Guest Arnold_OldSchool Report post Posted September 12, 2006 Don't Call Me The Rock Action man DWAYNE JOHNSON is keen to drop his 'THE ROCK' tagline that he won during his days as a pro-wrestler. Johnson was known simply as THE ROCK in his first movie roles, but now he feels he deserves the respect of his peers and critics alike, and wants to be known by his full name. He explains, "From now on please call me Dwayne Johnson. I want to be known as Dwayne Johnson the actor, and not The Rock. "I loved The Rock; The Rock was a nickname but what's happened is it's naturally progressed into Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. When it becomes just Dwayne Johnson, as it will in the next movie Southland Tales, that's fine. "I never wanted to make that defining statement. It just didn't feel right to me." In this week's EW, Dwayne calls himself THE ROCK more than once and the headline even says THE ROCK

Getting Ford to sponsor WM would be a pretty big coup for Vince (although I guess with it being at Ford Field it wouldn't be that hard to imagine). im sure its both...Ford and the City of Detroit campagined hard to get a Wrestlemania here
Guest Hotbutter Spoontoaster Report post Posted September 12, 2006 WWE has signed perennial WCW Saturday Night wrestler Brad Armstrong to a contract. He is expected to actually wrestle for ECW, mostly on house shows though. He'll mainly be used to help put talent over and to give the younger wrestlers tips. Armstrong is 45 years old. A few minutes later, Gewirtz and his sister came to the section and without telling the person, asked to take a picture of him with his sign. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Don't Call Me The Rock Okay, I used to defend the guy left and right, but now he's just being a real asshole about it. I can't wait until he comes back one day just so I could boo the shit out of him. Johnson, 34, spent yesterday in Washington to promote his new inspirational sports-themed movie "Gridiron Gang" and to host a screening of the flick for troops at Andrews Air Force Base. The WWF wrestler-turned-actor plays real-life coach Sean Porter , who organized a group of juvenile delinquents into a football team. Johnson listed the virtues of sports to us and detailed how athletics turned him around, adding, "By the time I was 17, I'd been arrested nine times." Although he made a name for himself in wrestling, Johnson said his days of slamming opponents in the ring are "absolutely" over. "I decided to quietly get out of wrestling" in order to focus on acting and to spend more time with family, he said. "I've been out for three years now." And while he didn't have time for sightseeing in Washington, Johnson said he did make time for refueling: "You guys have got great food. That's all I need. I think I ate about 68 ounces of red meat last night." Credit: The Washington Post Well, looks like we'll never get Rock / Michaels, and that sucks fucking ass. Back in 96-97 Shawn who is course buddies with Hunter and had pull basically burried the Rock to Vince. Saying the guy was nothing and would never be anything and they should just get rid of him. Then Shawn thought the Rock was stealing Hunters spot and kept bitching about that. Also the Rock has basically said Shawn was nothing but a complete prick to him the entire time he was around...... Add in that Bret Hart was the one guy who stood up for the Rock and told Vince he was the future of the company.........I think you can get the picture of why the Rock has no desire to ever work with HBK. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Its basically what Downhome had said all along. How everytime the Rock gets interviewed or whatever, he's always kissing ass to the fans. "Oh, how I miss wrestling and I wish I could be there right now." or "I love you guys and I WILL be back one of these days!" And then I read stuff like this and it just shows he's an asshole because I find his previous remarks to be now insincere since he wants to be Mr. Hollywood and that he's too good for wrestling by ditching his name even though that's the name that got him to be a somebody to begn with and now WWE actually makes the effort to help promote his movies when they don't have to. I figured he always said shit like that anyway just so he could get his fans to go watch his movies. Basically, what I'm saying is that if he didn't say that stuff to begin with, I wouldn't have a problem with him ditching his name, wanting to be a star, etc. Don't expect me to be a Rock fan again if he does show up again, which I doubt now. You would've never gotten it anyway. It's been stated plenty that Rock hates Shawn Michaels and wouldn't want to work with the guy. He's not being professional then. I'm sure there's plenty of guys who don't like each other, but yet put that bullshit aside for the good of business. Okay, so HBK held the Rock down, but since it backfired and the Rock became a big star after all, he shouldn't let it get to him. After all, Steve Austin did get to beat the crap out of Bischoff on live TV and personal distain didn't stop Mick Foley from working with Ric Flair. Hell, Foley was the one that got held down by Flair to begin with, yet Foley was gracious enough to lose the feud when he didn't even have to.

