MrRant Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 He more or less said that black athletes would perform better for black coaches because a white coach doesn't understand the trials of a young black athelete. He also goes on to say that when a white coach tells a black athlete to do something, black athletes (Himself included) wouldn't respond to that disipline because the white coach doesn't know what a young man has been through.
Hawk 34 Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I thought the more interesting part of the whole thing was Marino trying not say something racist in front of Carter (whom was basically begging Marino for it).

I haven't seen the interview, but that sounds freakin' stupid. However, I'm not sure if it's stupider that he believes it or that he came out and said it.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I thought the more interesting part of the whole thing was Marino trying not say something racist in front of Carter (whom was basically begging Marino for it). What?
Guest Princess Leena Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 With the way American culture handles racism, it's not surprising LJ feels that way. And, of course, there won't be a big deal about these comments.
naiwf Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Come on, we all know black people can't be racist.
-DeN- Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Cue the "Double Standard/He won't be fired/This won't be reported on by the mainstream media" whiney bullshit. Hit the music.
teke184 Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 ..so Art Shell is white? Art Shell's perception by his players may be altered by the fact that he used to work directly for the NFL and, in effect, was a flunky of The Man.
Guest Princess Leena Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Cue the "Double Standard/He won't be fired/This won't be reported on by the mainstream media" whiney bullshit. Hit the music. Lolz.
Cartman Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Yes. I loved how Carter was all offended by Marino and Costas's comments.
Black Lushus Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 well...I'm sure there are a lot of black athletes that feel the same way. Now whether they actually practice that line of thinking or not is another story. I find it hard to believe that anyone, black or white, would not listen to or respect Dick Vermeil. Even Larry Johnson. His arguement could be a little more valid if a black coach had actually ever won a Superbowl. Personally, I can't wait to hear Tom Jackson and Michael Irvin's blubbering about the comments.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I never saw black athletes respond better to black coaches than white coaches because the white coach doesn't know what the black athlete has been through in his life ever ... ever.
Black Lushus Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 NOBODY MOTIVATES BLACK ATHLETES LIKE DENNY GREEN!
The Man in Blak Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 So that's why Michael Vick has been struggling. It all makes sense now.
Black Lushus Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 of course, that whole philosophy TOTALLY works in the NBA...Isiah Thomas is doing a bang up job getting his black athletes to play so well together!
kkktookmybabyaway Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 But what if a black athlete had a middle- to upper-class upbringing? Wouldn't this house negro be more comfortable with whitey at the helm? Wow, race relations really are complicated. He also goes on to say that when a white coach tells a black athlete to do something, black athletes (Himself included) wouldn't respond to that disipline because the white coach doesn't know what a young man has been through. I would guess it's because black people don't respond well to authority. How else could so many of them be in jail?
Guest Princess Leena Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 NOBODY MOTIVATES BLACK ATHLETES LIKE DENNY GREEN! THE BEARS WERE WHAT WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!! I think that's racist against Lovie Smith. Just watching Art Shell on the sidelines motivates me to kick some ass.
NoCalMike Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Yeah when Snyder fired Norv Turner in 2000 with three games left in the season, and all the Redskins had to do was win one of their last three games to make the playoffs, they suuuuuuuuuuuurely rallied around new interm coach Terry Robiskie....LO F'N L.

I thought they did win one of those 3 games and still missed the playoffs?
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 They beat Arizona in the finale. But they had no chance when the NFC had 8 teams with superior records than them.
NoCalMike Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 They beat Arizona in the finale. But they had no chance when the NFC had 8 teams with superior records than they. Maybe they had to win two of the final three so by the time the finale came, they were already mathmatically eliminated. 2000 was a depressing season.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 The lowest seed in the NFC that year had 2 games over on Washington.
Slayer Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 That 2000 Redskins team was the sexy preseason SB pick because of all their free-agent acquisitions That 2000 Redskins team is also the reason why we now know better
randomguy Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 LJ is just like that. There was a good piece on him in SI or ESPN a while ago. He has a huge chip on his shoulder. Everybody is always out to get him and he always has some excuse.

kkktookmybabyaway Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 He was? Then what's he bitching about?
2GOLD Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 He was? Then what's he bitching about? He got tired of being called a fantasy football bust and wanted to be known for something else. As for Art Shell, one of these games I'm sure I'm going to turn the Raiders on and Shell will be reading a Cosmo Girl magazine or "NFL coaching for dummies" on the sideline.
Guest Princess Leena Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 All dem white boyz took Reggie Bush over him. Reggie gets points for stretching the field for Colston.
MillenniumMan831 Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 The Browns need more black players to relate to Romeo Crenell. Maybe getting Rodney Peete out of retirement to replace Charlie Frye would be a good start.
