But yeah, LT has been football's best player (offensively or defensively) for a couple years now. Not a surprise, and he definitely deserves an MVP over fucking asshole Peyton Manning. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 21, 2006 Check out the AFC Wild Card chase: Right now our division leaders are the Pats, Colts, Ravens, and Chargers. I find it doubtful that any of those are going to change barring a total collapse, aside from maaaaaaaybe San Diego, who plays in the toughest division in football. Here's who is OUT. DONE. Oakland, Cleveland, Houston, Tennessee, and Buffalo. With a complete and total miracle from god, and a complete and total collapse of a couple other contenders, I can see Pittsburgh and Miami having a faint outside chance if they can somehow win out. In the real world, here's who's in the mix for the wildcard. Denver leads, with Jacksonville and Kansas City tied at 6-4. The Bengals have a decent shot at 5-5, and the friggin' JETS are 5-5. Denver has arguably the toughest road @ KC, Seattle, @ San Diego, Cincinnati, and San Francisco. @ Arizona is a gimme. They absolutely HAVE to take care of business at home against two really good teams to lock up a spot in the playoffs. Those divisional road games though, ouch. I think they'll probably split with San Diego (but it's a very losable game), but I'm not so sure they beat KC at Arrowhead. Denver is 7-3..I think they lose to either Cincinnati or Seattle, and KC. So there's two losses. 11-5 at best? Kansas City still has Cleveland and Oakland. Nice spot to have padding on the schedule. Their only killer road game is @ San Diego. They have both Denver and Baltimore at home. Jacksonville goes on the road against Buffalo, Miami, and Tennessee. Not too bad. Buffalo is awful, Miami is hit or miss, and Tennessee finds ways to lose. They DO have New England and Indy at home, which are two of the top three teams in the conference. So what's cool here? Jacksonville and Kansas City face off at Arrowhead the last week of the season in a game that will probably be win+in/lose+out. Talk about a bloodbath. Lets look at New York. They have cupcakes left, which is incredibly fortunate. Houston, Buffalo, and Oakland all at home, and on the road against Minnesota, Miami, and Green Bay. They could quite possibly win 5 of those and get in if KC and Jacksonville can't finish against their tough schedule. The massacre to Jacksonville kills their tiebreaker hopes, though. Pretty incredible for the team I picked to be one of the worst in the league at the start of the season. Cincinnati is the most unlikely candidate to me, with Baltimore, and then Indy and Denver in a row, on the road both times. Ouch. That's three really really tough games to win. They'll beat Cleveland and Oakland. If they win two out of three against the Ravens, Colts, and Broncos, there's Pittsburgh at the end of the season to play spoiler. The gap between Shaun Alexander and LT isn't that large, but Hasselbeck is a much better quarterback than Rivers is at this point. If they could somehow sneak by JAX and SD at home, there's a good possibility of a jobber run to 9-6. Then, the season finale @BAL, which may be meaningless for the Ravens. They are not anywhere near as bad as their record shows. The Baltimore games will be hard as hell, though. If KC gets the job back from Denver on Thanksgiving, then can beat SD who they always play tough, they have a good shot at getting the division. The only game of the ones they have left I see them not being able to win is against the Colts since it is in Indy. They can beat the Patriots in Miami since Brady tends to have poor games in Miami. Jacksonville is definately beatable. 10-6 could very well get them into the playoffs but 9-7 is where they might end up finishing. Course, the quarterback is still Joey Harrington. It's unlikely 3 teams from the West will finish with 10 wins, plus KC loses virtually every tiebreak due to their awful conference record. Then, you've got JAX at 6-4, and a bunch of mediocre teams. Tim Carter and Michael Jennings are operating as their #2/#3's and Eli can't do well with players who realistically are #4/#5s on the depth chart. Eli Manning himself has been playing poorly. His last 4 games in QB Rating... vs. Tennessee: 59.10 (12) vs. Jacksonville: 51.90 (11) vs. Chicago: 28.30 (10) vs. Houston: 76.30 (9) The Giants aren't winning any games if Manning continues to be so poor. His accuracy was solid against poor defenses (Tennessee/Houston) but the O-Coordinator has been limiting him tremendously. His YPA the last 4 games: 5.1, 5.6, 3.8, and 6.4. As for the defense, the following starters are injured: Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora, Barry Cofield, Brandon Short, Carlos Emmons, Sam Madison, and Corey Webster. They've also lost LaVar Arrington and Justin Tuck to IR. Their upcoming schedule is brutal too. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2006 I was on the "Giants are fucked" bandwagon, until I looked at the standings and realized there'd have to be a pretty bad team that would make the playoffs if the Giants didn't (unless it was Atlanta, but I think they're REALLY fucked). If they go 3-2 in their last 5, they'll almost certainly get in. Even 2-3 gives them a decent shot at 8-8, given that the teams chasing them are 5-6 San Fran, 5-6 St. Louis, 5-6 Atlanta, 5-6 Minnesota, and 5-6 Philadelphia. Their conference record would give them a good chance to win a tiebreaker against any of those teams. As for whether they'll make a good showing in the playoffs...no, I think they'll get beaten up pretty good against any of the division winners. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
