Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 Snow's Clam Chowder. That's some good shit right there, and while I can do a homemade clam chowder, Snow's happens to be on sale (10 for $10) at the local store.

Special K 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Clamato with a package of frozen succotash thrown in! Yeah, Chowders are the king of soups. I personally think that crawfish chowder is the best, though you can't really get it around here.
gWIL 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 None of you are from Indiana so you won't have had this but Between the Bun's (less gay then it sounds, it's a sports bar) has a vegtable soup made fresh every day that can't be beat. Also a Stuffed Green Pepper soup that's really good.
Special K 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 Gumbo or jambalaya soup are wonderful if made well too. They must be made with okra, not roux, though. Roux is fucking gross. And I imagine okra's a lot better for you. And french onion soup is always good, and I feel more confident ordering it at a place I don't know than chowder. You can get some baaaad chowder, even at some decent restaurants.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Clam Chowder is easy to make Clams Clam Juice potatos onions basel heavy cream milk salt and pepper to taste you can add a bit of bacon or celery too if desired, but that's basically it.
Special K 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 I've gotten clam chowder the consistency of phlegm at a restaurant before. They had probably over-thickened it with corn starch, either way, it was fucking disgusting. It was gelatinous. French onion soup is even easier: Onions Beef stock stale bread cheese. You cannot screw that up.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 I worked with a guy from Portugal that screwed up Onion Soup. He forget about it in the salamander and it boiled and blew up.

Guest heyimbro Report post Posted February 1, 2006 Cream of Broccoli w/cheese base > all other soups I agree, minus the cheese base. I think regular cream of broccoli is good enough on its own. Cheese just taints it.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2006 Progresso's Italian Wedding soup is awesome. I don't really eat soup outside of the canned kind you get at the grocery store, despite having it fairly often.

Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2006 Matzo Ball soup goes unmentioned? Pshaw. Progresso has sucessfully ruined their Beef Barley soup, which was amazing, by making it "hearty". Seriously, who the fuck wants a chunky soup? the broth is the best part of soup.

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2006 Has anyone ever had Manhatten Clam Chowder? I never had because I didn't like the idea of tomato-based clam chowder......I have only eaten the Boston/New England style and it is fucking great.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2006 Goulash soup is the best followed by Ministrone Goulash is more of a stew, or slop more than anything, in my books. I'd have said my Aunt's potato and leek, but homemade shouldn't count. I started a "Worldwide Best Soup" search in 1997. Olive Garden's Zuppa Tuscgana still has the leade, but the aunt asterisk applies big time.
