Franklin fought like an idiot. Terrible gameplan.

I give Florian respect, I didn't expect him to last so long. But I think Sherk's style matches up very badly with Kenny's. In fact, I'm hard pressed to think of anybody in the UFC at 155 that has good enough takedown defense or wrestling to be able to match up well against Sherk.

Not very smart gameplanning.

Bring back Tanner. Tanner will say fuck it to the stand-up and shoot the double leg if you won't Mr. Math. Does that make me craazzzzzzzzzzzzziiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeee?

That was abrupt. The only positive to Silva winning is we may get Silva/Leben II: The Second Red Headed Stepchild Beating

The other overrated TUF heel should be next, Herman. Or UFC could always bring back Jermany Horn.

Anderson Silva could take all 4 of the semi-finalist the same night and still win. Matt Serra could put up a meaningful match up due to him being the star of TUF4 since he would be smart enough to take it the ground and last until the 2nd round where he would get tired and KO'd by a knee. Shonie Carter would have a great entrance but thats about it the spinning backfist can't save him here, KO in 3 minutes. Din Thomas, would make a nice Ultimate Fight Night main event and might go 2 rounds before he gets KO'd by a flying knee.

Anderson Silva is UNSTOPPABLE unless they bring in somebody from PRIDE.

Hahahahahahahaha is my reaction to the main event.

I can't believe you would even say that. Anderson is almost eight to ten inches taller than Serra. He would eat a knee before he could even begin to think about attempting a takedown.

I still say Silva is very flawed, and if someone would have swallowed their pride and took him down instead of trying to stand up with him, it would have been a different fight. Seriously, the guy doesn't have strong take down defense or ground defense, but you want to stand with him so he can punch you in your fucking face and knee the shit out of you....genius.

Considering the two closest contenders are Swick & Marquardt, an overconfident striker with a weak defense & underachieving narcoleptic respectively, Silva's toughest competition on the horizon may ironically be Okami, who if nothing else knows what he brings to the game and would have no qualms shooting for the single leg all night long.

Of course, I'd be remiss to not mention Lindland & Salaverry, both of whom are tied up elsewhere.

Yeah but two of those losses were due to submissions that rarely get pulled out and get a tapout less then that.

But don't think Franklin didn't want to try a flying heel hook or topside triangle.

But it's not as though either loss was ENTIRELY flukish, either. Takase controlled him pretty much the entire fight, and Chonan had held his own throughout most of the fight.

Why are you mentioning all these welterweights/lightweights? They are not fighting for that chance at Silva's title, they are fighting for a chance at the welterweight title.

I dissagree, I think Silva has alright takedown defense. Not to mention he's a black belt in brazilian jiu jitzu, even though he never shows it.

What if Matt went to one knee at the begining of the fight? If Serra tries to stand up with Silva he would eat knees and kicks the better strategy would be going for the takedown as soon as possible and go the ground & pound.

I agree. He is just "alright" at it. It is his weakness though, as I don't think there are many people that can stand with him. so why not attack the weak part of the guys arsenal instead of trying to be toughy mctougherson and stand with him. Thats what will make you a animated gif the next day.

Silva has pretty good submission defense though, the submission losts he has were submissions that were rarely seen.

Plus it's hard to go for a takedown with a muay thai specialist like that, because Silva is quick enough to catch you with a knee. Just look what he did to Carlos Newton.

Okami can beat Anderson Silva, but that title match would never happen.

I disagree.

I think Silva would KO him also. The only person I can see beating Silva at 185 is Matt Lindland. Even then I would put my money on Silva.

Okami has the all-around skills necessary to defeat Silva, plus the ability to exploit Silva's ground weaknesses. Silva is not the unbeatable superman everyone is making him out to be now. Yes, he is VERY, VERY, good, but you guys should know from watching as long as we have that nobody is unbeatable and everybody can be beaten on any given night by anybody...

...except Fedor :P

Phew.....I was gonna say, isn't there a certain Russian we should be praising right now?

Watched the post-show press conference today on TFN, Dana mentioned that TUF V is going to be all 155'ers and that he's not interested in new talent. Said they were looking for the cream of the crop to build the division around and produce contenders. Mentioned they have 5 shows planned for The U.K in 2007 and that in three years he expects they'll be the most dominant global fight promotion.

What about Dean Lister coming up in the 185 division. I'm sure his conditioning will be a non-issue in his next fight. Tito should be helping him with that. I see no reason he doesn't get Anderson on the ground and work him into a submission.

Lister will need at least another two fights under his belt before he's ready. Dana said at the press conference that he'd like to see Swick fight once more before he's ready for a title shot. Silva will be tied up with Swick, maybe Marquadt, the TUF winner and a possible Franklin rematch in 2007, I don't see Dean fitting in on the UFC's list of priorities.