Saying the guy was nothing and would never be anything and they should just get rid of him. Of course Foley said the same thing. A quote from his book: "The next day, one of the guys asked for my impression of Rocky. "Hey, he's a nice guy," I said, "but he just doesn't have it. The office should probably just cut their losses and get rid of the guy." I had no idea that I was talking about the future "People's and Corporate Champion." This makes no sense. The Rock is an actor now, he is no longer a professional wrestler. He wants to be taken seriously, so I applaud him for trying to ditch The Rock name and go as Dwayne Johnson. I figured he always said shit like that anyway just so he could get his fans to go watch his movies. How does trying to make it as Dwayne Johnson show any contempt for his fans, Basically, what I'm saying is that if he didn't say that stuff to begin with, I wouldn't have a problem with him ditching his name, wanting to be a star, etc. Don't expect me to be a Rock fan again if he does show up again, which I doubt now. Rock isn't a wrestler anymore, he's no longer under contract to WWE. He's an actor. And the last time Rock wrestled, he did a job to help get Evolution over. So he has done what's good for business. Flair didn't really hold Foley down. Foley just felt that Flair didn't appreciate him. Rock's a full-time actor, he's not a wrestler anymore. Why should he come back when he doesn't have to, just to face a guy who he dislikes? Wrestling fans can be so ungreatful at times.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 It’s amazing the sense of entitlement that “fans” like Downhome and BVD have in regards to The Rock. I still fail to see exactly what The Rock has done wrong, “The Rock” is clearly a nickname and it was fine for his initial foray into the movie business, especially with the action movies but with The Rock’s transition into be a legitimate actor and not just a wrestler/movie star hybrid as he once was…that would require him to drop that nickname. Point to where he is slamming the wrestling business. Here is his exact wording… Johnson said his days of slamming opponents in the ring are "absolutely" over. "I decided to quietly get out of wrestling" in order to focus on acting and to spend more time with family, he said. "I've been out for three years now." All that he ever said was, “That part of my life is over”. He didn’t call the business a joke (although he has voiced his opinion on the current state of affairs in the recent past). He didn’t criticize the fans. He just said “I’m out of that business”. He just simply asked to be referred by his actual name when Southland Tales is released. I laugh at that idiotic statement that The Rock isn’t being professional in regards to working with Shawn. If anything, Rock was one of the most professional workers in the business and that he needs to be “professional” to someone who is the antithesis of professional. The Rock isn’t being insincere by “kissing the fans asses” by saying he misses the atmosphere of wrestling, because he does but that isn’t his life anymore. That part was his past and it’s behind him now. Thus, the desire to be known by his actual name. The Rock was a character and he isn’t playing that character anymore. So why he should he keeps the name? So pay homage to something of his past? Does that mean William Shatner should go around and only announce himself as Captain James T. Kirk? Why should The Rock be held captive by a former character? Why should people like you feel such entitlement? It’s his life, identity and future.
Mecca 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Only wrestling fans would bash a guy for actually using the business and getting into a better position. Vince uses and abuses wrestlers and spits them out when they're old and don't have it anymore......The Rock used wrestling to get to where he is now, he is still respectful of the business and understands that got him where he is now. What's the problem? I'd understand if he talked shit on wrestling now but he doesn't. The equivalent to this would be if you worked for a company for 5 years, worked your ass become the best employee in the company but worked constantly putting alot of undue strain on yourself. You get offered a better position from a bigger company that pays more but also affords you more time off and less work to do. You'd be a fool to not take it, so you take it. Would you expect everyone you work with and all your friends and people who know you to tell you that you'r selling out and your an asshole for taking a better job that requires less work and gives you more time at home?
