King Kamala 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 I hate to be nitpicky but Bad Day by Daniel Powter is at least a year and half old. I have Live 8 on DVD (Which took place in July '05) and he plays it at the Berlin concert. Apparently the song was a hit in Europe six months before it hit the States. Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted December 24, 2006 "You're Beautiful" is an 05er too. I'll go with "Sexyback." I don't understand why music elitists are fawning over Justin Timberlake as "dirty pop brilliance" or "the next Prince" or whatever. No he isn't.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" - Panic At The Disco "A Public Affair" - Jessica Simpson Agreed on "Wind It Up" and "Fergilicious" also.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 Well, the suck of "You're Beautiful" carried over into 2006.

UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 Justin Timberlake has a good voice, but I don't see any discernable musical talent there. Unbelievable production by The Neptunes on Justified and Timbaland on FutureSex/LoveSounds are what made those albums. I mean, SexyBack would be a catchy song no matter who was singing it, IMO. That song is all Timbaland.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 you could say the same thing about thriller. not that this album is thriller.

Toshiaki Koala 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 The opening to Fergalicious sounds so similar to that of Donkey Kong 64's DK Rap that I can't bring myself to hate it. Whenever the song comes on, I'm like, fuck yeah, it's the fuckin' DK Rap. And then it's not... but the good feeling of thinking it is somehow carries over, allowing me to leave the room before the rest of the song can really get to me. Ya know? Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 If I heard any of these Fergie songs, I'm sure they'd be the worst. I remember hearing about 10 seconds of it on some cellular company commercial (forgot which provider) where a guy walks up to his friend (you, in first-person) and says "Man, you have got to hear this new Fergie song!" as he puts the headphones on you and you hear this awful mess with awful "I'm the F to the E to the R-G-I-E" and oh man... if my friend did that to me I'd have to hit him. Ripper 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 Something just plain wrong happened this year. I didn't completely hate Fergie's album or the Pussy Cat Dolls album. Although I know I should have....I just...didn't. But that girl with thepussy cat dolls can really sing though. Then there are ther other ones that are just there. Anyway, I wouldn't call their albums good or anything but they weren't horrible either. That just doesn't feel right.
Guest Bammey Report post Posted December 24, 2006 "The Kill" - 30STM "London Bridge" Fergie "The Black Parade"- MCR And if Underoath released anything this year most likely that too.
Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted December 24, 2006 Actually, that Black Parade song isn't one of my worst. The singer is awful, and the whole "will you be the savior of the damned?" thing is a little silly, but there are a few good ideas in there, musically. I think that's the nicest way of saying "That shit is awful, but there's like 1 thing that isn't so awful, so don't cut yourself" I've ever seen. Had to quote it. Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted December 24, 2006 Y'know, this could pass for a pretty good Arcade Fire song with a little tweaking here and there, at least up until like the 1.20 mark when it goes to shit, and the 2-minute mark when it goes to shit +1. At the 1-minute mark that guitar stuff is obviously Queen, btw. But anyway. It's already a fusion of bombastic anthemic rock and unconventional instrumentation (marching snares, piano, flutes), so just sub out the generic whiny emo singer for Win Butler and his French wife hopping up and down singing about "doin' it for the kids!", get the Napoleon Dynamite doppelganger hitting some drum really hard, then go to a coda with the same accelerated disco-style drum beat as the other songs on the album, and you're in business. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 I wish My Chemical Toilet just kept doing stuff like that "I'm Not OK" song. Back then, they were easy to dislike. Now, they're somewhat not horrible and at least have some interesting and enjoyable music parts in between the suck.
Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2006 working in a gym where it's all top 40 all the time allows me to make a list this year. "Call Me When You're Sober" - Evanescence "Show Me What You Got" - Jay-Z "Too Little Too Late" - JoJo "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" - Panic "Buttons" and "SOS" are wayyy too catchy for their own good.
