This week in the NBA

Bad trade for Boston. They didn't need Wally's contract at all.

Maybe they're gonna try and turn him around to a contender for an expiring contract to free up even more room. Although I'd imagine Boston really wants to wait till the summer of 07 for FA's like Bosh to be potentially available.

Both the teams I follow made trades with the Timberwolves today.

I think the Suns made a great deal getting Tskitishvili. The guy was a lottery pick in the past that was never given a chance to play at his pace. Although he was picked a whole lot higher, I am thinking the Suns may have another Boris Diaw situation here. First round pick foreign player who goes unnoticed until he gets in the appropriate system. He has worked with D'Antoni before too, so I think this could be solid. Trading away a 2nd round pick that is bound to be late becaue it is in this summer's draft is definately a good gamble and I hope will end up being a major steal.

The Celts on the other hand... not so enthused. It didn't help that I got different variations on the deal. I was watching the Suns game tonight when the announcers said a trade in the league involving Davis, Blount, Reed and two draft picks for Szcerbiak and Olawakandi. I was ticked off at that. I really liked Ricky D after being reluctant with him going to Boston in the first place. I think Justin Reed is going to be a real solid player, maybe along Bruce Bowen lines someday, just hasn't gotten much experience. I was steaming. Then I got online and saw Davis, Blount, Reed and two second rounders for Szcerbiak, Olawakandi, Jones and a first round pick. I started to like the deal because I am not sure if Minnesota will swing into a playoff team so soon, Jones is putting up decent numbers and is a former teammate of Delonte West in college. I know Kandi is just the expiring contract, so the Celts kinda work out. Then, I saw Banks was thrown in, that made me go sour on the deal again. I knew Cleveland wanted Banks and I am sure the Celts could've tossed him for something their way and potentially not have even had to throw him in this deal.

I think some aspects of the trade wash, but I think Ricky D will be missed. He is a little bit more consistant and a little less injury prone than Szcerb. I mean, I like Szcerb, but my problem with everytime I have watched the Celts this year has more been coaching issues than the roster.

Boston wants turn Wally into a poor mans Larry Bird.

Chris Bosh has expressed alot of interest in staying in Toronto, judging from interviews he has a great relationship with Raptors coach Sam Mitchell, and loves the city Toronto.

If the Raptors fire Sam Mitchell good chance Bosh will leave, if they keep him good chance Bosh will stay.

Nets really need to make a trade to add another big body to the team, they are getting KILLED by PF's and C. They gotta make a trade for Stromile Swift, who would excel in the fast break offense of the Nets. Easy target for ally-ops passes from Jason Kidd. If they add Swift they could compete with Pacers and Miami in the East.

And lastly, I'm willing to bet Pierce will be traded before the deadline, I'm hearing rumors of Pierce for Ben Gordan and 1st rounder. I'd think that would be a great trade for both teams.

I hadn't heard that rumor, but with Ricky Davis getting traded, it makes me feel more and more like Pierce will. I will hate to see it happen, but I have a feeling it will. I just don't know if the Celts need another guard in Ben Gordon and if Pierce goes to Chicago, that's gonna make that first round pick hike up, especially if it is not this year's pick. Then again, I can't come up with any better deal.

I loved Chris Paul on Cold Pizza. Dana Jacobson is trying to say that OKC isn't their home and they're always on the road and he's like "Umm....yeah it's our home." And then she tries to ask him what the other players said about playing in New Orleans and he's like "ummmmm...........they said it was good." you could tell that nobody ever said anything good about New Orleans.

God damn you'd be stupid to move this team back to New Orleans! And for some reason ESPN and the media are trying to act like it's a god given right that they return to NO and OKC is evil for daring to host the Hornets or want to keep them.

I doubt the Celtics trade Pierce actually. He is the centerpiece of what could be a very solid team next year and beyond. I figure they plan on using the kandi money to sign a good PG that they need this offseason. I would love a lineup like this:

C Perkins

PF Jefferson

SF Szcerb

SG Pierce

PG Top FA

Bench:

West

Allen

Gomes

Raef

Green

scalabrine(worst move Ainge has made unfortunately)

so what's up with Pat Riley: Jason Kapono played the last 15 minutes of the heat vs. phoenix game...a game they were competitive in (Though you never really felt they were going to win)

He played 24 minutes total, right around the same amount as Antoine Walker.

That just seems weird, all season he's barely played at all, now he's their leading bench minute guy for that game.

He's supposed to be a decent shooter but hasn't shown it much...has he developed a good on-ball defensive game that I don't know about, or was it just for the phoenix game to have a guy in good condition who could run with the suns?

The suns were collapsing in the lane, shutting down most or all drives and post up opportuitys so they needed some people that could hit the outside shot on the court. Kapono hit a few for them, but not as well as they would have hoped.

I am pumped that the suns got Tskitishvili. I wanted him there last year and I wanted them to sign him the off season, so now they have a guy that is a 7 footer, can run the floor and can flat out shoot the open jumper. He will do very well in phoenix

As for the Boston deal...Minnesota comes off like bandits if they can get in the playoffs and make that 1st rounder no big deal. Blount is a upgrade from Kandi, although I know you Bostonites hate him. Davis is a upgrade from Wally because although he can't shoot as consistantly as Wally, he can actually play D. Hopefully that will mean they won't have to start Trenton Hassell to pick up the slack defensively and play a guy like Jaric at the 2 and Banks at the point.

