The Sopranos

Recommended Posts

Well when Paulie and Tony were packing to go to the safehouse Tony said he couldn't get through to get an update.

Paulie said that he heard back that he's probably not going to regain consciousness so I'm going under the assumption that he's a goner or at least a vegetable.

Ah, missed I missed that.

It doesn't feel like Tony will die, or even get seriously injured. It seems like the grieving Soprano family card has been played too many times already, and I don't see that as a way to end the series. Not that I think it will be a "happily ever after" type of deal, because AJ is still fucked, Tony and Melfi are still through, Bobby is still dead, Sil is still a vegetable or dead, etc. I'd say the Sopranos come out on top in the war, albeit with a few more losses, but Tony himself will still have those big issues to deal with.

I still think they should have given Sil a better ending. That was weak.

I agree. As one of the main guys, you don't even get to see him die. At least Bobby went out in a bloodbath and Christopher went out in a car crash.

What does everyone think will happen to Paulie?

Paulie survives. I won't go as far to agree with the rumor/prediction that he's in cahoots with Phil but I don't think we'll see Paulie eat it.

I wouldn't have a problem with Paulie somehow being the last thing you see in the final episode, alive and well. After everyone else gets killed maybe he'll somehow take some of their money and end up on an island or on a beach somewhere to live out the rest of his life.

I'm not sure how it'll end, but I think something will happen that totally sets Tony off. It leads to him going on a rampage, and while he does somehow gets revenge, it also ends in his death as well. It's just too bad that the finale is only just under an hour long.

It was kind of sad seeing the disintegration of Tony's crew the last couple episodes; Chris, Bobby, Silvio. I almost want to see one last shootout at the safe house, but I think that's a little too "cowboy" for Chase, he's probably got something much more clever to end the series. Although Phil's crew bursting into the last room with Tony inside and then laying him out, with Tony staring up into the barrels of guns and reflecting back on the entire series with visions of his friends, family, and enemies would be cool. Especially with some dramatic Italian opera going on in the background.

I like the subtle jab they gave at Paulie with the number three comment, Paulie's like a cockroach, he'll always be around.

Yeah, Paulie won't die- I have a feeling he's going to flip to New York and pay the price for doing so. Think, "et tu, brute?"

I think a Godfather type ending has to come into play here, hell just look at the scene a couple weeks back with Tony playing Michael Corleone in that one restaurant. They've been focusing a lot on AJ this season, and there's definitely a big reason why. Maybe he finally asserts himself in this episode, and I'm thinking he either does something drastic to save his family, or even more so, shoot Phil after Phil shoots Tony (if you look at the trailer, AJ is definitely outside against the same sky background that Phil is, so it's not like AJ really goes into hiding with Carm and Meadow, at least I don't think so.

Leotardo is such a great villain. You have to really hate the guy.

Paulie's not flipping to NY. He got played for a fool once by NY already, so it'd be pretty unrealistic for him to ignore that & flip. He realizes Tony is all he has left now that Chris, Sil, Bobby, & his aunt/mom are gone.

Well the episode is 1 hours a 5 minutes. So atleast we get 5 more minutes.

And I have a feeling Paulie will survive this; he got thru the 70's war, he'll get thru this.

That's a good point. So is he going to be willing to sacrifice himself to save Tony? That's what I'm wondering.

I could see a scene where Paulie tells Tony that he doesn't have anything to live for, since the family is dead, and that's all he had since his mom passed away. He tells Tony that he still has his other family to live for, so he should just go to them while he sacrifices himself - Paulie is killed while getting revenge, and Tony gets away with his family.

Absolutely. They've really done a good job of putting most of the blame for the war on him. The whole Vito thing plus the aftermath, refusing Tony's olive branch in after the heart attack, and then starting the war after Tony beat the shit out of a guy who messed with his daughter, which wasn't not an unreasonable thing for Tony to do. And the guy is just a total douchebag.

I know I've said this before, but does anyone else wish that the war started with 3 episodes left? I feel 2 hours doesn't give it enough justice.

A few things, Paulie has been like "fuck New York" for q while now. Every since he found out Johnny Sack was just using him to get info on the Jersey crew. Sacramoni had been telling him that Big Carmine (the boss of NY at the time) wanted Paulie to join the NY faction, but it was all a big lie and Sacramoni was using Paulie like a douche. Paulie found this out a bt a party, when he finally talked to Carmine, and Carmine didn't even know who Paulie was. Every since then he knew that he could only trust Tony, and regain a new sense of loyalty to the Soprano family, since he's been with the family for 2o something years, and was Tony's dad best friend. Tony also wanted to be like Paulie growing up, he sees Paulie as a uncle.

He took the picture thing kind of hard, but he knew Tony was mad about pie o my, and that he thought Paulie was making fun of him. Paulie knew it was nothing against him, he knew Tony was basically a emotional wreck at the time.

