So, I'm looking to buy a gun.

I want a gun for protection.

From what I understand of the laws here, there's only permits for handguns and concealed weapons. Whatever those are. I don't want to go through all that shit. Rifles and shotguns appear to be no trouble for someone like me who's yet to have been arrested.

What type of gun should I look for that would instantly kill people, and is reasonably priced?

Thanks.

Shotgun. If double barrelled, load one with buckshot so you don't have to worry about missing too much but if they still keep coming, you have a slug in the other that will probably kill them.

And the sound of it racking usually scares people off.

You're better off avoiding the permit route. I went with it for my Sig and my switchblade that I carry in my pocket and the fee and waiting time was out and out ridiculous. They say 90 days, but of course, I was dealing with state employees, so that got kicked up to around 120. It's bullshit.

That said, I agree with Rant. A Remington 870 is the way to go.

Regardless of brand, which changes from gun owner to gun owner, the most versatile weapon you can possibly own for self defense or sport is a pump action .12 gauge shotgun. They're affordable and common, as is the ammunition, and no one stays standing after taking a slug in the torso. Rant already mentioned the sound of racking the slide, which has a profound psychological effect on anyone, even if they've never really heard the sound before.

The only drawback is they're not something to tote around in a purse, so if you're nervous about getting mugged, get a small reliable handgun through all the proper legal channels, because breaking gun laws are like breaking drug laws in most states. Don't bother with anything smaller than a 9mm.

You're suggesting she get a gun illegally, or is it possible to buy a gun without a permit?

I think my main point in my post (which wasn't worded properly on my part) was to get a shotgun and not a concealed weapons permit (like I have). That was the main jist. I think (and I'm not sure) that you're allowed a shotgun in your house without having to wait for a permit.

Other than NYC and maybe a couple states, no permits or anything are needed with shotguns.

That's the route I will go. Thanks.

I'd never been scared by the mere "title + starter" combination of a thread until today.

Almost any title + "started by: Mr Rant" usually scares me. That or "Pictures I like" "Last post: Mr Rant"

Get a Tommy Gun. Then you can just cut people in half with the extreme number of shells. Granted I'm pretty sure they are illegal everywhere and impossible to find, but if you know the proper places to bury a body then no one is going to ask questions.

No one.

And if they do? You have a Tommy Gun. Just repeat the process.

But if you MUST avoid the killing spree, Rant's idea is the best.

Oh c'mon, I'm armed to the teeth, hallucinate occasionally, and live within driving distance of you. You're worried about her?

Leena should take self defense classes instead of buying a gun.

What good would that do. All the jujitsu in the world won't stop someone with weaponry.

I'll only be using the gun at my house. Since I actually own something now. If anyone intrudes, it is my duty to kill them.
