LWIB 8/14-8/20

"Trader" Wayne Krivsky made yet another move for a left handed pitcher, getting Scott Schoeneweis from the Blue Jays for cash. I believe the Reds have made more moves than the rest of the NL Central put together.

Damon with a huge rbi triple and Jeter drives him home on a sac fly to make it 6-3 Yankees. Do Red Sox fans still want Crisp over Damon?

In all honesty, yes, I would prefer to have Crisp to Damon. Everyone knows that Damon will be the superior player this year and next year, but I'd rather have a guy six years younger entering his prime than a quickly aging Damon. He makes about $10 million less per year, and will adequately hold things down until Ellsbury is ready to take over in '08. Coco has struggled this year with injuries, but should be a candidate to bounce back.

It's all a moot point though, because the Sox never had a chance to sign Damon. He got his offer from the Yankees and never let the Sox try to counter or match. So you he can take his shitty biography, Queer Eye tape, girly arm and go suck off Jeter for the next four years. He's dead to me.

Denis Leary and Lenny Clarke guested during the Tigers v. Red Sox game with funny things ensuing. Seriously. Lenny Clarke is one of the funniest people I've ever heard. Get him on a roll and forget about getting a word in edgewise. The highlight of the interview was Clarke and Leary discovering that Kevin Youkilis is Jewish and then taking shots at Mel Gibson. As they're doing that, Youkilis makes a great diving play in the hole between first and second and Clarke screams, "TAKE THAT MEL! WHERE ARE YOU NOW?! IN REHAB!!!" Remy and Orsillo lost it, Orsillo was off-mike for almost five minutes while Remy did his wheeze laugh while his face turned red.

Good times.

YouTube is there They were on the radio broadcast as well.

I would make fun of the Astros for getting swept by the Cubs, but the Cards are probably due for another 7 or 8 game losing streak, so I'll just be quiet. Besides, it's not like we do much better against them...

This reminded me of the game earlier this season between these teams where the score was reversed. Cubs' poor offense made the schmuck look like gold. O'Malley did an admirable job, but a better offense would've cashed in on six walks and five hits.

Gotta feel for Pettitte. Guy goes the distance, but loses because his offense is pathetic and the Crawford boxes are a joke.

Pedro's on the DL again. The Mets are going to end up with the best record in the league and still get run out of the playoffs Atlanta style this year, I can feel it.

HAHAHA Gary Thorne.

"THREE RUNS WILL SCORE!!! OH WAIT NO ONLY TWO!"

" Lopez can't believe how slow he is!"

I can't believe he actually said that.

Reds have been good at that this year, taking a bad game and dishing it right back, no better example then the 11-0 loss to the Brewers being returned in kind the next day 11-0 win.

Eric Hinske traded to Red Sox

It puts another left handed bat in the lineup and keeps WMP from playing defense regularly, so not a bad deal. I'm guessing they sent someone like Breslow to the Jays.

Hinske makes $6 mil next year. That's an awful lot to pay for lefty bench bat or 4th outfielder, especially in light of the Carlos Pena signing that took place literally two hours before Hinske trade was official.

I certainly hope the FO office wasn't giving into the recent Boston uproar over not making any deadline deals. But I'll give the guy a chance. At least we can stop with this 13 pitchers crap by moving him to the main roster.

I'm hating this St. Louis/Cincy series. I don't wanna count the Astros out of either the Division or the Wildcard yet, considering they're less than 6 games back of each with over a month and a half to play and several games with both the Cards and the Reds, but it last series and this series all the Cards and Reds have done is trade wins and losses, so the first game between them, the Astros gain a game in the Division but lose a game in the WC, and the next game the Astros lose a game in the Division but gain a game in the WC. I guess, really, I should stop counting on the Cards to knock off the Reds or the Reds to knock off the Cards and hope the Astros can get on a Dodgers-like roll. This past series, however, was not an encouraging sign. At least Lidge is officially not the closer anymore, but "closer by committee" never works.

Perhaps he isn't a 4th outfielder. Perhaps he's Nixon's replacement for next season.

A's sweep the Mariners and tie the MLB record for most consecutive wins over a divisional opponent at 15. If they win the West they should be nice and give the M's part of their playoff share. At the very least let Joel Piniero throw out the ceremonial first pitch for good luck.

Haha, I actually kinda enjoyed Gary Thorne's play-by-play tonight. It's rare the Tigers are ever on ESPN so I haven't heard much of him.

They already have Nixon's replacement and his name is Wily Mo Pena. If they are even considering the thought of playing Hinske over Pena then I've lost all my faith in this current regime.

Just found out that the Blue Jays are paying Hinske's salary for the rest of this year and half of next year's as well. So Hinske is only going to cost about $2.5 million. That's a lot more palatable given the lack of bench depth at 1B, 3B and RF and the overabundance of right-handed hitters in the lineup. I change my vote from thumbs down to mild thumbs up.

I'll go along with that.

Guess we won't find out until tomorrow what we're giving up. (Or perhaps it'll be the same guy we gave Baltimore for Javy - you know, Mr. To Be Named Later.)

PTBLN was Adam Stern in the Juventud Lopez deal.

Balls are just flying out of Citizens Bank Smallpark right now. Delgado's got 2 (28), Beltran hit his 34th and Howard his 42nd. All but Delgado's 1st took place in the last 5 to 10 minutes.

It doesn't hurt that Scott Mathieson is pitching. He is just not ready for the bigs. All he has right now is a fastball and even that eludes him at times in the majors.

That sums him up well. Mathieson before this season had never pitched above single A. He took a huge step forward over the last season though and was overpowering in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. I think Mathieson would be better served to finish out the season in Earl Weaver's famed "long relief" role.
