Black Lushus Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I have that set. My wife bought it for me when we started dating many moons ago, in a galaxy yadda yadda yadda. My 4-year-old son loves them. funny how kids just go crazy for the Star Wars films, my daughter was into them when she was 2 (she's 3 1/2 now)...she knows almost all the characters and can quote a lot of the major lines in the movie...it's dorky but funny, I'll start quoting the entire scene when Vader reveals he's Luke's father, starting with "Obi-Wan never told you..." and she'll just start quoting right along with me. of course she can also quote Obi-Wan's blubbering to Anakin at the end of ROTS...gag.
Darthtiki Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 My kids will be getting the orginals first then the entire definitive saga, when it comes time
Art Sandusky Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Oh yeah, there was a widescreen set of the 1995 release. I just always ignore the large box sets at any video store, no matter what they are since so many of them seem unnecessary. Never really computed in my head.
Anakin Flair Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 I remember getting the collector's edition of Phantom Menace on VHS, which came with a book and a fillm cell (which is still framed and sitting on my self).
NoCalMike Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 Hey now, I have the SE Empire Strikes Back Soundtrack...
Darthtiki Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 I got the original soundtrack anthology box set, personally signed by John Williams
Lil' Bitch Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 Basically, the problem with Lucas is that he's a hypocrite. He says he'll do something and does the exact opposite. I mean a long time ago, I think somebody asked him if he would do commentary if Star Wars was ever released on DVD and he said no. And what does he do? He does it. And then when asked if the original SW would be released on DVD, he said no. And now what? HE FUCKING DOES IT! God damn, make up your fucking mind!
Spaceman Spiff Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 Hey now, I have the SE Empire Strikes Back Soundtrack... I've got all 3 SE soundtracks, as well as the original anthology box set.
Black Lushus Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 the only soundtracks I have are SE ESB and TPM...however I do have "Battle Of The Heroes" on my computer, great tune!
CBright7831 Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 Nevertheless, it looks as if September is going to be an expensive month for me with this and the upcoming re-release of many of the Godzilla titles on DVD.

I seem to remember this was around when Phantom Menace came out on DVD- I asked the guy at Suncoast (remember when they were stilll around?) and he said that Lucas had said that DVD's couldn't contain everything he wanted to put with the OT, so he wouldn't release them on the format. As for the Soundtracks, I have all six- New Hope and Empire SE's, Return's recent release, and the three recent releases for the New trilogy.
Special K Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 I got the original soundtrack anthology box set, personally signed by John Williams Yeah, well I have a limited edition pet wookie.
Guest Askewniverse Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I just have the Episode III soundtrack, but I only bought it for the "A Musical Journey" bonus DVD. I have a good amount of SW on home video, but I'll still buy the upcoming DVDs. Here's what I have so far: Star Wars (Betamax) Star Wars (VHS - CBS/Fox release) Star Wars Trilogy VHS set from '95 (original version, THX enhanced) Star Wars Trilogy VHS set (Special Edition, with Episode II featurette) Episode I VHS Episode I Widescreen VHS Collector's Edition (with book and film cel) Episode I DVD (widescreen) Episode II DVD (widescreen) Episode III DVD (widescreen) Star Wars Trilogy DVD box set (widescreen) Clone Wars Vol. 1 DVD Clone Wars Vol. 2 DVD R2-D2: Beneath the Dome DVD Other than that, the only other SW-related merchandise I have is the Palpatine-Yoda Unleased figure, which is sitting on my DVD shelf.
DMann2003 Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 Lucas should ask a bunch of fanboys to record commentary so they can geek orgasm all over the old stuff "Yay Han Shot first.""Yay, the lightsabers look crappy and inconsistant again""Yay I can see the matte lines around the snowspeeders""Yay no Ewoks...oh damn that's right they WERE in the original, FUCK YOU LUCAS"

Kaertos Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 You know, about the only thing I really wanted back was the "nub nub" song at the end of Jedi. Not that I dislike the SE version, I really really do, but I grew up with the "nub-nub" song.
pochorenella Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 Dear God, do I hate that "nub-nub" Ewok song.
Kaertos Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 Well, I do prefer the SE version. I just kinda miss the "nub-nub" song.
muzz Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 My brother has that anniversary edition on VHS, with the improved effects and the like, except his is just a black and gold box set. Ideally I'd love that set on DVD.
Cheech Tremendous Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I don't even remember it. I feel that way about all the changes. Honestly, I could care less about the original, or the SE, or whatever else. They are all the same movies to me. I remember reading that list of the stuff they changed when the DVDs were coming out that got the whole internet community bitching and thinking to myself, "I wouldn't have noticed one thing on this list if someone hadn't told me."
Anakin Flair Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 You know...I never got why Lucas didn't fix the lightsaber effects in episode one. Besides the final battle between Vader and Obi-Wan, the effects looked terrible.
SuperJerk Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 I was told repeatedly by every video retail person I asked that these did not exist. Fuck you, Suncoast and Best Buy clerks of America, you lazy fucking bastard sons of bitches. Fuck you in your stupid asses and damn you to hell.

I remember reading that list of the stuff they changed when the DVDs were coming out that got the whole internet community bitching and thinking to myself, "I wouldn't have noticed one thing on this list if someone hadn't told me." let's see... -added digital background things in ANH...not a big deal, a few silly things (the little robot taunting the other robot until he gets smacked in the head, the jawa falling off whatever it was he was riding), but pretty easy to overlook. -Han shooting first...while I can understand the way it changes Solo's character around, it's not THAT big a deal because he still acts like an asshole during the other parts. Didn't phase me at all. -The Jabba scene...not a big deal at all. -scenes of the snow creature that captures Luke...no big deal. -the conversation between Vader and the Emperor changed...come on, let's bitch about something else. -Teamu Morrisson (sorry, I butchered that spelling) doing Boba's voice...I actually dug it. -Jedi Rock....okay...this sucked, I'll give you that. -Sarlac Worm...yeah I didn't dig it, but it wasn't that horrible. -scenes of various planets celebrating...I thought it was a cool touch. -Hayden Christiansen...I didn't hate it like I thought I would. -nub nub song...like I said, didn't even remember it to notice it was gone. what else was there?
Masked Man of Mystery Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 I was told repeatedly by every video retail person I asked that these did not exist. Fuck you, Suncoast and Best Buy clerks of America, you lazy fucking bastard sons of bitches. Fuck you in your stupid asses and damn you to hell. As a Best Buy employee, I can tell you that almost no one who was working when those tapes were released are still working at Best Buy, or not in the retail stores, at least. I didn't know they existed until that post either.
The Metal Maniac Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 -Han shooting first...while I can understand the way it changes Solo's character around, it's not THAT big a deal because he still acts like an asshole during the other parts. Didn't phase me at all. The thing that bugs me about it is the way Han's head moves when Greedo shoots - it's like his head just suddenly is two inches to the left. The effect just looks weird.
Lil' Bitch Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 What was the reason for them changing the Emperor / Vader dialogue in ESB?
Guest guerillagenius Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I will never buy a Star Wars DVD, period. Fuck Star Wars, overrated bullshit.