The Money thing with Carmella, was basically human nature. Everybody thpoight Tony was gone, and everybody wanted the top spot. Givinig Carm 100, 000 grand seemed kind of dumb, if Tony was going to be dead. The money could've went to running the operation, and Paulie knew Carm would be taken care of if Tony died anyway. Seeing as Tony had millions hid away, Paulie was basically thinking "Why kick up to the Queen, if the King is dead, and she doesn't even know about it". This is basically these guys nature, when it comes to the money. History has it anyway, that Paulie has een skimming off the top for years, Sil and Tony have known for year, but it never made that bif a difference since they knew the guy Paulie was, that's why they taxed him more then the other earners. When Carm told Tony, that Paulie (and Vito) acted kind pissed about giving her the money, he shrugged it off and said "SO". He knew that would happen if he would die, that's why he wasn't offended by it.

If anything, Tony wanted to Kill Paulie ore then Paulie wanted to kill him, and almost this earlier this season on the boat, while they were inFlorida when the feds were looking in to the Billie Overalls murder (Tony's 1st hit, which Paulie coached him on). This trip also made Tony realise that Paulie is probably his most loyal guy, along with Bobby and Sil. He came to the realization Paulie was just lonely, with no family, and that is why he's so annoying. He has nothing to live for.

I don't think it'd make any sense with the storyline, for Paulie to flip and Kill Tony in the next episode, that'd take more then one episode to build in to something so dramatic.

Good analyzation there, Truthiness. Post more. I'd figure Paulie would turn as a swerve, and the reason would be explained afterwards, but it is getting kind of late for all that now.

And I personally wish the war would've started a couple episodes ago, myself. Also, Melfi "firing" Tony NOW? I'll tell you what, I think her role outlived its usefulness a long time ago, with the exception of her role in Tony's recovering from the shooting this season. Aside from that, I've always felt that Tony's character didn't need much more fleshing out.

And is it just me, or has Melfi gotten REALLY old and ugly in the past season or two? Yikes. Carm used to be much more attractive as well.

Melfi has gotten very old the past couple of seasons, which has spanned what 5 years?

They had to wait for the firing because her relationship with Tony was such an integral part of the series. And I would say this is probably the biggest crossroads in Tony's life. I like where it was placed because it was another member of Tony's "crew" leaving him.

Not sure if Paulie will flip or not. If he does in the "et tu, Brute" moment I would not be opposed since Tony had a chance to kill him earlier and he was mad at himself for not filtering out the weaknesses sooner (Christopher).

Any possibility Patsy could be working for New York? Coco knew where Meadow was at and Patsy ran like hell, even after the guys who were hitting Sil had already drove away.

Coco knew where Meadow was at

That wasn't set up. Coco just happened to be at the same restaurant as her. If you remember, the guy he was with (Butchie?) was trying to get Coco to just leave without messing w/ Meadow.

Thanks Vitamin X, my grammar is bad thats why I don't post much.

I don't see how people think Melfi could've left years ago an "the show wouldn't have missed her". A lot of Tony's actions has been inadvertedly guided by Melfi. She was unknowingly the person helping Tony run his operations, when he had problems with his business, Melfi was the one who usually put ideas in his head, and he would act on them in at times very violent way. She finally figured out she was doing mor harm then good with Tony, and decidd to end the relationship. She went about it in the wrong way, like most psychologist, when they figure out they can't solve the problem, they start becoming legit drug pushers, just like Melfi did with Tony. I think Melfi/Tony relationship, was Chase's way of saying "Talk Therapy" is basically a bullshit field, that rarely works in the end result.

Rewatching 'The Blue Comet' right now. Didn't realize Paulie passed off the job onto Patsy in a CYA type way. Good ol' Paulie. That would be the reason Patsy was running, he thought they were coming after him due to the botched hit.

Can't wait until Sunday.

Good analyzation

Uhh, do you mean analysis?

I'm avoiding most of this talk here. I don't want to ruin what this show has been and what the finale can be with a bunch of craziness. They've done a great job of carrying this show, and while I don't agree with everything they've done (particularly in the last few episodes), fantasy booking will only cheapen it, since most people keep focusing on the war/violence aspect and completely ignore all the character arcs that have been going on. Of course it's important, but I don't want them to sacrifice the integrity of the storyline for it.

My friend has a theory that Janice is going to kill Phil and his family.

I just started laughing because that would be horrible.

Janice killing Tony was a popular theory early this year. I do think a Soprano will finally kill Phil but not Tony nor Janice. AJ.

I have to think AJ will finally man up and do something for his family. If he does, he won't do it in that macho way. Most likely the clumsy AJ way. Like with Junior but with successs.

I can't remember the last TV show finale that had so many "theories" surrounding it. Maybe Seinfeld.
