Ideas for WWE Box Sets

Recommended Posts

OK...with the success (I'm assuming) of the WrestleMania Box Set, and the Royal Rumble box set, I had to think: what would be some other good box sets for WWE to release?

Obviously Summerslam and Survivor Series would be the next two, but what about others?

Some I had:

-The Saturday Night's Main Event/The Main Event Collection (They were short enough to fit two per disc...and if they go double sided disks, you could put 4 shows on one disk)

-The WCW Starrcade Collection. (Yeah, I know WWE hates WCW, but there could be money to be made off of that, right?)

-The ECW PPV Collection (How many PPVs did the original ECW have? Would it be enough for a collection?)

-The In Your House Collection (My least favorite of my ideas I had, but it would fill gaps)

And as a DVD to release that isn't part of a collection.

-The Wrestling Classic (it was WWF's first wide-PPV released event, so why not?)

Anyone have other ideas? Comments? So forth?

Personally, I would be an In Your House boxed set above all else, including Wrestlemania which I own due to an amazing sale price; or the Rumble set. This may be due to the fact I am a mark for the mid-90s era.

How would you do "In Your House: Beware of Dog" though?

To remind you: that was the event where the power went out except for the first and last matches.

The same way they did the VHS release - The first two matches on the tape are the two matches taped from the original broadcast, which are then followed by the do-over matches from the Tuesday "replay" of the show.

Didn't Wrestlemania III run against the first ever Clash Of The Champions? I wouldn't mind having a "Clash Of The Champions" collection...maybe not every single match, but like a "best of" (i know you said box sets, but they did TONS of those damn things).

I wouldn't mind having every single Starrcade, even if some of them kinda stunk...

I myself was an 11 year old mark at the replay show back in 96...The PPV was in Florence,SC that Sunday..I don't remember where RAW was but I remember Goldust giving Ahmed Johnson Mouth to mouth... And in Charleston, SC that tuesday. Back then Tuesdays was still TV taping day but it was Superstars...I thinked they taped 1 show then they redid from the PPV The Caribbean strap match(Savio Vega vs. Steve Austin) and the casket Match(Undertaker vs. Goldust)..then taped a couple more Superstars....then we got a couple dark matches with Goldust vs Shawn Michaels as the Main Event for the WWF Title...Solid 4 hour show...Honestly that was the best show I've been to

I want a Starcade collection more then I did the Mania one.

As for the Clash of the Champions collection, they would have to do a best of and just take some of the best matches and moments. Alot of important shit happened on the COTC shows.

A Best of Nitro would be nice to.

And a Best of WCW, with matches from various PPVs.

Man I'd buy them shits the day they hit the stores.

All right, I just checked...

There were 35 total Clash of the Champions events.

NOW, depending on their length (cause I don't remember how long Clash of the Champions events were), you could feasibly fit at least two per disk, if again, they go with the double-sided format.

I say that because I had that idea with the Saturday Night's Main Event/The Main Event collection I listed above...as there were over 30 Saturday Night's Main Events and 5 The Main Events

Nope. That stuff happened long before Russo ever came to the company. The stupidity of the WCW braintrust over the years makes Russo's stuff look like Shakespeare.

For the record, it was WrestleMania IV that ran against the first "Clash", not III.

What ran against III? I could have sworn I read somewhere that a few minutes after the ending to Savage/Steamboat (the suplex-to-small-package), the EXACT SAME finish was done at an NWA show...

ok this may sound a bit crap and it isnt much of a box set, maybe more of a two disc, but how about a greatest gimminks dvd, for example bushwackers, adam bomb etc, bit like the greatest managers dvd :(

I'd never thought I'd see the Bushwhackers and Adam Bomb mentioned in the same sentence as greatest gimmicks.

Back on topic, I'd like to see Special Edition releases of the best PPVs from the past. Make them 2 or 3 disc editions that have the unedited show, plus angles leading up to the event, special commentaries from the participants, historical information, etc.

What about The Great American Bash at the Beach! If they combine the Great American Bash and Bash at the Beach PPVs into one collection that would be what around 25 PPVs and throw in Beach Blast and Baywatch episodes!

They should do like, year in review DVD sets.

Like, a DVD that's just matches from 1996, with someone explaining the storylines of the day, important bits from RAW and PPV's, basically just sum up the year and make it into a DVD.

I like that idea a lot.

Similarly, I think they should do a best of Raw, by "season" (year). Have maybe 15-20 matches, include the best angles/interview segments, recap the major events at the time, etc.

This would get unbearable with later years when there's so much crap going on every single week, but for the early years it would work really well.

For instance, 1993 can include:

Perfect vs. Flair, Career Match

Shawn vs. Duggan, Lumberjack Match

Kid vs. Razor

Kid vs. Razor

Shawn vs. Marty

Shawn vs. Marty

Marty vs. Doink, 2 out of 3 falls

Crush vs. Yokozuna

Bret vs. Bigelow

Steiner Brothers vs. Quebecers, Province of Quebec Rules

20 Man IC Title Finalist Battle Royale

Razor vs. Martel

Kid vs. Shawn

(There are other matches to add if there's more space.)

Then you throw in some notable segments and recaps (Money Inc. creams Beefcake, Lawler runs down Bret, Gorilla throws out Heenan, etc.) and you've got yourself Raw Season 1.

Also, if you want to talk about ridiculously huge box sets, how about one for each major Title?

I know they have "Best of the WWE Championship" already, but what about a more complete effort?

You could have feature segments on each champion, with the talking heads commenting on their reign. As for the matches, they could include EVERY title switch, and maybe some notable (or rare) Title defenses in between.

The problems with this:

1) It would be terrible in later years. Post-96 or so, there were waaaay too many Title changes to keep up with and the IC and Tag Belts in particular lost all credibility.

2) A Tag Title set would be interesting but it would get really repetitive watching an entire set comprised of only tag team matches (same tired formula in basically every single match).

3) For the WWE Title, most of the switches have been in high profile matches and are already widely available elsewhere.

That aside, I think this would be a solid format for a boxset, for say, the glory years of the Intercontinental Title (1986-1996). Or the WWF Title from the Hulkamania era until the Attitude era (beginning with Hogan vs. Shiek and ending with either the Screwjob or Wrestlemania XIV).

My God yes.

I had a dream when I was 12, in which I was 20 and the WWF released a kiosk similar to a Kodak Picture Maker. This kiosk featured the ability, for 29 dollars, to compile any Raw moments you wanted onto a two-hour VHS tape. This had to be shared...

Has there been a legitimate "Life of Austin" box set, apart from the few "Stone Cold Truth" type things?

We're due a RAW 15th Anniversary Set soon I would bet since next Jan is the 15th anniversary. Hopefully they'll do better with that than they did with the RAW X crap.

Yeah let's give Great Khali the Slammy for being the greatest giant to work for the WWF.
