bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 He's a nigger! He's a nigger! He's a nigger! A nigger, look, there's a nigger!" Good lord, it's like a KKK version of Kramer. I can even imagine Kramer's voice screaming it, he slides into the door to Jerry's apartment, drinking a can of soda, sees Jerry making out with a black chick, spits out the soda and starts screaming it. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 The dude looks coked out of his mind. Anyway, I'm not going to defend what Richards said, but I'm not going to believe he's a racist for it. It seems to me just a terribly misguided attempt at shock humor.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 hey this thread should be getting close to the point where we start seeing the obligatory "white people who are more upset about the fact that they can't call blacks 'nigger' while blacks get to use it in a friendly manner with each other, than they are about the incident" posts! Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 As repulsive as what Richards was saying, I can't bring myself to be offended by it. It was stupid and idiotic of him, but really, Bill Hicks would launch into some vile, misogynistic rants at female audience members who offended him somehow. Hicks wasn't even trying to be funny then; he would have an out-an-out meltdown. I wasn't offended by those and I'm not applying a double-standard here. The difference is that Hicks was talented enough to turn the crowd around and get them back on his side. Richards doesn't have the talent to pull that off. the max 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 People who heckle comedians deserve to be hung upside down with a fucking fork up their ass Well, what if they suck? Leave. People don't pay to see hecklers. The comedian is there to entertain the audience, not just you. It's one thing to heckle the tv or a mostly empty movie theatre. But the line is drawn when you disrupt a show because you think that you're absolutely fucking hysterical. If you think you're that funny, go to an open mike night and see just how unfunny you are. the max 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 What if it was The Amazing Rando, or Dane Cook? I know it's hip to hate Dane Cook, but I dare you to heckle him at one of his shows.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted November 20, 2006 Who fucking cares? Heckling is part of stand-up; the good ones know how to deal with it and turn the crowd against the heckler. Why are you acting like this is a fucking Gilbert & Sullivan show?
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted November 20, 2006 Who fucking cares? Heckling is part of stand-up To clarify, it's not an integral part of every single show, but if it does happen, they know how to deal.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 What if it was The Amazing Rando, or Dane Cook? I know it's hip to hate Dane Cook, but I dare you to heckle him at one of his shows. That would imply someone above the age of 20 and not female wanting to go to one of his shows. Heckling is all part of the show, the best can handle it and turn it around. If they can't handle a heckler, they aren't going to be able to become a good comedian. Hell, I've met some managers who have paid someone to heckle their guy so they can turn it as a way to show how good they are. Plus it's usually just some drunk guy who security gets out in a few minutes anyway. That said, Richards is screwed. He made a huge mistake, never do the racist stuff. He might have just toasted his ass with this cause a "I'm sorry" doesn't save you from the racism charge.

There wasn't an ounce of humor or wit in Hicks calling an audience member a cunt and accusing her of being what's wrong with America. He'd spout it off like some sweaty, drug-fueled maniac, not unlike what Richards is doing in that video. EDIT: I watched the Richards video again, and it could've been funny—the fork comment, for instance—but he got carried away.
randomguy 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 Poor attempt at shock humor but it really wasn't offensive. A lot of people laughed at the first line. and this was pretty funny: "Well that's what happens when you interrupt a white man!" Obviously he was not 100% serious. This is nothing like Mel Gibson. Being offensive and going for shock value is something comedians do. It was bad comedy and nothing more. Who cares?
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 kramer is just bitter. because he is only known as kramer. watching kramer be so mean was kinda vile. hecklers are lame in every form. like sporting events. the performance of his racism seemed kinda forced. CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 Thoughts: - I don't necessarily buy into the thought that "Well, just dropping one N-Bomb makes you racist". People slip up, and even comedians should be exempt as well. But that many times? I can't really give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. - I don't think Richards heard the woman close to the cam say "Oh my God" after the first n word, but if he did, that should certainly prove there was something more to this than "shock comedy". - The article linked here said the hecklers were "playfully teasing him", which seems a little excessively defensive. But that's, until we learn more (which I doubt we will, as this is a pretty sexy entertainment story), as far as my defence goes for him.
randomguy 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 Like my friend (who goes to clubs a lot) says, if you don't want to be offended by a stand-up comedian don't go. It went over very poorly with the crowd especially as it dragged on, but it was just a poor decision. It wasn't a "slip up", obviously he thought it would be shocking and at least marginally funny, and parts of it *were* funny. Obviously he wasn't 100% serious, would a 100% serious person really say "that's what happens when you interrupt a white man?" And the crowd did laugh at the initial joke, he just took it too far. It happens. Trying to dissect whether or not he is racist is foolish. It is stand-up, these things happen.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 people slip up? dude said nigger like 18 times. thats no slip up. he meant what he said. but yes, stand up is stand up. it was funny in a train wreck sorta way.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 wow, some people need a reality check. You're on a stage, people start heckling you... immediatly launching into repeated racist remarks (barely any actual jokes even) at the person, flying into a rage, and calling them a 'nigger' over and over again isn't an acceptable response, period. Jesus christ. Seriously. What kind of person sees a black person irritating you and immediatly starts thinking "God what a nigger", and then starts calling him nigger 15 times? Anyone who thinks that was a remotely acceptable response is a complete moron. I couldn't really care what happened to Kramer, but I'm just genuinely surprised that there are people in this thread who think this is even remotely close to being in the same orbit of acceptable or "understandable" response to a heckler.
