Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 What do you guys consider to be THE holy grail of NFL records? Career rushing yards? TDs? Wins? The Holy Grail is without a doubt the Perfect Season from the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Everybody knows about that one and comparisons have been made to them every year since whenever some team starts off at 5-0.

The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 For individual players, I'd probably have to say the career rushing yards record. "Featured" running backs might have the shortest average career span out of all the skill position players and, to approach that mark, you've got to be a good running back for a long, long time. Given the constant risk for injury, advances that defenses make each year and the recent propensity for coaches to use a RB-by-committee to spell their runners, I think it could be a long time before we see anybody approach that record ever again. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 Along the lines of individual records, I don't know how 61,000 passing yards isn't desirable. Brett Favre's been playing a long time, and he is still like 5,000 behind.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 Aside from the perfect season I'd think that the first ever 3-peat (in the SB era) would be an amazing achievement.
Guest Legalise Drugs and Murder Report post Posted December 18, 2006 Here's a weird one. Not really a record, just a fascinating statistic. There hasn't been a game with 0 penalites since 1940
razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 Along the lines of individual records What about 2000 yards rushing for a season or the longest field goal record of 64 yards?
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 The FG record of distance isn't even the top record for FG's. We're getting used to players kicking 54-60 yards on regular basis. It's only a matter of time for someone to knock it in at 68 yards. (It's just a case of coaches not willing to do this, yet). I think the consecutive FG's made record (which I'm not going to bother looking up) us most important in regards to Kickers.

Brett Favre's been playing a long time, and he is still like 5,000 behind. Passing yards isn't an indicator of great play, though. It's more a sign of what kind of system you played in, and that you played a ton of games. And more than half the time, the losing team has more passing yards than the winners. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 True. However Marino did it while playing on decent Dolphins teams. Peyton might break it, and he's been on good Colts squads.

Distance is one thing that can never be taken away from a kicker we already seen what happened to the supposed most accurate kicker in the league. If anybody does break the distance record in this era it should have a asterisk next to it stating what kind of turf it was played on and weather conditions. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2006 Along the lines of individual records What about 2000 yards rushing for a season or the longest field goal record of 64 yards? I would guess Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record would be the biggest single season achievement for a RB. Could be the case for the entire NFL. 2,000 receiving yards would be quite the achievement. Tomlinson looks like he can make a run at Jerry Rice's career TD mark. Things can change in a hurry. Guest Report post Posted December 19, 2006 Mason Crosby's gonna break the FG record at some point in his NFL career.
Guest Legalise Drugs and Murder Report post Posted December 19, 2006 Jerry Rice's records are just insane. 1,500+ catches? That's almost 1.5 times higher than the next two guys on the list. Ditto his 22,000 yards.

Then we should certainly asterisk Dempsey for having the goal posts at the front of the end zone rather than the back... and he kicked it in good weather conditions too (e.g. no rain or snow or howling winds). If anything, making a 60+ FG now is much harder because the kicker has to kick it an additional 4-5 yards just to reach the goal posts, let alone be gaurunteed to put it through. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 I would just like to say that DeMeco Ryans got screwed out of a Pro Bowl start. The guy has pretty incredible stats for a MLB (137 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 INT) but Al Wilson got in despite lesser numbers (somewhere around 95 tackles, 1 sack, no INTs). I guess being a name player and playing on a team that doesn't suck ass counts for more than I thought.
devo 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 I'm happy Justin Miller was chosen as Punt Returner, but at the same time, I'm kinda annoyed Laverneus Coles didn't receive any recognition for the great year he's having. Too much talent to beat, I guess.

Too much talent to beat, I guess. Coles went through a stretch there of about 5 or 6 games where he did absolute shit...I should know, I had him on my fantasy team. He hasn't been very consistent as opposed to Cotchery who seemed to be the Reggie Wayne to Cole's Marvin Harrison this season.
