Special K 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2006 You mean, like, every rapper who has ever lived? Hey, as Stewart said: The people who wrote Asz and titties have an Oscar, and Scorcese doesn't. It's not like I hate the Rocky flicks. I- Good, but certainly not better than Taxi Driver. *shakes fist* II- Really fun. Carl Weathers is so the man. Knows how to get his stew on. III- Good. Mr. T, Weathers and Hogan make the movie, really. IV- OK. Basically the exact same movie as #3. Rocky now is hardly a character, more and more, his opponents steal the movie. V- sucks And WP, you have gone from normal to sort of charmingly eccentric, to creepy, to CronoT. Don't be that guy. Reign it in.

trackc53 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2006 Rocky is going to be the #1 movie based on nostalgia and marketing alone. For the few weeks leading up to the movie, you WILL see Sly Stallone's face everywhere. Plus the trailer looks pretty cool, and most of the older male population in America that grew up watching the first few Rocky movies will come out to watch this. Everybody knows Rocky 5 sucks, that's why stations always replay 1-4. No way in hell Rocky bombs. If it does I owe everyone in this thread one American dollar. The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2006 All this movie is going to do is get my father fired up to work out again since he'll see Stallone in such good shape for his age... then he'll blow his knee out.

randomguy 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2006 I actually liked the concept of Rocky 5. Rocky 4 was just a retread with awful scenes and dialog. Watch it again - its a terrible movie. Rocky 5 was at least something different. Too slow and not particularly well executed but I still prefer it to 4 which is self-parody.

Seriously, I kinda agree that there's an audience for this film, but it's not going to be huge.
The Buzz 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2006 As a fan of all five Rocky movies, yes I said all five. To be honest my least favorite of the five were three and four. I think the movie will do just fine at the box office. I don't think it'll break the 100 million mark, but I do think it'll roll it somewhere between 50-90 million. Dreamgirls?...first time hearing anything about it, but Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, and Danny Glover are all good actors in my book. So I'm sure that one will do fine. The musicals seem to have their place in hollywood if done right.

Blue Bacchus 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2006 I've discussed this in another thread earlier in the year, but it seems to me that some people completely misunderstand Scarface and miss the fact that it's a cautionary tale. That I may be able to buy, but Scarface is still a bad movie.

That's right, they were not giving a shit about the dead Rocky franchise. In 1990, it had only been 5 years since the last Rocky movie. 16 years is a long time for people to forget that they didn't like Rocky 5. Rocky will do quite well for itself. To say Rocky will bomb, based off how one movie did is stupid. To give an example with another long running series, Jason X didn't do very well but Freddy vs. Jason did really well. It was a political hire, I used to bag groceries for my (current) boss' wife. You have to give more details.

Yeah, and Freddy vs Jason doing well at the box office had nothing to do with the crossover between two famous franchise characters meeting in one movie that had been rumored for years. It was really that people were just waiting for some time to pass to forget how much Jason X sucked ass. Rocky will bomb for a multitude of reasons. The fact that the last one didn't do well and the character is now a ~60 year old retard gives me confidence that it won't get more than 1 week of a high audience. Once all of the WP's of the world go see it in the first weekend and barely get it to $20 million, you'll see a huge drop and that will be that for this dead franchise. We're not talking Star Wars here.

Man Who Sold The World 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2006 [sigh] I used to work at Von's Pavilions, which is like Whole Foods (or any organic-like store) and I hated it, but I used to put on this fake ass smile to get by, and this lady used to always compliment me on it, like "You're a really nice guy" or "You have such an easy going smile". She asked me what I wanted to do and I said I wanted to be in the entertainment industry. She said her husband worked for Fox Sports and could hook me up. At the time I was going to school, so when I got offer a spot as a grip for the Best Damn Sports Show I had to decline because it was from 12-8pm or later depending on when they'd wrap up. He respected that I wanted to finish school, kept my number on file and called me after I graduated and he had moved to Technicolor, so he offer me a position with excellent pay and a chance to keep acting, so I took it. We're not talking Star Wars here. If it makes 20 Million, thats not bombing. IIRC, the budget was less than 20 million. Back to the horror movies, Freddy vs Jason did well because despite having both of them in it, it went back to the old formula. If Freddy vs Jason had been in space it would have bombed. In Rocky 5, Rocky didn't box which was one of the reasons it bombed. In Rocky Balboa, It goes make to the old formula, that formula that worked for Rocky 1-4 and will work for part 6. Rocky won't do Star Wars numbers, and it is stupid to say it will, but it will be a long way away from a bomb. Oh, and another thing Jason X hardly sucked ass. It was easily better than parts 5,8 and Jason Goes to Hell. I would even put it above 3 which with out the 3D is not that great or fun of a movie.

That I may be able to buy, but Scarface is still a bad movie. Motherfuckin' Scarface is a motherfuckin' classic, and the motherfucker is one of my favorite fuckin' movies. Compared to Hughes' original it's awful. Blatantly overacted and overly too slow in pace, hopefully DePalma doesn't take this style into Dahlia. As for Dreamgirls, they're already screaming Oscar buzz.

Man Who Sold The World 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2006 She didn't impress me at all, she did slightly better than her last films but I can only assume it has to do with it being a musical, which is right up her alley.
