The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Excuse me? What monstrous contracts has Theo handed out that changed the payscale and didn't work out? He's the guy that passed on Pedro, DLowe, Nomar, Damon, etc. because they were getting offers for above market contracts. He's had his failures like anyone else, but in contract terms he's been one of the most restrained GMs in the game. Matt Clement p 3 years/$25.5M (2005-07) 05:$6.5M, 06:$9.5M, 07:$9.5M Jason Varitek c 4 years/$40M (2005-08) 05-08:$9M/year Edgar Renteria ss 4 years/$40M (2005-08), plus $11M 2009 club option 05:$7M, 06:$8M, 07:$9M, 08:$9M, 09:$11M club option ($3M buyout) And Drew and Julio Lugo could be right around the corner. The Matt Clement market was already set by the deals given to Kris Benson and Carl Pavano that same year. He got fair market value, and probably would have lived up to that contract had a bomb not gone off in his arm in the second year of the deal. Tek was an overpay to keep a homegrown guy. I'll give you that one and possibly Renteria, although I'd be inclined to say that was fair market value at the time regardless of how shitty he ended up being. JD Drew was a steal compared to the Soriano, C. Lee, Matthews and Pierre deals, which were all OF contracts signed this offseason. It may be insanely large in dollar amounts, but it isn't the sort of deal that changes the payscale for comparable players.

Now this is usally the part where I get pissed abou them not showing games and all that... BUT IT'S AMERICAN GLADIATORS! I ain't complaining about this. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2007 Colin Cowherd. Wow, he's gotten terrible with his shtick. He makes my superiority complex look like nothing. You make it sound like he was ever actually GOOD with his schtick. I briefly listened to him when I was still living in Florida, and his act grated on my nerves back then. I just saw a commercial on ESPN Classic for American Gladiators coming to the network. Now this is usally the part where I get pissed abou them not showing games and all that... BUT IT'S AMERICAN GLADIATORS! I ain't complaining about this. Wow.... I'll have to DVR that.... I will be the first to admit that I had a thing for Zap, but she got eclipsed very quickly when they started bringing hotter talent.

Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2007 American Gladiator reruns? ESPN has redeemed themselves! Nothing like seeing Billy Wirth whoop Gemini's ass in Conquer! Oh and Malibu was the shittiest Gladiator, ESPECIALLY on Cannonball, I swear he always got knocked off the pedestal. Didn't he get pretty fucked up one time? MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2007 IIRC, there was a guy named Clifton Miller who tore up the Gladiators one season. I think it was 1992-93ish.

TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 Mike and Mike bring on "ESPN Baseball Insider" Jayson Stark, I assume to talk about spring training today. - Question 1: How GREAT~!! will Daisuke Matzusaka be? - Question 2: Roger Clemens might go to Houston, New York, or Boston. (!) - Next 10 Minutes with the ESPN Baseball Insider on NCAA Tournament including "How many brackets do YOU fill out?" Surprizingly I didn't hear the B word mentioned. But I may have missed the begining. Thankfully Opie & Anthony weren't on commercial break for very long so I could switch back quickly.

Guest Smues Report post Posted March 16, 2007 ESPN radio has some retarded new policy that ESPN personalities are not allowed to appear on radio shows not on the ESPN radio network. This includes the Tony Kornheiser Show, despite the fact that Tony does both PTI and MNF football for ESPN.

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 Speaking of fantasy baseball. One of the so called experts was discussing players you shouldn't take too high in the draft. One was Adam Dunn, because of his batting average.Another Ryan Howard because he walks too much. Don't they realize that alot of leagues include on-base, walks, and slugging? This includes the Tony Kornheiser Show, despite the fact that Tony does both PTI and MNF football for ESPN. I remember they gave TK an "amnesty day" last week, where he was allowed to have Michelle Tafoya and some other ESPN personality on to pick brackets. But yeah, that's a stupid policy... Didn't Mike and Mike rip off TK last week when they had "Liam's Mom" on to pick brackets?

One was Adam Dunn, because of his batting average.Another Ryan Howard because he walks too much. Don't they realize that alot of leagues include on-base, walks, and slugging? No, because as ESPN has said forever... "Chicks dig the longball..." and well, ESPN figures that more people have HR's and other stats instead of the one's you mentioned... The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 A lot of the leagues around here include OBP but, in general, a large majority of the fantasy leagues out there are your run-of-the-mill 5x5 with batting average. Of course, citing Ryan Howard is pretty silly anyway - he walked a lot last year and I don't really think that hurt his fantasy production that much.
Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted March 22, 2007 They're right about Dunn in batting average leagues, though... a .240 average from a player taken in the early rounds will destroy you. And I guess most leagues don't do OBP. Complaining about too many walks is stupidity.

Of course, citing Ryan Howard is pretty silly anyway - he walked a lot last year and I don't really think that hurt his fantasy production that much. They do use the more traditional stats. I just think it was worth mentioning that Dunn works better in leagues that emphasis on-base over batting.
