tag match with Dusty and Dustin Rhodes. The turn had been teased for a couple of months prior with Virgil becoming increasingly tired and irritated with DiBiase's treatment of him, and it was inferred that DiBiase was taking care of Virgil's mother and/or family in return for Virgil's services. I "think" that's right, anyway.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 Additionally, Roddy Piper had been interfering for awhile on Virgil's behalf to try and get him to stand up for himself. Dibiase & Virgil won the match, BTW. It was afterward that Virgil turned when Dibiase started treating him like dirt.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 They had done vignettes for at least two months with DiBiase making Virgil do menial tasks (cleaning his toes, wiping shit off his boots, etc.), with DiBiase reminding Virgil about his family (very vaguely) when Virgil began to take a stand. At the Rumble, DiBiase asked Virgil to put the million dollar belt around his waist, and Virgil dropped it. DiBiase said "Need I remind you about your family...about your mother?" Virgil dropped to his knees to pick up the belt, then glommed DiBiase with it to a monster pop. Unfortunately, Virgil's heat fizzled once the feud ended. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2005 That's because he was like Danny Davis, the wrestler-turned-heel ref-turned wrestler. He was rather undersized, nothing in his moveset to really catch your eye, and an average wrestler at best. There wasn't anything to do with him once that feud against DiBiase ended, and so he fell by the wayside. That one banner I saw with him was funny and sad at the same time. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2005 Virgil was pretty over in 91. after the dibiase thing ended, he ha dnothign to do, but I always remember him getting good pops on tv(probably canned) and even on ppvs. I agree on the summerslam markout moment. I was going crazy as a young mark (also that night Nret and LOD won titles so it was a great night for me )

Guest Stunt Granny Report post Posted October 8, 2005 While on the subject of DiBiase, I was wondering (while at work today) how did he become so weathly in storyline terms? Did he own a business in his off-wrestling time? Did he inheiret it? Whats the deal?
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Report post Posted October 8, 2005 The Virgil/Dibiase clash at Royal Rumble 93 got a pop then as well.
BruiserKC 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2005 One correction here...Virgil and DiBiase beat the Rhodes' at that Royal Rumble '91 match as that was the blow-off of that feud. DiBiase pinned Dustin if I remember right, per Dustin was on his way out to the NWA/WCW.

Did he own a business in his off-wrestling time? Did he inheiret it? Whats the deal? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There was never a storyline explanation, he just showed up in vignettes talking about how he was fithy rich and everyone had a price. The annouuncer ignored his history as a wrestler and acted liek he was really a wrestling millionare. Actually the vignettes (paying a lifeguard to kick everyone out of the pool, paying a hotel manger to kick a couple out of their room) was mixed with the live arena stunts (kid pouncing the basketball, paying Linda McMahon to bark like a dog, paying Rob Van Dam to kisss his feet). When he showed up I was 7 years old and knew he had been plain old Ted DiBiase in Mid-South wrestling, but he was so good with the character that I never cared about any logic gaps in the character. Dusty did commentary with JR for Wrestle War 91 and that was 4 weeks after the WWF PPV.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2005 How did Dustin get on camera and into the RR 91 match? And Virgil?
EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2005 How did Dustin get on camera and into the RR 91 match? And Virgil? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's been awhile but, this is what I remember. In 1990 Dusty (with Sapphire) was fueding with Randy Savage (with Sherri). Well at Summerslam Dusty was going to face Savage and Sapphire was going to wrestle Sherri. The thing is the women's match never happened cause Ted Dibiase came out and it showed that everyone had a price because cause Sapphire had turned heel joined up with him cause of his money (or something like that). Then sometime after this is when Dustin started to show up to help his dad. And around this time Dustin was wrestle against Dibiase on Superstars. Dibiase would say he could beat the kid in 10 minutes. Dustin would last the time limit and then Dibiase would want to add another 5 minutes to the match next week. This lasted for a while till Dustin finally beat him. That's all I remember and I'm pretty sure I got something wrong but, feel free to add to anything. MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2005 I believe Dustin's 1st on camera appearance was during the 10/90 SNME when Dusty was wrestling Savage. Dustin was in the front row when DiBiase paid off the other ringsiders and he and Virgil sat down next to him to screw w/ The Dream. After Dustin tore up $100 bill from DiBiase, those 2 attacked him and Dusty got counted out trying to save his son. Dustin bled while Dusty was laying on top of him.
