NBA Playoffs 2007: Round 1

Recommended Posts

Oh basketball gods, why do you hate me so.

You? What about me? What about Citrus?

I'm pulling for Detroit to win this, and get one for Webber... and Dallas making it to the Finals is the best chance that Detroit has to win.

Dirk's been playing undeniably terrible. I've never seen him this bad for an entire series, even when the Mavs were getting crushed by San Antonio 6 or 7 years ago. He's just not looking for his own shot ever. He stands in the corner most of the time and the only time he shoots is when the shot clock's running down, when he gets a rebound or to take that stupid little 20-footer from just inside the three-point line.

He needs to drive to the basket, post up, or even jack up threes, but he can't be a non-factor in the offense if the Mavericks are going to win the series. Devin Harris and Josh Howard slashing to the basket every play just isn't a good enough offense to beat anyone.

Just for the record, did anyone else besides me pick Golden state?

Ripper - hopes one correct prediction makes people forget the 200 wrong ones.

I mentioned in one of the NBA topics that either Dallas was going to stroll through this series, or it was gonna be one of the worst moments of their existence. I didn't go as far as to predict a Golden State win though.

I apparently nailed it.

Harris and Diop have been playing pretty well this series but they can't stay out of foul trouble.

Hard to do when they might not even get past the next round.

We'll see. Chicago has a lot going for them- they've beaten Detroit 3 out of 4 in the season and had a tougher warm-up sweep series in the first round. I can't envision how Detroit would be ready for the drastic increase in competitiveness from Orlando to Chicago. Chicago on the other hand, experienced a tough draw in Miami, which I think will help them in understanding what to do to down Detroit, and then NJ/Toronto/Cleveland in the conference finals. I don't see them being eliminated until the conference finals or NBA finals.

Chicago won playing 5 on 8. I'd take Chicago in that series, definitely. It's weird to think the premier matchup of the Eastern Conference will happen in the second round.

Me, I'm pulling for Warriors-Suns as a WCF. That will be fun as hell to watch, and I'd be okay with either one winning a championship (the Warriors for being the plucky underdogs and that no one would've given them a chance to even be that far as recently as two weeks ago, and the Suns because they deserve it by now)

EDIT: And the Baron Davis shot today has to qualify as one of the plays of the year.. but it's not like he hasn't been doing this for a while..:

Well, he blamed a couple of losses on the refs, so I guess that is a start.

IGN simmed the NBA playoffs in NBA 2k8 and the Warriors go to the finals against Detroit and lose.

You know what I would love to see. A New Jersey/Phoenix finals. Just because of how kickass that one game was this year.

*remembers the pain*

Fuck Chicago right in the eye. Fucking John Fucking Paxton. And fucking Danny fucking Ainge leaving fucking John fucking Paxson open. And fucking Colangelo making the fucking trade and getting rid of Hornecek instead of Tom Chambers. Jeff wouldn't have left Paxson open to double Horace fucking Grant.

And fuck Lushus for making me remember the pain.

was Chambers even starting at that point or was he on the downward spiral? I can't remember.

oh and don't forget Rip, those same Bulls won 4 straight on my Knicks, who had the best record in the East that year, after they were up 2-0...so I share in your pain!

Chambers still had ALOT of trade value. I think he averaged like 16 or 17 per game the year before. But since they were trading for Barkley, his usefulness was gone, and he would have to move to the bench. And Chambers was not a effective bench player. So instead of dealing the guy one year removed from All-star and MVP votes, Colangelo was like "Fuck that...lets keep him". That hurt. Trading Horneck and signing Danny Ainge as a free agent...that hurt too. Trading a 20 point per game scoring 2 guard when you had Chambers to deal and Philly would have taken him. Ugh.

And I still say the Suns would have won that championship had Cedric Ceballos not gotten injured in the Seattle series. But that was 14 years ago. I think it is finally time to kinda let that one go. Kinda.

you think I've let the 94 finals go? Hell no! Fuck Starks for shooting a million times in game 7 and only hitting 3 shots...fuck Pat Riley for not changing up the game plan and getting scoring from other avenues, knowing that Starks was ice cold...fuck that "vaunted" defense for letting Robert Horry and Sam Cassell shit all over them!

That was part of my greatest basketball prediction in history. I told everyone that when the Knicks went up (i can't remember if it was 3-1 or 3-2) that the Rockets would win it in 7 and John Starks would shoot the Knicks out of the game. You can't get more accurate than that. The funniest thing about that game was that John Starks finally gets pulled and Derek harper calmly hits a three and looks over to the Knicks bench as if to say (You know, some more of us can shoot the fucking thing too).

Yes, that series has been pushed out of our memory and we don't want to relive any of it. Thank you.

I enjoyed it as much as a Suns fan could. I am not in the crowd that calls their championships weak because Jordon wasn't around. I don't think the Bulls could have taken them if they had made the finals that year with Jordon.

But since they beat the Suns both years of their championship runs, fuck them right in the ear.

And here we have the quote of the playoffs:

"I will bite a throat for my teammates." - Andrei Kirilenko

So much anger! Being a Pacer fan, I would have been happy just to have not been cheated out of game 7 by the refs, and just be in that Finals.

There's no way in hell the Houston Rockets could have ever beaten the Bulls with Jordan in either 1994 or 95 (as in the Bulls with Jordan for all of 1995). Jordan would score 60 a night if he had to, no way they are losing to the Rockets.

I'm still bitter about that whole era, since I figured with Jordan "retired" Phoenix would have a clear path to the title (I was quite the Suns fan). Then the Suns just could not beat the Rockets, even after getting up 2-0 and then 3-1 in both of those series. It drove me nuts because I still think Phoenix was the better team, especially in 1995.

After that season the Suns traded my favorite player, Dan Majerle, to the Cavs for John "Hot Rod" Williams in a move that looked completely idiotic even at the time. I think that move basically killed the Suns as any sort of contenders pretty much until Nash signed with Phoenix about a decade later. That Majerle for Williams trade has to be one of the worst trades in the history of the NBA. Phoenix went from a 59-23 win team in 1995 to 41-41 the next year, it pissed off all their fans, and it pissed off Barkley royally and Sir Charles demanded a trade to Houston soon after.
