Guest Anubis Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Just found confirmed what had been rumored about for quite a while: At a press conference earlier today, it was announced that WrestleMania 24 will take place at Orlando's famed Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, marking just the second time in history that sports-entertainment's crown jewel will be held at an outdoor venue. On March 30, 2008, the Citrus Bowl will hold more than 70,000 screaming WWE fans when WrestleMania invades Orlando. Be sure to check back here later today as WWE.com continues to update you on this historic announcement. I find it pretty cool they go big time and open air again. I wonder though what might happen if it rains on March 30, 2008...
The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 That's pretty cool. Kinda funny that the Observer website had a blurb saying "as we've been reporting for months, WWE is going to announce today that it is holding WM24 at the Amway Arena in Orlando." Oops. Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Yeah I thought they were using the indoor Orlando Arena, or whatever name it's going by today. That's cool that they are going to the Citrus Bowl. I love outdoor shows for some unknown reason.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 why does it have huge disaster written all over it? other than potential rain... Half the roster cant even have a decent match in a dry ring..I cant imagine in the middle of a down pour...and what about lightning? The show wouldnt go on if the weather was that severe.. Itd be worse than when they tried to have a match after the Austin beerbaths or Diva waterhose downs..only worse because the wrestlers themselves will be soaking wet too.. Plus, it almost has to be in the day time..I dont think they can do the show from 7-11 outside.
geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Florida on a spring night, rain is very likely. Late afternoon and early evening rainstorms are a common event in America's greatest state.

geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 oka so OTHER than the rain, it would be alright? Other than weather I think it's a cool idea. An outdoor event always gives a show a unique vibe. I always liked the spring break nitros.

The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 They've got a year to work out the logistics, so I'm going to guess that they'll have a plan in place. Probably a big pavilion over the ring similar to what they had at Cesar's Palace for WM9, only a lot bigger. As long as the ring and ringside area are dry, they'll be fine. Trust me, if fans at the Super Bowl can sit through the rain for 4 hours, fans at WM can handle it.

Not that the people all the way at the top of the stadium are going to be able to see anything anyway, but they cant cover the ring area with anything without obstructing views. They'll obvious have their light rigging and everything up (or else no MITB match lol).. They really should hvae just gone to Tropicanna Field. That would probably hold 50,000 and alleviate all the weather problems.

I remember that in the past they looked into Tropicana and realized that the lockerrooms were too far from the ring to make it work. It was a logistics nightmare. Thanks for the Fish 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 If they want to wrestle in an open air facitlity they should at least head somewhere with a retractable roof in case of bad weather. Isn't the new Dallas Cowboy stadium going to have a retractible roof? Why not wait a couple years until that is built.

Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 It'll rain. This has huge disaster written all over it...theres no way they actually go through with this. They have these new fangled things called canopys they can always put up. I think the Romans used them.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 They probably already have a solution in mind for the rain. I doubt that they'd book their biggest show of the year for an outdoor stadium without at least thinking of the rain, particularly because Vince has been terrified about doing outdoor shows for that very reason. The Cowboys new stadium will be open in 2010 and it doesn't mean there won't be a Wrestlemania there. I guess the WWE isn't going to Jersey in honor of Wrestlemania IV. Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Anyone wanna start speculating where the Silver Anniversary Mania is going to be? Unless Garden V: The Mega Garden Explodes is ready and Cablevision has made nice on the rental rates, it's possible it won't be in NY. Honda Center would be nice again for the 3rd time. geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 What if there is a thunderstorm? If there is lightning in the area they won't be able to run the show, or they'll at least have to delay it.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 I hope they come back for Atlantic City for WrestleMania XXV. However, with how they're booking bigger arenas for WrestleMania again, that seems very unlikely now.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 I wouldn't call Orlando "TNA Country", as every WWE show in Orlando ever has had a bigger crowd than a month's worth of Orlando TNA shows.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 To be fair, TNA runs 2-3 shows per month and their building's capacity is much smaller than that of the arenas WWE runs.