For Boston, I have no doubt that Wally's scoring is going to jump. But when it jumps all they are going to have is the same points that Ricky gave them, without the defense. Kandi will be a downgrade from Blount, and while West is the man, who exactly is going to back him up? Did they call up Will Bynum from the D league?

Ok the Celtics are my favorite NBA team and I haven't really looked at who all got traded I just saw that we got Wally. I'm sorry I always liked the white dude when I watched the Timberwolves during their run two years ago. I would say that I'd like to see him play for the Celtics but they're never on TV and since I live in Oklahoma I can't get any of their games. They're my fav team and I haven't seen one Celtics game this season. Fucking sucks.

The deal is a lateral move for both teams.

Minny gets rid of Wally's contract, but takes on Blounts. Boston gets rid of Blounts contract, but takes on Wally's. Any way you want to spin it, Wally and Davis produce about the same, and are no better than each other. Wally can shoot like hell, and rebound a little, and Davis is a good scorer, who can pass a little better. To me, it was a pointless trade.

If by pointless you mean it free's up the celtics to get a goiod FA this offseason with kandi's money than sure.

Since when is Davis a good defensive player? Have asny of you watched him the past 2 years? He can't even SPELL defense. Hell he cost them their last game with his last minute "defensive effort".

McHale said it in his press conference too, dellusional.

Dama, its fucking Cold Pizza, the show has no merit on athletics or journalism at all. Ignore it

Oh I've heard other writers go on about how bad OKC is being and how mean we are or whatever.

I wonder if Wally and Co. will be available tonight versus The Kings and the debut of Ron Artest?

I was thinking the same thing. Last I knew, all four guys the Celtics traded had been part of the active roster, even though some were not getting off the bench. The Celts have Green in the D-League, so they may a little shorthanded if they don't show up, which media speculation right now is to not expect them.

Artest debuts tonight and Peja will be with the Pacers today against Cleveland, but is expected to make his playing debut on Tuesday.

Just be glad Bayless didn't chime in with any expert analysis. I still think they'll stay in OKC.

I think the Celtics have givin up on Pierce being their franchise player and I think want to make a move on a top ranked free agent instead.

If there is one thing Celts fans need to do, its let Larry Bird go. Paul Pierce was not going to be their savior because he is way too selfish. I knew he wasn;t going to amount to all that much after he started glossing himself "The Truth". He can score like nobody's business, but as Chuckles said once, "any knucklehead can score". I like Delonte West, though, the kid can play. Getting Wally for Ricky Davis was basically a wash. Wally is a decent shooter but nothing spectacular. He should have been traded from the T-Wolves two or three years ago, when it was evident that he and KG were simply never going to get along.

This is going to be a hell of a night in the NBA. Celtics vs. Kings I have to watch aside from the Pistons and Grizzlies. Lets see if Artest is game ready.

Two Bad Moves

NEW YORK (SI.com) --

Marc Stern twice had the opportunity to see NBA history -- and gave it away both times.

Stern, a vice chairman of a Los Angeles asset management firm, was an 18-year-old sophomore at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., in 1962 when he bought two tickets to see the then-Philadelphia Warriors play the New York Knicks in nearby Hershey.

But when one of his professors scheduled a test for the next day, Stern gave the tickets away -- and thus failed to see Wilt Chamberlain score 100 points.

Now Stern is a Lakers season ticket-holder, meaning he had tickets to see Sunday's game against the Raptors. But Stern opted to attend a birthday party instead -- and thus failed to see Kobe's 81-point outburst.

"Two historic games, 44 years and 3,000 miles apart with one common thread -- stupid me," Stern told the Los Angeles Times.

"A lot of people claimed to have had tickets to that game in Hershey, but I may be the only person who claims to have had them and not gone to the game," Stern added. "And I can't imagine anyone else having tickets to the Wilt game and the Kobe game, and not attending either one."

Stern was at a business meeting in Los Angeles this week when he told his story. At the meeting was former NFL quarterback Pat Haden.

"If Marc ever wants to give his tickets away again," Haden told the Times, "the recipient is bound to see a good game."

Fuck professors, and your birthday.

Ricky Davis played pretty damn well tonight and anyone who thinks his D is the same as Wally's hasn't watched much of Wally. Davis is a much better fit here in Minnesota and he's been wanting to play here with KG for years.

Chris Andersen a drug user? Get out of town. That might explain the horrible performance at last year's Slam Dunk contest.

Interesting note from the Wolves-Celtics trade. With Blount's 15% increase in salary. The Wolves receive a 4.2 million dollar trade exemption for next year. Add that to the $5 million mid-level exemption. It's $ 9.2 million to use a sign and trade deal, with a top priced free agent.

UM, no, don't do it. Real life you take Wallace, in fantasy land Webber is more likely to getting a 30+ points and double digit rebounds. Wallace is on a more balanced team and his big games are fewer and further between.

Take Wallace. Webber isn't a bad option, but his knees always steer me away from him.

There's a reason Wallace is ranked so high by Yahoo.
