The Shield, season 5, official thread

Recommended Posts

Give her Golden Globe or Emmy nods or whatever, I wasn't digging Glen Close last season. Forest Whitaker though? Yeeeeeeeah.

To be fair, all of the current spoilers floating around the internet for season five have Forest Whitaker's character being the sort of evil shit-stirring, pupper-master type bastard character that will keep the show interesting and open up NEW storylines by playing Vic against Lem as opposed to the over-used "Vic Versus Shane" plotline the writers love to use over and over again......

I just finished the 4th series the other day. It was pretty awesome. I'd say the 1st and the 4th are the best seasons so far, and I'm really looking to the 5th starting. So is Close back in it for this season? I think she added alot of credibility to the show which attracted me to it in the first place. And I'm guessing Forest Whitaker is the new drug dealer in Farmington?

Nope, she only wanted to do one season.

I'm guessing to boost her credibilty or something because critics LOVE it when movie actors/actresses go to TV shows.

Thats a shame, it's the first of her work in years that I've actually enjoyed.

Any info on whether David Rees Snell is actually going to make opening credits this year?

Ah, Ronnie. Always a bridesmaid.......

So true, he's just the ultimate background guy.

He's playing a villain who's possibly worse than that of the new drug kingpin in Farmington; Forest's character is the Internal Affairs Division agent who's task is to bring down the Strike Team through any means necessary, including doing some of the exact same things Vic has done that has gotten him into such deep trouble to begin with.

It's been rumored that Snell will finally make the opening credits this season, though we won't know for sure until the show returns this Tuesday.....

Any Canadians who watch this show besides me have info on if/when we'll be getting this and on what carrier?

I doubt that any channel in Canada will pick it up until well past the end of its initial airing on FX and even then it's a crapshoot. I've been downloading it since season three since I refuse to wait that long and I suggest that all Canadian fans do the same.

Anyway, I have high hopes for this season and if it is going to be the last, hopefully the rumor that it will be 21 episodes is true.

Yeah but it is going to be split up, like Sex and the City's final season.

EDIT: Why doesn't Canada have FX?

I honestly don't know if I can rank the seasons anymore. If I HAD to do it I'd probably go

Season 2

Season 3

Season 1

Season 4

And with that being said I absolutly love season 4, just thought it started a little slow and a little too focused on Glen Close.

I thought Glenn Close did a great job. She's not coming back in Season 5 though last I heard. Looking forward to Tuesday, been watching the late-night reruns on FX recently.

Okay don't count that because I can't really remember them since I've only seen them one time through.

...open up NEW storylines by playing Vic against Lem as opposed to the over-used "Vic Versus Shane" plotline the writers love to use over and over again......

I was thinking about that one and I'm not liking the idea so much. Vic versus Shane has been used a lot but it's almost a younger versus older brother ordeal because of how close Shane and Vic are. Then with Lem it just seems like he's been so frustrated and had his conscience gnawing at him since day one (well since Terry bit the bullet) so he could finally snap. The problem is I can't see Vic being as intense towards Lem... but who knows.

I'm excited for this season and for me-

I imagine things will intensify between Vic and Lem massively once Lem finds out Vic shot Terry. The stuff between Shane and Vic....it's kind of a Frankenstein's onster thing, Vic made Shane into what he is, Shane just takes things a bit to far and gets in way over his head.

But anyway, yeah, dying for this season to start....I've been so pumped up since I first saw the teaser with the scene from the pilot with Terry getting shot and "Conscience is a killer"<or something similar> tagline, been waiting SOOOOO long for that to get wrapped up....though after waiting for so long I don't know if anything will fully live up to whatI've been expecting but none the less I'm sure it'll still be intense.

I'd say Vic will find out early on that they're being watched because of Lem taking the stash in season 4, and Lem will blame Vic because he told him to take collatoral. I can't wait to see this season though, part of me understands why it ends, but I wouldn't be upset if it ended up going 6 seasons.

oh and ranking seasons (even though i've loved all of them)

CH seems to be airing season 5 in Canada, only one day after it airs on FX (Wednesdays at 10 ET). :D Beats the heck out of the year-long wait for the first three seasons.

Edit: The first episode is set to air this Wednesday, anyhow. Zap2It is saying the premiere is being replayed next Wednesday (18th) on CHCH (Hamilton). It doesn't say which one will be on next week on CHEK (Victoria).

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good episode tonight. What a great way to start off the season. I can't remember a better episode to a new season since, well, season 1.

Awesome start. Forest Whitaker is great already; I love the way his character seems to have an edge on everyone right off. All the little changes over the past six months--especially Julian as a training officer and Billings as a totally inept captain--seem to have great potential for the season.

The stuff with Forrest Whitakker was great I thought... but the actual A plots of this episode were boring. The gum thing was a strange little gimmick that actually kinda made sense, as far as cracking under pressure goes.

I did think it was kind of interesting how the members of the barn were sort of running the asylum themselves. at one point you had danny, vic, shane, dutch, claudette, all standing there coordinating the case among themselves, switching cases, etc, and working well together, wtih no oversight. despite the feuds its like they're a well oiled machine.

Forrest Whitakker started out good. I KNOW I'm going to hate this guy before too long.

I like Billings as the lapdog captain. Only a matter of time before he botches something major and takes heat for it.

RONNIE IN THE CREDITS!
