nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2005 The defense though...good lord. Gill is Gill. I don't have the time to go off on him right now. I'll just say that watching him play is like working with that guy in your line of employment who thinks he's capable of anything. Hal Gill needs to have a fucking rope tied around his waist and be attached to his end of the ice until he gets the idea that he's not an offensive defenseman. Sorry Hal. Your advantage is that you're a huge oaf of a man with a long reach. Therefore, Gill would theoretically excel in the defensive zone, but he thinks that he's capable of skating with the best in the NHL so he's routinely turned into a 6'7" statue with a black and gold sweater on. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I had the 'pleasure' of going to the game last night ... that giveaway by Gill was inexcusable. I don't see how someone can so consistently NOT clear the puck the way he does. And I'd tie the rope around his neck, not his waist. I know that you're a Samsonov fan, Max, but I really think that he's who they should trade to get a D. You need to trade quality to get quality, and making up a package of young guys & picks won't get the team what they need: a legit #1 or #2 d-man. Trade Samsonov for a quality d, and then when Leetch is healthy they'd have 3 legit defensemen (Leetch, Boynton, and the new guy) mixed in with Slegr, Moran (if he's healthy) and one of the kids, maybe Alberts. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2005 I don't watch Hockey. But I did notice that people still have a spot for ties on their record. If they have the shootout then how are games still ending in a tie?
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2005 Its not a point for a tie. Its a point for an overtime loss or a shoot out loss. Like last night, Montreal lost in the shootout against Pittsburgh, and still receive a point for losing in the shootout. Its like a consoloation prize. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2005 If you guys hate Gill so much, why is he an assistant captain then for Boston? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's only wearing one now while Leetch is injured, and will be giving it back upon Leetch's return. Having said that, though, I think Gill gets it only because of how long he's been a Bruin. Off the top of my head, I can't think of another current Bruin that's been on the team as long as he has. I personally think Boynton, Bergeron, or Samsonov are all more deserving than Gill is.
the max 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2005 I think I saw one on PJ a few games ago. My issue with trading Sergei is getting value for him. He's playing very well so far this season and I don't want to end up trading him for less than what he's worth and end up getting shafted. Plus, with Joe's back having potential to keep him out of a few more games this season, trading an offensive weapon that can play on any line with anyone and still backcheck with the best of them doesn't make sense. Plus, if Joe leaves after his contract is up, they're really shooting themselves in the foot since it's unknown whether Sergei will be around. I'm torn. I like Sergei and would like to see him be a part of the team long term. I have a nice view of a top line of Bergeron-Boyes-Samsonov.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2005 Goalies may be the most underappreciated players in all of professional sports. It takes someone special to be able to do what they do. They get credit, but I really don't think they get nearly as much as they deserve.

It seems that the B's knew/thought that they could only afford two of the big three (Sammy, Joe, and Muzz) and that Sammy was the odd man out. Both of the other two got long term contracts, and he settled on a one year deal. Trade him now before he leaves at the end of the year. I think even if they want him back, he'll leave. the max 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2005 I see your point. It's going to be hard to replace Sergei when/if he leaves because I can see most of the money (hopefully) in the offseason going to defense. And Gill wears an alternate whenever someone is out of the lineup. When Joe missed a few games earlier this season, they had three alternates; Murray; Leetch; Gill. I too would put one on Bergeron or Boynton before Gill...
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2005 its unfortunate. but the way the league has been this year. no one should expect to be in the final except the senators & red wings. they are completely outclassing everyone, especially the senators. i haven't seen an offensive juggernaut this dominant since the early 90's penguins. the max 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2005 Only Nashville can make that division interesting though. Chicago is mediocre, Columbus has very few excellent players and St. Louis is the drizzling shits. I just think they'll make the playoffs, but get a tough matchup (Calgary). Kismet 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2005 As a Wings fan, it's just far too early to guess how well they will do. I already said here myself that they should fall back into the pack after the next few weeks. If on the very slight chance they keep rolling thru their next 2 road trips, then maybe start worrying about them doing something in the playoffs. I think Detroit as of now is about a 3-5 seed if I were to throw a guess out there.

Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2005 Toronto escapes a close one in Montreal in OT with a goal by O'Neill to win 5-4. I really thought we had this one lost when Montreal took the lead for the first time as the third period was winding down, but we got the crucial two points. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2005 Another Sens blowout of Buffalo last night. They've won all three games this season by a combined score of 21-5. Also, Heatley's point-scoring streak hit 15 games, Alfie now leads the league in scoring (15-16-31) with a goal and two assists last night, and the Sens are now averaging 5 goals a game. Though he did briefly rectify it with his goal to briefly take the lead. Hehe, rectify.

Kismet 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2005 Vancouver is up 4-1 on my Wings, cementing their superiority over them so far. Bertuzzi has a hat trick, too bad it wasn't someone else. Canucks are good fun to watch. Physical enough, and when they drive toward the net, the Wings were screwed.
