Dark Match:

-Eddie Colon, the younger brother of Carlito and son of Carlos Colon, defeated Shannon Moore in a good competitive match after a flying bodypress.

Smackdown:

-Smackdown opens with a promo on The Undertaker defending the WWE World championship against Batista in a Steel Cage match.

-WWE United States champion Chris Benoit & Matt Hardy defeated MVP & Finlay in a solid 15 minute bout after Benoit pinned MVP. The heels worked on Hardy's knee for a good portion of the bout and he limped all the way to the back.

-Another Steel Cage Match promo.

-Michelle McCool defeated Jillian Hall with a spinning neckbreaker. Hall "sang a song" before the match started.

-Backstage, Teddy Long told Kristal Marshall to have Vickie Guerrero come to Smackdown next week. Guerrero's name was booed. A new "country looking team" (Freakin' Deacon - aka Fake Kane from Raw- and "Cousin Ray" - Terry Gordy's son Raw, both of whom most recently worked in Deep South Wrestling) appeared in the vignette and will be wrestling next week.

-They showed highlights of Edge capturing the Money in the Bank from Ken Kennedy on Raw.

-Michael Cole and JBL interviewed Ashley Massaro, who said she can't wait to get back in the ring to take care of Jillian Hall.

-Paul London, with Brian Kendrick defeated WWE Tag Team champion Domino, with Deuce and Cherry. London hit a dropsault on Deuce, knocking him off the apron, and landing on Domino following the flip for the pin.

-Another Steel Cage match promo.

-Kane (with Boogeyman and Little Boogey) defeated Dave Taylor (with William Regal) after a clothesline. Boogey clotheslined Regal right before the finish.

-Another Undertaker vs. Batista video promo.

-They announce Ozzy Osbourne will be performing live on Smackdown next week.

-Jimmy Wang Yang defeated WWE Cruiserweight champion Chavo Guerrero in a Non-Title match after reversing a top rope powerbomb attempt. Said to be a good but short match.

*Another Undertaker vs. Batista package.

*Snitsky promo, which may have been just for the live Arena.

-The Undertaker vs. Batista for the WWE World championship inside a Steel Cage. They announced the match can be won by pinfall, submission or escape. Undertaker got a huge pop while Batista received a mixed reaction. Undertaker's arm is heavily braced and protected. Batista's right knee and quad is also taped up. The first five minutes saw some near falls. The crowd completely turned on Batista as he took control. Batista tried to escape but taker crotched him on the top rope. Taker took control for a moment, then both men hit each other with a clothesline and went down. Batista regained control of the match. Batista nearly scored a pinfall but Taker kicked up and regained control. He nailed a running clothesline in the corner then hit a big boot and a chokeslam for another near fall. Undertaker went for the Last Ride powerbomb but Barista countered and slammed Taker into the cage, busting him open. Batista nailed a spinebuster for a near fall. He tried to climb out of the cage but Undertaker caught him and nailed the Last Ride. Undertaker then tried to escape the cage. Batista began climbing out from another section of the cage, so both were trying to escape simultaneously. Both men hit the floor at the same time and it was announced as draw. Mark Henry came to ringside and attacked Taker.

-Edge came out and cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot and began beating Taker, getting several near falls. Undertaker sat up, but was speared in the sitting position by Edge, who scored the pin. Edge is the new WWE World champion. The place went absolutely insane for the title change. After the match, Edge laid out Undertaker with the suitcase. Crowd then turned on Edge. Eight Druids came to the ring and carried the unconscious Undertaker from the ring.

Ozzy and Boogeyman seems like a natural skit in the making. I like the idea of a long tag match with Benoit/Matt and Finlay/MVP. Guess the plans with Vickie are back on? Another country tag team and Gibson is still on the sidelines doing nothing?

The main event segment looks all kinds of good.

It honestly sounds like a good Smackdown. I'm down for the Ozzy performance, I am liking his new song.

The Ozzy stuff sounds like something straight out of WCW circa 1999, although I'd rather see Ozzy even in his current state than most of the people that performed on Nitro.

This sounds like a tremendous show though. I'm worried about the Vicki aspect but as long as she just ends up being Long's assistant and stays out of the way it would be okay.

Man, Edge is going to have so many people pissed at him in about 6 months. The guy he ripped off for the MITB will be coming back (Kennedy), as well as the guy he screwed out of the title (UT). No offense to Kennedy, but he's likely to end up the odd man out in this scenario since UT vs. Edge has been a match people have wanted for the past 2 years. Not to mention Batista will be pissed at him now.

Remember when Ozzy was a popular mainstream name just a few years back? Man, he fell hard again. He can't even get a spot on ECW, where it would seem he'd be a better fit. In fact, Thorne needs to get all fan-boy on Ozzy meeting him backstage.

wwe.com is pimping Edge's win all over the frontpage. This could be a big week for Smackdown, doesn't Kurt Angle's title win last year hold the highest rating for Smackdown?

I attended the SD/ECW tapings this evening and the SD portion was nothing short of incredible.

Everything from start to finish was so solid. Even the women's match was a really good little match.

Eddie Colon looked really good out there. He has a good handle on the basics (although he did a little flip thing for no reason which elicited boo's from the crowd) and was very fluid. And thank goodness Shannon Moore no longer looks like a goof.

Matt Hardy got a great reaction, and Finlay actually came out to a face pop, IMO.

