DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Nice string of SO's for Nate while runners were on 3rd and 2nd. Let's score some more runs, Tigers!
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Nice that the A's can't get any baserunners across thus far after four innings(when I think they had runners in scoring position 3/4 innings), while the Tigers score 5 runs in one inning, in a bunch of different possibly ways.......*ugh* Is it just me, and I am probably not the first to think or say this, but the A's pitching staff is kind of like a sheep in wolves clothing. As a UNIT they are pretty good, but none of the parts as a single pitcher is elite when you compare one-on-one matchups to other great pitching staffs around the league. I mean look at the 2 of the Big three that are not on the A's anymore, on their own, Hudson and Mulder are merely "good" pitchers, hardly regarded like they were when they were part of "The Big Three" Also, Zito has never gotten back to his Cy Young form, not even close. Right now I'd say Harden is the only one that has "elite" stuff, even though I'd hardly call him an elite pitcher YET, just because he is too inconsistent and constantly injured. I guess the reason that rant came out, is because I am so tired of the A's pitching staff always being heralded as being great and this and that, only to always dissapoint in big games when they are going against other elite pitchers. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Awesome catch right there, especially since a run would have been scored otherwise.
Justice 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Ouch. That was a momentum-killer. That's two innings with near scores.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Oh for god sakes (re:announcers). Even a team with lots of team speed is going NOWHERE with a five run deficit.

devo 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 That was cringe-inducing. You know it's bad when you're able to see the muscle blow out through the player's pant leg.

Guest Felonies! Report post Posted October 11, 2006 I liked when he was talking about Leyland's desire to win and said "he reminds me of another manager, someone that won the World Series with the Reds!" and Lou was like "...well, hahah, I like to win!" I wanted him to go, "no, not you, you idiot! Sparky Anderson!"
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 3rd straight game where the Tigers just utterly DOMINATED the other team. Hell, that double-run HR by the Yankees at the very end was almost garbage-time-flukish. It's just Tiger city.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Steve Lyons' laugh is so damn annoying. Even more so after Lou's "jokes".

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Tigers' pitching has to get some credit for holding the A's down, but the A's have themselves to blame for poor at-bat after at-bat with RISP. This should've been a much closer game. It's stupid to count out a team after the first game, but if the A's don't get the hitting with RISP together, forget about it. MFer 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 I feel really good for Brandon Inge after having a rough ALDS and being one of the members of that 119 loss team in 2003.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 As an A's fan, I guess the one positive I can take from the game is that the A's constantly had runners on and in scoring position all game long. Yes, I know they couldn't get them home, but contrast that with the Tigers offense which exploded for one inning and then for the most part died off for the rest of the game, and I would have to say that over a seven game series, the A's scoring problem is the more likely to get corrected. Aw.....what the hell do I know!?!
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 the a's should be happy that casey is out. their only real big left handed bat. the tigers have a thin bench, losing anyone hurts. maybe neifi can get some at-bats.
Scroby 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 damnit. Damn Tigers. A's will hopefully pick up game 2.
Bored 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 4 Double Plays. New League Record. So I saw history? Um, yay? I was sitting down the line in left field in that one section that is on the fair side of the foul pole and the Inge homerun landed two rows in front of me. The guy who got the ball got a lot of shit for not throwing it back but they eject you in Oakland if you throw the ball back. Apparantly Inge wanted the ball as security asked the guy to come with him and he was offered a signed bat but turned it down but not like he's going to get any money for it. I also saw about six different fights tonight and one fan punching a cop but I unfortunately couldn't see the beatdown that ensued. Other than that, the game blew. Really pathetic performance by the A's offense as that should have been a much closer game if they could have done anything with runners on. Oh well at least it was only Game 1.
