Imus Remarks

Recommended Posts

We're told we have the freedom of speech, but in all reality, that is a fallacy.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Congress.

Once again, all the first amendment ensures is that the guys and gals on Capitol Hill can't pass a law saying that anyone that simply assembles to protest the Iraq war and any reporters that go cover such event in front of the Official Catholic Church of the United States of America are to be arrested and sent to Guantanamo Bay.

Really, why is this shit so hard to understand?

To be fair, intensifier hasn't proven to be too bright.

Why aren't you a teacher or something since you know SO much about so many different things.

Why hasn't this question been answered yet?

Well, one reason would be that I'm not really sure how he merrily pranced from Point A to Point B in his little challenge. Why would knowing shit about a bunch of things make me a qualified instructor in one specific discipline? Who says I'd even want to work with students? I'm a big autodidacticism advocate. I've backed up C-Bacon on educational matters before. C-Bacon.

Yup, that's all I got. Well besides agreeing with most of what Ripper has to say here, especially his points about how it seems a black PERSON becomes responsible for all black PEOPLE, of course a lot of that I would blame too on a sensationalistic media trying to perpetuate stereotypes.

All I can really say is that for it being the year 2007, this whole situation is being blown way way way outta proportion. These broads are being paraded around like some sort of atrosity has been commited on them and people are calling for Don Imus' head on 4 different channels, I mean what the fuck is this? People need to get with the motherfucking times and remove the head from the anus. We very well may have a black president next year!!! Christ keep on goin' with "THE STRUGGLE!!!". These kids need to realize that they are not their parents or grandparents that actually DID SOMETHING for the rights of blacks in this country. Just go back to B ball practice and shut the fuck up already. This is why Europe laughs at us ya' know.

That's the man that I remember.

I'll just say that continental Europe has way more racial issues than this country and leave it at that.

I dunno what happened that I--the guy who caught shit for expressing exhaustion with the "Ozzie Guillen ramped-up angry spic act"--developed any sensitivity, but WHOOOOOOOOOOOAA, dude.

This is why Europe laughs at us ya' know.

And we can laugh at Europe for their litany of foreign/colonial/domestic policy boners that allowed Muslims to overrun the countries and revitalize Europe's long and proud tradition of anti-Semitism.

Here's an article I think everyone should read on this.........

Imus isn’t the real bad guy

Instead of wasting time on irrelevant shock jock, black leaders need to be fighting a growing gangster culture.

Thank you, Don Imus. You’ve given us (black people) an excuse to avoid our real problem.

You’ve given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson another opportunity to pretend that the old fight, which is now the safe and lucrative fight, is still the most important fight in our push for true economic and social equality.

You’ve given Vivian Stringer and Rutgers the chance to hold a nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference to respond to your poor attempt at humor.

Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred.

The bigots win again.

While we’re fixated on a bad joke cracked by an irrelevant, bad shock jock, I’m sure at least one of the marvelous young women on the Rutgers basketball team is somewhere snapping her fingers to the beat of 50 Cent’s or Snoop Dogg’s or Young Jeezy’s latest ode glorifying nappy-headed pimps and hos.

I ain’t saying Jesse, Al and Vivian are gold-diggas, but they don’t have the heart to mount a legitimate campaign against the real black-folk killas.

It is us. At this time, we are our own worst enemies. We have allowed our youths to buy into a culture (hip hop) that has been perverted, corrupted and overtaken by prison culture. The music, attitude and behavior expressed in this culture is anti-black, anti-education, demeaning, self-destructive, pro-drug dealing and violent.

Rather than confront this heinous enemy from within, we sit back and wait for someone like Imus to have a slip of the tongue and make the mistake of repeating the things we say about ourselves.

It’s embarrassing. Dave Chappelle was offered $50 million to make racially insensitive jokes about black and white people on TV. He was hailed as a genius. Black comedians routinely crack jokes about white and black people, and we all laugh out loud.

I’m no Don Imus apologist. He and his tiny companion Mike Lupica blasted me after I fell out with ESPN. Imus is a hack.

But, in my view, he didn’t do anything outside the norm for shock jocks and comedians. He also offered an apology. That should’ve been the end of this whole affair. Instead, it’s only the beginning. It’s an opportunity for Stringer, Jackson and Sharpton to step on victim platforms and elevate themselves and their agenda$.

