Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2006 Yeah, that is pretty funny. I've also heard people call Nelly "good music." And my ex-girlfriend loved a plethora of shitty pop/country acts like SheDAISY and Boomcat and whatnot...but she also loved The Misfits and Acid Bath, so she was all over the board. Still a flaming cunt.

Perfxion 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2006 Thing is, Nelly IS a good rapper. Just because you don't like rap doesn't mean he has talent. Problem people have with rap is that they expect everyone to make shit like Rakim, which doesn't sell worth shit. Nelly is about as old school of a style like Kurtis Blow and Sugar Hill Gang. Now when it comes to worst fanbases: The Country and Rap fans bashing one another when both talk about everyday struggle. Both embrace their guns for protection. Both talk in the language of the listener. Both have their own dances and dress style, yet hating on one or the other and a response of "kiss my ass" will come forth. Not all emo fans are bad. Some just like the music. Not all LP fans are bad, some just like the music. However, ALL fans that chat on any singer/group/band's messageboard are bad. Take things WAY too much. And any fans of racist acts fucking suck. No wait, they will blame the jews. BTW: Rock is a pretty open term, Clarkson's last CD does have some tracks that could be called rock. Pop-rock, yet rock non the less.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2006 Yes. Nelly is a good rapper. Wait...no he's fucking not. He's about as talented as Ja Rule, just with less of an annoying voice. Check out my grills? CHECK OUT MY FUCKING GRILLS?! WHAT THE FLYING CUNT DOES THAT BULLSHIT MEAN?! As for rap, outside of MC Lars and other comedy acts, I listen to PSYCHOlogical stuff (Necro, Ill Bill, and the gang), older Ice Cube, The Slim Shady LP (only album of his I can get into), and a few others. Pop/rap I can't fucking stand. Especially when it's specifically designed to sell to women who just want to dance, but then likes to pretend it has some alternate meaning. "It's getting hot in here / So take off all your clothes"? Yeah, fuck you, man. BTW, Ant, how's life been treating you? Haven't seen you or Jen around here in forever, and I'm never in the Chat anymore (though I'll hit up Ryan now and then).

Sideburnious 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2006 I guess you could argue Rage against the Machine as Metal influenced Rap. Has anyone mentioned Marilyn Manson or Limp Bizkit yet?
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2006 Corey: May I reccomend Ice's Bad Blood and Techno Animal's Brotherhood of the Bomb? Both are Hip Hop/Industrial/Dub/Electronic albums, both featuring Justin Broadrick, and they are great (as well as very creepy). Oh, and both feature some of the underground hip hop's best rappers (El-P, Antipo Consortium, Dalek, Toastie Tayor)
Perfxion 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2006 I come to the conclusion that not everything in the mainstream sucks(which most in this thread have shown) and not all in the mainstream is sliced bread #2(which Clear Channel and MTV would lead you to believe). Nelly IS good, Eminem Show was Em's best CD, Kelly Clarkson isn't crap, there are fans for Limp Bizkit, Korn, and LP type of music. Metal isn't for everyone. The problem with underground music is that most of it won't fly on mainstream, they might have good lyrics, but if I am driving down I95, I don't want a mindfuck, I want an "And then What". BTW: Cor, whats up my MA nigga?

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 Anybody know of any metal influenced rappers? (If such a thing exists) I already mentioned one earlier. NECRO. Think of the gangsta rap lyrics of the NWA meets the gore lyrics of Cannibal Corpse, and you pretty much get Necro. Plus, he has a lot of metal stars do some work with him here and there. And Ant, been doing pretty good. Job's good, girl's good (as you can tell, my last one was a fucking cunt, this one's amazing), beer's a-flowin'...all I need is my own place (a far ways away due to monetary constraints) and a new band. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 I find alot of people that listen to "indie" music to be elitist snobs. However, I do like "indie" music and have been referred to as an elitist snob. It depends. I know a lot of folks who listen to indie music but don't think they are the greatest just because they do. Some people are just assholes who happen to listen to indie music. As for LP fans, the main problem is the ones who are just getting into it. Most of the ones who have been around it for awhile now listen to critism cause lots of time it's the same critism we have. Guest Felonies! Report post Posted May 1, 2006 I still think that to an extent, indie music just attracts assholes. I'm not saying that as a blanket statement, and I don't know that indie has more assholes than any other genre or subgenre or movement or whatever, but it's just a thought. I think it just has to do with people wanting to be part of something that's "superior" in some way, even if they don't truly get music on even a moderately advanced level. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 Good Charlotte. I don't know if it's fair to pass judgement on people who like Good Charlotte and uh...Fall Out Boy...and uh...other...bands...of...that...genre. I say that because, in my experience, most of the people that like those bands are 15 year old girls and boys who are trying to get in the pants of said 15 year old girls. I guess there's just the hope that they're in a transitional phase and will grow out of it. If they're still thinking Good Charlotte is the greatest band on Earth at age 24 or so, then there's a problem. With the indie snobs, I think the assholeness comes in when they listen to like...just what they find in NME or on Pitchfork or whatever and refuse to listen to other stuff because it's "popular". And I don't get people that listen to like...serious noise rock and claim to get it. Not Sonic Youth noise-rock, but like...just noisy noise-rock...atonal shit. Come on...nobody likes that. And I met a guy today that was seriously into J.S. Bach, and he was an asshole, so I'll chime in and say that Johann Sebastian Bach fans are the worst. Guest Felonies! I'm thinking a good handful would just tell me that I'm the one that doesn't get it. As for noise, I've acquired a Wolf Eyes album. I'll check it out. As a Rap head, Nelly is fucking garbage with nursery rhymes. Guest Felonies! Report post Posted May 2, 2006 John Mayer Trio is supposed to be pretty cool; he said he was just writing wussy singer-songwriter crap so he could get the visibility to do his blues project. Jason Mraz, though, weak.

WTF? Sales aren't the end all with rap, but since Music is a business, making an album that goes double copper does not make sense. Just to keep cred, lets make an ablum that sells about 30K copies. I do like alot of "good" hip-hop acts/rappers. I am a big fan of D Block, Rakim, BDP, Wu, ect. But at the same time Puffy, Biggy, Nelly and Jay goes out a makes a shitload of money making party jams. What made 50's Get rich CD sell was "In the Club", what makes his second CD seem like a failure no real club hit. Maybe I was wrong listening to Kurtis Blow and Sugarhill Gang and hearing nothing but club music being made with weak rhymes. Maybe, I am a horrible rap fan of the last 20+ years because having a club hit makes good music just as much as Nas making a track like "Rewind".