All of the matches were just plain good TV matches. Nothing dragged or was boring and for once the crowd was really into everything thoughout the (SD part of the) evening (Pitt is notorious for being less than enthusastic for some reason). The show also was paced really well. The spaces for commercials seemed like they weren't actual commercial length; in the past, I seem to remember them lasting as long as they normally would had the show been live.

The main event in and of itself was tremendous. I also was at the No Way Out PPV when JBL defended against Big Show in the 'barbed wire steel cage" ('05), but this was punchy-kicky in a good way. Both guys worked their butts off, but one thing I noted was that although it might come across better on TV, the "scriptedness" of the ending was telegraphed as soon as both guys made their way down the cage.

One thing I noted that I got a big kick out of was that the refs spent some time after the match at the announce table reviewing the ending via the monitors. It just added a nice little touch to the whole thing.

When Mark Henry came out, I feared that we'd see a repeat of Batista last year; i.e., Taker would have to vacate the title b/c of injury. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the arena was abuzz with exactly what might happen with the title/Kennedy/Taker/etc. Although what played out might seem obvious in hindsight, one could easily imagine other scenarios such as Taker retaining the title and then vacating it, or Batista winning it and losing to Edge, or winning it and actually defeating Edge.

There was GREAT heat for Henry's return (earlier my group noted that a vignette hadn't aired all night for him), and it went on just long enough that you thought that it was how the show would end (and that Taker would have to vacate). So Mellon Arena went absolutely NUTS when Edge's music hit. People were even chanting for Edge after the cage match ended. The whole scenario played out beautifully. Edge got a GREAT reaction when he won, and then re-asserted his heeldom by bashing Taker with the briefcase after the fact. I seriously have not felt that much energy in such a small amount of time at a live event.

And the image of the Druids taking Taker back was just such a cool visual live.

(Oh yeah, ECW was kinda boring.)

Wow, they did it right regarding Edge - I'm shocked.

It's amazing or just downright ironic at least that some of the best moves from this company has come from injurys, etc. Case in point, Michaels bailing from Mania 13 to set up Austin/Hart.

I hate spoilers. I just went into this thread to see exactly what happened in the title match after I found out Edge won. My point is, can anyone post non-spoiler match listings, whether it be here or in another thread?

Huh? That honestly doesn't make any sense to me. Why does it matter if he's on ECW or Smackdown? Though one thing I gotta ask is, you have a one hour show and a two hour show, Ozzy's going to perform for 4 to 5 minutes, why would you want to put that on a one hour show?

So Kennedy was indeed slated to win the title tonight. What horrible timing for him to get injured.

Or WWE panicked and Edge taking the money in the bank case off Kennedy then going to beat Taker for it was the first thing popped in their mind.

If they were going to go this route it wouldve been nice to have a fresh guy up top since Taker was so protected with the win anyway . I like Edge but he was already a top guy so it wasnt as shocking as the 1st time he did it, and Smackdown needs more fresh heels and I see him showing up more on Raw even with the title win.

Matt Hardy beat Kennedy clean last week, but he couldnt've gotten injured between then and Raw, so did he get injured before last week's Raw?

Seems like good planning as they can rekindle the Hardy Edge feud and see how many times is it humanly possible can Edge beat Matt in the next 9 months straight.

But the Dave vs Henry feud is not something I want to see again ever. They should just try to legit injure each other before they do it to themselves.

Yay for Edge as Champion, but...

Both men hit the floor at the same time and it was announced as draw.

Gee, that's original. How many times have they done this ending now? It's bad enough they have to keep repeating the battle royal/Royal Rumble 'both men's feet hit the floor' ending every few years, the odds of there being a draw in that or a Cage Match should be millions to one.

No offense to Kennedy but him getting hurt is the best thing that could have happened to Smackdown. Now SD has arguably the overall top guy in the company and a couple ready made feuds for when Undertaker and Kennedy return. Should be a good summer for SD.

Raw used to have the live rock acts since it was the staple show and ECW in theory suits Ozzy more (moreso the network itself) rather then the admitted 3rd brand on a taped friday night slot. I just felt it was odd they put Ozzy on Smackdown rather then Raw or ECW. Not that Ozzy would spike the ratings much but I would think Ozzy appeals to the Sci-Fi crowd a little more then the friday night CW crowd.

I would complain, too, as I wanted to avoid spoilers for Smackdown this week...EXCEPT frickin' Tazz said Edge won the title while I was watching ECW this week. Even said that there was reaction by the Undertaker to it on wwe.com,, which told us Batista didn't win the title. That really sucked.

I couldn't wait to chance my sig after reading this. This already looks like the best SmackDown of the year. great matches and NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION EDGE!. ever sence Edge was drafted to Raw back in 2004, I've always hoped he would some day wind back on SmackDown, and its finally happen. The Main event scene on SmackDown has just gotten better than ever. I can't WAIT till friday!

I wish I could have been there live. I was at NYR when Edge cashed in MITB and beat Cena and the place went nuts. We were also all over Cena that night, though.

This being SD they'll probably edit all of Edge's cheers.

I hope since the brand split is just about over in practice, Edge would still be a Raw guy who just appears on SD too. Like Lashley is an ECW guy appearing on Raw.

Well, his profile has been moved over to the SmackDown page. hes a SmackDown guy now.

I love how much attention this is getting on WWE.com.

I mean, I think that's the most slides I've seen on the homepage...like ever. (there's gotta be like 9 different stories or so) Guess we'll have to see if this does in fact give them a ratings boost.

Something that just came to mind. 4 of the infamous SmackDown Six from late 2002 are all on SmackDown. Benoit, Edge, Mysterio and Chavo. sweet!