I watched the Rutgers news conference and was ashamed.

Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for eight minutes in 1963 at the March on Washington. At the time, black people could be lynched and denied fundamental rights with little thought. With the comments of a talk-show host most of her players had never heard of before last week serving as her excuse, Vivian Stringer rambled on for 30 minutes about the amazing season her team had.

Somehow, we’re supposed to believe that the comments of a man with virtually no connection to the sports world ruined Rutgers’ wonderful season. Had a broadcaster with credibility and a platform in the sports world uttered the words Imus did, I could understand a level of outrage.

But an hourlong press conference over a man who has already apologized, already been suspended and is already insignificant is just plain intellectually dishonest. This is opportunism. This is a distraction.

In the grand scheme, Don Imus is no threat to us in general and no threat to black women in particular. If his words are so powerful and so destructive and must be rebuked so forcefully, then what should we do about the idiot rappers on BET, MTV and every black-owned radio station in the country who use words much more powerful and much more destructive?

I don’t listen or watch Imus’ show regularly. Has he at any point glorified selling crack cocaine to black women? Has he celebrated black men shooting each other randomly? Has he suggested in any way that it’s cool to be a baby-daddy rather than a husband and a parent? Does he tell his listeners that they’re suckers for pursuing education and that they’re selling out their race if they do?

When Imus does any of that, call me and I’ll get upset. Until then, he is what he is — a washed-up shock jock who is very easy to ignore when you’re not looking to be made a victim.

No. We all know where the real battleground is. We know that the gangsta rappers and their followers in the athletic world have far bigger platforms to negatively define us than some old white man with a bad radio show. There’s no money and lots of danger in that battle, so Jesse and Al are going to sit it out.

I'll agree it's an overreaction. Shit, Rush Limbaugh once told a caller to 'take the bone out of his nose.' Bill O'Reilly's hateful comments towards the guy who lost his father in 9/11 wer infinitely worse than this.

However Imus said what he said, and trying to deflect the argument by ranking on Sharpton, Jackson, and rappers doesn't change the fact that his bosses have every right to fire him, if they feel it would benefit their company. His entire job is to speak publicly, and he goofed. If he's fired, he'll be picked up elsewhere.

That's a good column.

I think the best argument I've heard about the whole thing is that the women, who should have been role models for their impressive accomplishments and goals, have wasted the potential by turning themselves into victims. Imus is a fucking idiot, but letting the entire team turn into victims is equally as stupid.

I didn't think much of it until I saw images from the press conference where they're all looking somber and/or about to cry... good god, if this is how you react every time someone throws a fifth-grade insult at you, you're in for a long life

I still fail to see how he is irrelevant when he regularly has some of the most powerful people in the country on his show (like McCain & Lieberman). Hell, one presidential candidate even announced his run on the Imus show.

And why can't "black leaders" do two things?

*white person uses a racial slur*

Mecca: DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT, THERE'S A GANGSTA CULTURE!

Jason Whitlock can suck dick.

You can just as easily find non negative hip hop as you can find negative hip hop. Just as you can find action movies instead of family movies. Once again, his retarded argument is that "Hey, we shouldn't care if a person makes a racist comments because other people make racist comments."

Really. Could you see lawyer saying, "Well, your honor, its not like my client is the only person to fuck a 8 year old..." and it working?

I get tired of well off black people (think Bill Cosby and his dumb ass rant) pretending to still have a complete understanding of the generations after them.

What the hell was the Rutger coach supposed to do? Say nothing. Her players, through NO fault of their own have been thrust into a big headline catching story. Of course she should take the time to defend the players that parents have trusted her to take care of. But no. She should have talked about 50 Cent apparently.

Most of what you said there is true, but this:

You can just as easily find non negative hip hop as you can find negative hip hop.
Is not true.

Except it is.

Its very easy. There is no shortage of artist in the hip hop genre not doing that type of music.

of course, if you are going to use Viacom owned companies as what hip hop has to offer, you will disagree.

If you only listen to pop-rap (radio, Mtv) than the negative rap is about all you can here.

But the majority of hiphop doesnt get that kind of exposure and, if you simply choose to listen to it instead, you wont hear much 'negative' stuff at all.
