pochorenella 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 I actually still listen to my cd of "Last Action Hero". You had Alice in Chains, AC/DC, Queenschryce, Def Leppard and Aerosmith on it. Good Times. I agree. Damn good album. I second the love for Purple Rain and also add the Soundtrack for Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

pochorenella 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2006 also add the Soundtrack for Star Wars IV: A New Hope. Poch, as a fellow SW geek, you dissappoint me! ESB clearly had the best soundtrack...the meteor field chase score is fantastic! Don't say that, Lushus, please! Don't get me wrong, I also own the ESB soundtrack, and it has the mighty "Imperial March" (or "Darth Vader's Theme", whatever you wanna call it) that I love so much, but I had to go with ANH because it's the original one. I forget the original names, but "Cantina Theme", the "Luke Skywalker's theme" (when he contemplates his uncertain future in Tatooine), the one when Luke, Han, etc. are given the medals, and so on, they're all dear and close to me. I even had them all on my cell phone! Not to mention the 20th Century Fox Fanfare along with "Star Wars Theme" STILL gives me the chills each time I listen to it. I even relate that Fanfare to SW every time I watch it in any movie at the theater or on DVD. Sorry, didn't want to turn this into another Star Wars geekiness thread. Guest hasbeen Report post Posted March 30, 2006 For its time, Saturday Night Fever was huge. Hard to call disco "best" in anything but everyone I knew had the two records. I don't know if Nightmare on Elm Street ever had a full soundtrack but the theme really gave the kids the creeps and I still remember how it went.
Copper Feel 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2006 Purple Rain is almost certainly the best, however: The Who's Tommy album deserves to be mentioned. And was David Bowie's Low album a movie soundtrack? If so that deserves high consideration for being the best, although I still think Purple Rain is better.

Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2006 in no particular order: Requiem for a Dream: I can't recall a soundtrack that better fits a movie than this. They could've just lazied it up and given it a generic score with the sweeping violins and all that, but this was just manic and different in exactly the right ways. The Devil's Rejects: Unexpected uses of great sothern rock. The Third Man: Zither theme~! Shaun of the Dead: Best use of Queen music since Wayne's World

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2006 I'm agreeing entirely with Rock N' Roll High School, Shaun of the Dead, and ESPECIALLY The Devil's Rejects. It's just a shame that Rob didn't record/release his song of the same name when the movie came out. It's an industrial country song, if that makes sense. Really good, creepy shit. I sorta recommend the new Zombie album, since it is filled with little creepy horror movie music, more than any of his prior work is. Maybe it's the collaboration with John Five, or maybe it's just that he's maturing musically (yeah, I realize that sounds funny since all of his music thus far has been meaningless yet oddly satisfying...at least White Zombie was satisfying). But yeah. I'm gonna throw the Bride of Chucky soundtrack in here, as well as parts of the Ghosts of Mars soundtrack. The song "Kick Ass" on the latter is good old-school generic speed metal from Anthrax without vocals, so it sorta reminds me of an industrialized (at times) SOD. Sorta creepy in a way. And save for a couple of tracks, Bride of Chucky is fucking killer.

Guest gthureson Report post Posted April 6, 2006 There is a difference between soundtracks and scores, you know. As far as scores go: Basil Pouldaris - Conan The Barbarian Enrico Morricone - The Thing Soundtracks? Trainspotting

haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2006 Soundtracks are usually different bands and what-not that contributed music to a film. Scores are the background music you hear in a movie, that are mostly composed by one person. For example, you never see a Star Wars SOUNDTRACK, you always see "The Original Score" in stores. The Soundtracks that get the most play on my ipod are: Rocky IV - This is without a doubt the finest compilation of music that man has ever produced. Transformers the Movie - If you can't smile listening to "Dare", or "The Touch", then you have no soul. The rest of the soundtrack is full of badass 80's hair rock bands like Lion, Spectre General, and N.R.G. Daredevil and The Punisher had lots of good songs on their discs. Forrest Gump deserves some honorable mention as well. It was such a diverse sosundtrack.

However I also have "The Best Around" from Karate Kid that is in my top 25 most played playlist. fantastic song! another hard to find song that I finally got ahold of and play the shit out of: "Never Surrender" by Lion (some obscure 80s band that didn't last long) from "The Wraith"...those of you familiar with the movie, it's the song playing as The Wraith is racing the kid that wears the letterman jacket and drives the yellow Camero. Kick ass track!
